I couldn’t agree more. I’ve only ever used turntables at a wedding and I can honestly say every single wedding I’ve done I’ve had at least 1 person come up and complement me on the fact I’m running turntables and then there’s also always the question of how the computer ties into everything so for me it’s usually a conversation starter as well. I’ve considered getting a controller many times but I’m way to comfortable with my 62 and a 1200’s. I will admit I usually only bring one deck and run the other on internal mode just for ease of use and to stop my chance of a song skipping.

I saw a video on youtube with a one ttb and a mixer in a case, and I though of doing that as well, perhaps I should try it who knows I might get the same reaction as you lol. Good idea dj Lostax!!!

Me too... never even owned a CD player. Turntables were what I learned on in clubs now I play weddings on them with a 62.

i own one. I have the pro x xs-tmc1012wbl it hold one turntable and my mixer. I still bring my other turntable in its own case as a back up. its perfect because instead of hauling 3 cases around i have the big one on wheels with my mixer and turntable and then one turntable in the other case that i can carry. in and out of a club in one trip.

Although I still enjoying vinyl at home, my back says no way dragging that out to a mobile gig anymore.

I love my ttb so I dont care what other ppl say, cos when I show up at gig, ppl still surprise that I use ttb. No sync here lol. I used them for every gig is what am more comfortable, I used to use cd made life easier but when serato came in, I took my time to research and tried it love it ever since. So went back to my ttb with serato and couldn't complain cos i love djing with ttb.

I think people need to just do their own thing. I use a controller because it's easier for me. I've seen DJ's still using passive speakers, if that's what works best for them awesome. Great video Brian, I think turntables are kewl, but I won't be buying or using them.

the saturation of controllers and the fact that every kid that wants to be a DJ can easily get one, has brought turntables back for many djs. I personally wish i never got rid of mines, but yes I agree with Brian they are absolutely a nice trend and can probably in the eyes of some clients set you apart from the rest.

IMHO the matter is a mix of needs-market-money.. Last year I'd back djing it was a longtime, I started in 80's with vinyl but last year I've bought a Pioneer XDJ-RX2, gorgeous, is very useful, ready-to-action..but, just after initial happiness now I feel I've to touch something of vinyl, so I'm looking for something able to give me that old vibe.. Rane Twelve could be.. Denon SC5000M could be.. Reloop 7/8000 or Pioneer PLX1000 could be.. ..(I'm stil mumbling)... Aside a dedicated night (60's, 70's, Funk&Soul,..) or a wedding client that ask 'absolutely vinyl only', records are 'out of needs'..I means, if you play at wedding many many times there're requests and (I think) is better try to fulfill..so, best setting is a DVS turntables set or new Rane Twelve..the crowd eyes are paied by watching you over something that roll and you've the chance to build best playlist they expect.. Vinyl records are so romantic!..but they're ok if you organize an 'ONLY VINYL NIGHT', people comes and knows that THIS IS THE FORMAT, no requests.. bytheway..I'm looking to build a 7" 60's/70's/80's collection, 12" too expensive.. :))

I'm so much happy when I've 2 turntables in front of me.. I feel to manage music for real, ctrl are smart but they doesn't drop me that feel.. On vinyl mode.. DVS is best to play at gigs: vinyl feel + library + cues/loops..my actual set is 2*Reloop 7000mk2 + Pioneer S9 (maybe Reloop Elite in near future) Analog Vinyl: great to play at home..my home set is 2*Reloop 7000mk2 + A&H DB4 (a beast of mixer it is!) or when someone ask for a Real Vinyl gig..

I have my decks in a blacked out Odyessy coffin I bring to weddings/events. Sucks lifting it and placing on the table. After I learn to use my roland Dj808 controller I'm switching. Less weight/space.

I didn't have the money for a nice set of turntables and a nice mixer so I purchased the NS7 III for some what the same reason.

I use cd's CDM4000. One of the reasons why I still am on the fence with the pro event table. No room for Mic, player, CD book, etc. Would I love to learn turntables, yes. If I could and had the money,...I would. Cool vid bsr.

Vinyl Djs are dope. Control vinyl is cool. Records are cool. But also using controllers are cool. IMO the "real" DJ mentality (only using vinyl) is going away because people are realizing the practicality. As a DJ, I like knowing that people see me spin records. They can come up and ask me about where I go digging or to see the sleeves I am spinning. Its tangible, its real. The crowd can know I spent my time digging for these records and my hard earned cash, not just some MP3's downloaded online.

I like to spin either using 1200s or NS7III over a controller with Jog wheels... I like the mechanical feedback they both give!

The most important thing is what you play...if it's with decks or cdjs a big club or wedding...people normally not botherd about what produces the music as long as it's appropriate for the dance floor....it's like anything technology moves on...

