I disagree bud. If you watch her very closely her facial expressions match the change and flutter of her voice. The flicker of her eyes, twitch of her brows and head movement and facial expressions, no one else can be singing this but her.

Well done you, just because someone is a loyal AJ fan doesn’t give them or anyone else to be critical of you and your thoughtfully crafted carefully worded remarks in your reaction. I’ve been an AJ fan for about 2 years have lost track of the reactors I’ve subscribed and unsubscribed to having just binge watched your reactions to AJ today, you’re on a handful of reactors I’ll regularly follow. Guessing your from Norway, I couldn’t agree more, she and the music she makes so generously is a gift to the world, but sadly it’s only those who want to hear it.

It'd be impossible! That's the thing I think some people are missing. I mention the flaw because it shows her talent. Most pop songs are intentionally recorded with multiple takes over several vocal tracks in order to layer the song. Then during live performances, you still hear the vocal track playing. The fact that she is still seamlessly completing the song with only that minor blemish really emphasizes her ability to jump and change her pitch on a dime. It's fantastic.

@@AlphaTylerContent Looks like the only multiple-take (i.e., pieced together) cover you've heard from her so far is "I Put a Spell on You". ("Song for A" doesn't count.) There are others coming - not only "music videos" like that one, but "at home singing over a backing track" covers like this one (but I agree that this one appears to be a single take). They are in the minority among her covers, but there are two of them (at least) on her CoverChannel, and some others elsewhere. I'm somewhat ambivalent about them (in particular, the two I'm talking about from her CoverChannel, "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" and "I Have Nothing"): I do prefer her single-take affairs, flawed though they may be, but there's something very satisfying about realizing that a 13-year-old child has produced a track "by herself at home" that at least rivals the original commercial release. [Note: I don't actually know that she produces her multiple-take covers by herself; and I don't know whether they were recorded in her home. Actually, they look like they were recorded in a different place than all her other covers.] "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" is especially interesting, because Angelina used the _exact_ same Mark Ronson instrumental track that Miley Cyrus sang over. (And only 14 weeks after Miley's original was released!) Since both versions use the same music, you can sync them up perfectly and listen to them at the same time. What I hear when I do that (spoiler alert…) is Angelina trying to be _absolutely faithful_ to the original, not changing the basic "vocal arrangement" at all, but still singing it in her own way - and doing it *better* than Miley. (As I like to put it, Miley sang it in a more "cold hearted" way, compared to the more "broken hearted" way Angelina sang it.)

All valid points! Definitely seems deliberate. My assumption is that it is necessary in order to turn a multi-track pop song into a one take recording. I would guess that since there would be a necessary shift, AJ decided to set a pattern in the offset as a sort of order. It's a flaw in the timing, but not truly a flaw in the sense we may immediately associate the word. Imperfections often show the true beauty of art, and AJ's seeming imperfection here really illustrates what a fantastic job she has done in covering the song.

Kevin Barron I understand what you mean, but have to disagree that Angelina Jordan sometimes «struggles with timing». To my ear, her timing has been excellent even as a young child. However, she does like to sing behind the beat like most jazz vocalist do. It is a choice of style, not a mistake.

@@Bustefaen I wondered why he said that b/c it seemed obvious to me that, for Angelina, it was a choice. Many of her best performances, like "I Have Nothing", have that "feature" (not a bug). Maybe I'm giving her more credit than she deserves but, I always assume she knows what she's doing, and if I don't understand it, that just means I should listen to it again. It's why some of the voice coaches who are reacting to her for the first time, sound so foolish to those of us who have more familiarity with her capabilities and her musical knowledge/intuition. I KNOW I'm the problem. New (to Angelina) voice coaches ASSUME Angelina is the problem.

You can actually see her lips through the screen if you look closely, but they're not at all clear because of artifacts from the video compression. In fact, at certain points her mouth seems to me to be delayed slightly compared to the rest of her face (as she moves her head around) - which is nonsense, of course, and must be due to compression side-effects (or I'm just imagining things).

I think AJ heard this criticism and in future videos sings at a different angle so a viewer can better see her mouth while she sings.

Yeah I know ;) I was just making a comparison between AJ's voice and Gaga's in general. Not in reference to this song specifically.

Completely agree that it's intentional. As I said, it's not a slight. The original song here was recorded with multiple vocal tracks I'm sure, so AJ performing in one take is impressive in itself. The timing really highlights how impressive it is, which is the reason I mentioned it.

Thanks for response. You touched on the fact that she records all her cover songs in one take. Do you know how rare that is? Some of the folks in the industry today are spending weeks recording one song. I’ve been in the studio, I’ve seen what they’ve done, and it’s like on take 80 the Singer finally gets what they’re trying to go for. That’s a big part what’s so impressive about this little gift from the universe, Angelina, is that she is spot on taking just one take to record or maybe a couple from what I understand. Anyway, thanks for the response again. Did you take a sneak listen to Nico Cartozzo‘s song he wrote for Angelina? Do you like 26 seconds or so of that and see what style she’s using. It blew my mind! A-Town Hoops glad you mentioned Song for A. My opinion that he could have sent to 50 artists and 49 would have said what the hell am I supposed to do with this.

Absolutely! More of my experience is that vocalists will do about 30 takes and then snip through all of them to find the best version of each line. She's definitely a refreshing change of pace. I haven't checked it out yet. I'm holding off because it seems like an interesting concept and I really want to do a reaction on it. I never listen to previews of reaction tracks, so I haven't opened it. I'll definitely hit it up soon though!

I do know who Lana Del Rey is. I didn't say Lana sounds like Gaga. I said AJ has strong similarities. Rewind the tape friend.

I’d suggest listening again. I spoke pretty clearly when I said AJ singing pop is reminiscent of Gaga. I am aware this isn’t a Gaga song.
