DJ Zirk doesn't get the credit & recognition he deserves. He was so ahead of his time. The music holds up cause I still listen to it today. Everyone else is not an original like DJ Zirk 💯
My classmates. Dj Zirk. You are a icon and legend in my book. I rocked everyone music in Memphis. Memphis has a sound and talent that can't be slept on. Great job my brother. Much luv to every rap artist in Memphis 4 life
He is tellin tha truth tho. Paul and juicy just did it better. If Squeeky would hv got right along time ago it might’ve been a different story. Look what Squeeky did for Dolph. Ain’t nothing like a hypnotized minds beat tho.
I remember them beefing I was in Jr. High. Paul even admits what he saying in interviews. Paul just never says his name. He said that’s why he had to stop doing mix tapes of other people around Memphis and do his own beats. His story about Skinny was pretty much the same too. I’m 46 so I know for a fact Zirk was doing music first but when Paul and Juicy started doing beats I never thought they sounded like a Zirk or Squeaky beat. It was almost like the Mound had a sound different from the rest of Memphis. I remember when 3-6 signed their deal it was in the papers but Squeaky and MoChedda signed a deal that same day. They were both in the news paper. I don’t think if Zirk would have blew up it would have stopped 3-6. They were too different in their sound plus 3-6 had Lord Infamous (RIP) and Gangsta Boo (RIP).
Zirk wasn’t hungry enough like Paul and Juicy. 36 sound was fresh and energetic. I wish they would have let Squeeky join with them. Squeeky had harder drums and bass lines.
Im from Memphis. Yes, 3-6 sampled him & and Squeeky, but no one at the time knew about copyrights. They were all kids and just trying to make money. Memphis didn't get organized until around 1995. So don't hate the game.
@@rickymcgruder4868 they say paul and juicy bit their style, but looking back,dj Zirk wasn't anywhere near as good as paul and juicy, this is kinda laughable!!! Dj squeeky was good ,but he wasn't as good as paul and juicy either, especially dj Zirk
@@sidneywilder2731dj Paul had better beats, and rappers and stayed consistent. I grew up in Memphis I'm 42 now and these dudes fell off back in high school days.
Memphis is such a unique place man its thr home of the original KRUNK MUSIC DJ ZIRK DID MAKE S SOUND THAT CHANGE THE GAME I still jam 36 and all the memphis rappers everyday ..and I feel everybody I see In a interview that's from Memphis they seem like just real down to earth people
I can remember rocking out with this cat on Saratoga with a host of other pioneers to the Memphis groove in Squeaky back room studio in the mid early & mid 90's It was people really getting locked in the trunk with subwoofers for hrs getting taken to the club ,the kettle,Ck's while folks sat down & ate, getting let out at 3 & 4 in the morning...it was wild I'm a Vet from the Sip.... Squeaky,Yerk,Tom Ski,Lil Grove,Lil Buck bad azz,C.Mane etc....The Blueprint
Juicy and Paul really was just sampling Buckshots voice because of his lyrics. No different from sampling Triggerman. But Juicy and Paul always been making their own shit. Shoutout to Zirk tho.
As a Houston native, Dj Screw formed the best noise I heard. Outside of home tho, in the South, even the whole country, Memphis Tennessee is by far my favorite sound
DJ Zirk is a LEGEND, he mad that DJ Paul & Juicy J made it big with they sound but hey when your chance presents itself take it but Squeeky held off and they got left behind. Three 6 Mafia got Platinum, Gold plaques, and a Oscar.
Zirk just mad cause he made bad business decisions and like he said passed up on deals. You live and you learn.. triple six Mafia. Three six Mafia. Hypnotize Minds forever
That's right!! D.J. Paul's creativity is way more harder than D.J. Zirk's!! Sometimes the emulator is harder than the originator; sometimes the nephew is harder than the uncle. Real talk🦜
The hate for Paul is unreal in Memphis when they don’t for sing out Memphis on the map for many many years we looked forward to every tape they came out with
I like the fact he said he was tired of sellin crack to his people. Most people in Hip-Hop glorify it so it's refreshing to hear. That's the same reason I stopped doing it my conscience was all up in the way lol
Ppl who really sell or sold drugs are tired of it and don’t glorify it. It’s just these fake ass rappers who don’t do it or never done it that glorify it because Sony or one of these record label equivalents told them to.
