I'd say this is Quik's signature song. He pulled out all the stops for this one. He used Richard Pryor's voice, background vocals, DJ scratching, and said "Quik is in the muthafuc*in house" like he did in 1991. So Fly!
I'm so so so happy dj quik dropped this tight ass album possibly his best one ti date and u have all his albums. So proud of my guy. I always told ppl he was one of the best. Hes so creative and is a tru player and a mack.
I feel DJ Quick needs more recognition. He has the do-pest beats and songs but seems to get underrated as a producer because Dr. Dre and him both being from Compton. People focus more on Dre than Quick. Bump Quick beats all day!!
Yeah I hate that too like people think dre is the only producer from the west coast which is annoys me like give quik his credit too there's quik, daz, battlecat, madlib, and scoop deville like come on
I about lost my mind when I saw him perform this on Skee Live; and it ended with a dope (Classic Quik sounding) guitar solo. I was a little disappointed when I didn't hear that on the studio version. That woman's ad lib's over crowded the song for me. It would have had more of an impact if it was part of the Intro.
your so right about the vocals crowding it, very messy and amateur sounding too (I'm pretty sure he's a man though). Compare this song to Suga Free's 'Why you Bullshittin' and 'El's Interlude' and you'll hear how far DJ Quik has fallen off. This sounds like a bad mix of the two.
I had the exact same thought, when I heard it on skee live I was looking forward to blasting this because the beat was so good. But the vocals ruined it big time
Parrandero EA Yeah, I found that out after the fact. Read an interview where Quik explains that song. I like it a little bit now that I know it's James Debarge.
I have to agree that the Skee Live version was way better, I too was a little disappointed to hear the album version. The singing is distracting from the incredible beat and Quik's killer verses. Please release another version of the song without Debarge!
Joe Goliath Everyone's old shit is better but he's still at a high level. This album has to grow on you and you'll realize how dope it is bcuz it was ahead of its time just like Book of David album
Unfortunately we are sooo overwhelmed by the ratchet shit that good music is difficult to distinguish good from not good but yet very popular bull shit.. compare this to anything say big sean has done and u will that musically there is no comparison...quik is good music!!!!