I use 2 Turntables to work with Traktor. Buy using turtables need more skills to beat match tracks. By using a controller just sync both tracks toghether and the cntroller will do it for. I'm happy using 2 Techniques to beat match on the mix.

Hi you doing Brian this dj AS I agree what you saying on this video about what these people talking about and they want people to get rid of turntables but me myself I like turntables I'm old-school myself although back in the day I used to like cassette tapes and things like that even though I don't use them anymore and I started working on CDs and Records and recording through CDs as soon as I hear about what these DJ's was doing now when they start hooking up with DJ controllers and also they use laptop computers and Apple MacBook computers it don't make no difference to me about what I use because I like my turntables I like control vinyls and I'm still sticking with that it just a lot of people out here don't know nothing about what technology is all about they just jealous and that's all it is I love being what who I am a recording DJ from at home no radio stations thank you if you accept my agreement yes or no that's fine I'm just speaking the truth that's all Brian have a good day

Vinyl is selling better than CDs but STREAMING is killing both. People still buy horses but jump in their chevy to get somewhere. Honestly, I didn't hear any arguments FOR turntables other than you have room in your van. Am I missing something? Hipsters?

Vinyl has a special feel to it and connects the DJ to the crowd. They can look at the sleeves of the records and see the DJ mixing. Very cool. People my age (21)are really stoked to see this happen

CDJ's/XDJs are the way to go. I can't fathom a reason to go with turntables other than nostalgia. In order to get rid of the weight/space problem it pretty much has to be with control vinyl, so a laptop, and from what I've seen people are way more impressed by no laptop than turntable+laptop. I mean why not make the same argument 'not everyone can' with cassette tapes then? Or wax cylinders...? But yeah, the tope two reasons I would never go back to vinyl are that 1. I don't want to have to choose between being tethered to a laptop or carrying around crates of vinyl and 2. The new technology which free's me from the laptop allows so much more creativity.

A long time ago I sold my Technic 1200's boy do I regret it now. I wish I still had them. I ended up buying the Pioneer brand PLX 500's their horrible.....I cant do anything but play a record on it. I bought new cartridges too thinking maybe the ones that came with the table just were no good but nope. So for those looking to mix on the pioneer PLX-500 save your money! Right now, I just want a pair of turntables at home to mix since I still do have some of my collection. I mix on a pioneer DDJ-SX2 controller. Thanks Brian

PLX-500 is for playback at home (belt drive consumer stuff), where the PLX-1000 is really what you were looking for (direct drive like your old SL1200 MKII)

If you want turntables that are better than 1200's from a technical standpoint, the Audio Technica AT-LP 1240's are amazing. I bought them recently and they're fantastic. Only 450 a piece as well.

I remember how the records use to skip, so you would set the weight on the arm to be heavier which was not good for your record but a needed compromise. Not only that but you forgot about the bad feedback that you would get with needles so there was also a problem with turning up the volume if vibrations started to effect the needle. Then there was lining up the music very tricky on an LP/ album as you would have to find the right groove. That's why my collection was mainly 45s/singles. And don't forget the slip mat, kinda of essential unless you wanted a slow low pitch build up of the song at the beginning. lastly yep the weight factor and the limited amount of actual music you could bring along. Happy i was there to talk about it now. The only factors that I think were for records were they were generally good studio recordings /better quality control and because it was more skill and hassle not everybody could get into it so DJing was more exclusive.

these days with dvs or that wireless system that turns vinyl decks into controllers turntables provide to me the best level of control there is.Of course i feel that way because i came from vinyl so using them with these modern systems works for me.I used to dj at a cafe where they liked me to play vinyl which was great and people were happy to see me doing that.

I absolutely agree. I have been using turntables since 1984 as well. In fact, I am still using my Technics 1210s purchased back in 1992. I enjoy using them because I am in my comfort zone and the youngsters think it's cool. I own a controller, but I just like the control while using the 12" control vinyl. I use it ONLY when I have limited time to set up and exit a venue. I also use the controller as a backup, just in case the software goes crazy when calibrating the control vinyl...Only drawback is these suckers are still heavy...But that comes with it...so I just deal with it...Great video Brian!!!

I stopped taking 2 CDJs and a DJM in flight cases to gigs around 2011. Switched to a controller and life has been so much easier and I think my gigs are better for it. I can bring every song I own.

If all you are doing is blending one song to another and not even scratching, then what’s the point of carrying turntables which weigh more and take up more space than a controller?
@briansredd
@briansredd 6 лет назад
Not every DJ who used turntables to mix was scratching as well. The idea of turntables at weddings is just an idea, nothing more. To expand on my argument for this, consider 2 kinds of people you may encounter at an event who would see this: those who remember turntables & may give you a thumbs up, and those who may have never seen this before & wonder What's That? Some may even ask "why", but it's all about conversation starters & that's a pretty good thing