@Tyrone Smith naw bro errbody was sampling dj Jimmy No shit scar face Gangsta nimp dark scary sounds they could nt thought they were first all hoods had there share of Dj yall just floped I'm from South Memphis we been doing our Thang so stop clout chasing you didn't have the talent cause ur stars Omb went 2 Houston wise decision 36 ran shit so stop the flapping partner
@@dyoung4570 nope homie, still Dj spanish fly no1 in memphis lyrical n sound wise he was doing that shit in the beginning of the 80s not mind not late 80s dj paul n juicy even admit it on their early tapes, so hush brethem
Straight facts they was all young though Paul them just capitalized off it same as 8 ball & Mjg they’re really the greatest duo out the south from back then all Pioneers fasho not to mention skinny pimp was once the hardest artist out of Memphis from back then
Basically, long story short, DJ Paul and Juicy J was heavily influenced by DJ Zirk and DJ squeaky to the point where they were sampling all of their music and putting it in theirs go listen to DJ Zirk “2Thick” or DJ squeaky “cheese and dope” “don’t turn around” then go listen to these songs from 3/6Mafia Smoke a Sack 9 to ya dome Lookin for da Chewin Beat Down Grab the gauge We bout to ride Project Pat cheese & dope Project Pat don’t turn around And shiiid a whole lot of other music come from them
DJ Zirk signed to Hypnotized Minds would have lasted probably 12 months lol. DJ Paul & Juicy J tend to drop those that don't "go with the flow". Example of those that would not go with the flow: Playa Fly & T-Rock.
MJ didn't invent the Moonwalk .. he just perfected it. Same with Three6Mafia.. Zerk, Squeeky and others started the sound, but Paul and Juice perfected it. RIP Lord, Koop, and Boo!!!!! MAFIA!!!
DJ Zirk didn’t invent that sound. Neither did DJ squeeky. Or even DJ Paul. DJ Spanish Fly was the first to make music like that. And people always forget about DJ sound and the frayser click. But point being, no one person made Memphis rap sound. When people say it was all them, it just seems like they’re being jealous of 3 6 mafia
Zirk definitely deserves his flowers he paved such an important staple & SOUND in early gangster rap to underground gritty memphis rap 🔥 the whole 2 Thick Family was compiled of so much talent he knew his crew was on 🔒
@@djmani5113 lots of people just like to give the praise over to Paul and juicy since they’re the ones that made it go worldwide i mean yeah i do respect what Paul and juice did for the sound of memphis but doesn’t excuse how bitter and jealous they were of anybody else doing what they were doing. Paul would be connected with radio hosts/shows so bad to the point he had to pay them to not play their competition’s shit i mean if that ain’t some hater ass ish then idk man lol
This is good Memphis music history... Pioneers of the sound.. Dj Zirk, Dj Squeaky, Mr. NIG, Spanish Fly, Mac DLE, SMK, & more. Shiii.. I even remember that Lil Stick Up tape /w song called "Bitch Boy". Mane should of keep up with my collection. I had all black & white mixtapes.
You know one thing I never understood is that people say that “Squeeky and Zirk are hating on Paul and Juicy for them taking their style… they made it better so just deal with it…” but then say that people like $uicideBoys and Doomshop Records stole Three 6 mafia sound and aren’t original… the sound that they themselves got from Squeeky and Zirk… this logic NEVER made sense to me. To be honest, these legends need more respect fam. They’re the pioneers of the sound and made some cold music. Shout out to Squeeky, Zirk, Spanish Fly, and SMK💯💎 PS: Not saying $uicideBoys and Doomshop Records stole, I believe it was merely influence and those guys are extremely talented fasho🤙🏾
My point is if people are going to say that “stealing is stealing” it needs to be the same all across the board… people like to pick and choose. If you say $uicideBoy$ stole then that would mean Paul and Juicy did too. It doesn’t matter if they did it “better” than Squeeky and Zirk, if they were more “business savvy”, OR if they “perfected” the sound. Paul and Juicy did the EXACT same thing that people accuse others of doing. I’m just using $uicideboy$ and Doomshop Records as examples. Plus people get mad and disrespect Squeeky and Zirk when they talk about what happened, and how they never get their credit. The anger and disrespect from the fans is what doesn’t make sense. I don’t know HOW this is so hard for people to understand… it honestly amazes me. It is what it is I guess.
@@Novakane2011 man that song really ain't all that period!!!! I can't believe he's trying to compare his music to paul and juicy, dj zirk wasn't that good
@@sidneywilder2731 you don't like zirk at all? The 2Thick mixtape is good, and the 2 thick song is sampled by damn near everybody. From what I've heard so far I don't think there stuff is better than Dj Paul or Juicy J either. At least not on the production level they perfected the sounds alot more
@@Novakane2011 it's not that I don't like dj zirk, but I thought his music was nowhere compared to Paul and juicy, and he most definitely can't rap 🤦🤦🤦
Zirk said Paul should of been positive, but this entire interview was about DJ Paul…. Basically you saying if 3/6 mafia doesn’t blow up you aren’t relevant, and i love zirk squeek n all that underground Memphis
II Thick album and Buckshot's strapped with them thangz album was the most sampled album by Paul. But Zirk and Squeeky are forgetting that they sampled the music from K Rino, Gangsta Nip, Point Blank, and all of SPC. All Memphis artists did unauthorized sampling in the 90s. Paul and Juicy were better and for the most part there artists stayed out of jail.
He said he didn't wanna work with bun b (which probably could've became a rap-a-lot deal) because ugk was cool with Paul? That man was blockin his own blessings with pride... smh
I met Zirk last year at my homegirl Teety Blue video shoot. Cool ass brother. Humble, easy to talk to and gave me some game on this industry. S/O to to the homie DJ Zirk!!. Lock em in da trunk 🔥🔥💯💪
The sound that came out of Memphis was truly unique and will go on to being the most influential movement in the history of rap music. It came from talented people with little to no musical training and a lack of fancy equipment. I believe this type of situation tends to produce some of the most intriguing art. There are probably hundreds of aging producers in Memphis that have made a life of claiming they are responsible for this sound. The truth is that these things are a perfect casserole of excitement about something new and inspiring. A remarkably powerful underground music scene leaves alot of folks bitter in time. Triple 6 wasnt stealing anything from anyone. They just happen to have all the elements as opposed to one or two...and they did it better than the rest. These cats are great, and had a huge impact on it all...but someone evemtually did it better.
I'm from Memphis and a fan of both, but the sounds was always different to me,3-6 did tht shit on another level and Squeeky still a top producer,he got major hits,"Welcome Back" Jeezy is one,I would love to hear Paul and Squeeky production together🔥🔥🔥 but 3/6 put the city on the map with Banger after Banger, lock'em in the trunk is definitely a Memphis classic, salute to Memphis Tn,we never get our credit because it has never been no unity,we had this shit popping before Atlanta
Saying 3-6 Mafia took DJ Zirk beat is true but 3-6 Mafia's (DJ Paul & Juicy J) production was light years ahead of what other producers where doing in Memphis. DJ Zirk & DJ Squeaky may have laid down the beat foundation, but Paul & Juicy perfected it. Similar to Atlanta, which Raheem The Dream, Hitman Sammy Sam & Kilo Ali laid down the foundation of the Atlanta sound, but OutKast & Goodie Mob perfected it, light years ahead of it's time.
This was before a time folks new about the business aspects of it all.. these are street nxggas that had it because of the dope game.. you gotta remember in Memphis the crack era was massive, you could make thousands a night just being on the track sellin crack.. especially before the projects got knocked down.. it was crazy times tho, many of folks were getting killed left & right.. but, they didn’t care about the business part
@@MidTierVillain bruh birdman a street nigga knew this shit biz,j prince street dude knew the biz,jay z street nigga we can gone on the man is complaining because he not rich its clear
Im glad Zirk knows the world knows his (& Squeekys) position in this music thang and his impact on music, instead of just Paul & Juicy getting all the glory.
Dude the past like 3 years so many interviews from all of the Memphis rappers from back in the day is like gold to me! I've heard stories since the 2000s ever since I wondered what happened to people in Three 6 and everyone else they had beefs with, just all that stuff and man I remember back in the day when Koop told his story, and that was the only one who had a youtube video for the longest time about three 6, but so many questions I've always had for years have finally been unraveling, it's just so good to hear them come out of the shell and let loose Paul and Juicy be quite as fuck too
Was a lot of crimes and shootouts. They're mafia they can't talk until the last man standing to protect freedom and sanity. Also they don't have to explain. They got their ENDs why stir things up that's been settled in time. Looking back on things I've done as a teen Im not proud of or know was immature isn't something I like talking about. I don't know enough about anything they call beef or what actually did or didn't go down to want to form anything beyond superficial opinions. I had a falling out with multiple family members of the late and my first emotional response usually is violence but I'm sober and wise enough to know there's better way to go about doing things. Don't become your enemy but keep them close if they're a threat. You can copy all their moves without carrying their way of thought and rationale. Transfer the energy the same way a brake slows down a vehicle. Paul and Lord got real serious when they saw their chance and instead of getting distracted they pushed them tapes and hurt Zirk more than any torture could have. They got everything he wanted before he knew he could have it and it was too late. From what I can tell.
Paul and juicy probably feel like they don't need to do interviews. They already have gotten pressed over uncleared samples and taking from other artists so I'm sure they worry about some ridicule from that but also, they both do well enough on their own and market towards a targeted fan base that I don't feel like they feel the need to get out there. Them boys won awards artist could only dream of winning. I'm sure theyre just chilling. Paul's "no jumper" interview had me wishing Adam22 had been a fan for longer than a week so he could've asked some better questions because that's one of the best solo Paul interviews I've ever seen. Crunchy is entertaining and I love his videos but I'm sure some of his knowledge is limited due to the technical side of music and I don't think "GLADTV" always asks questions worth tuning into. The recent rise of Memphis is really great because cats are finally getting a way to document a previously, relativity slept on era of music and it's nice to see so many influential legends get their shine. Some cats come out looking bummy after all this time, like Tommy wright scamming fans, but I love the Memphis resurgence. Only issue is that tape price spike. My collection damn near tripled in value but has also prevented me from really expanding lol.
@@markjones5757 to each it's own. But Paul and Juicy BITE DJ Squeeky and DJ Zirks beat patterns, songs( word for word) they good at what they do, but their whole legacy is built off SQUEEKY AND ZIRK!
Shoulda coulda woulda ...... You can tell he's still upset about stuff that happened 25 years ago . Let it go ..... You can tell your story without being negative
If I were zirk... Which im not Mane what's sup with you and 3-6? Me : 😁 mane shout out to them boys ...we had misunderstandings bout 30 years ago...it's water under the bridge now ..... Check out my new album
I rep Memphis in a whole stayed in all part’s except South or the mound, Ayyoo lock em in the trunk 🔥🔥🔥🔥 didn’t know who made that thought it was 3 6 mafia
Every DJ in Memphis back in the 90s sampled. Without samples there would be no Memphis rap scene. Squeeky and Zirk did mixtapes with DJ BK. Copyright infringements on every song.
Zirk tries so hard to not say DJ Paul or Three 6 Mafia. much respect to all of the OG's of the Memphis rap sound. True Memphis rap fans no who they are but you cannot take anything away from Three 6 Mafia because they are the biggest thing to ever come out of Memphis and have produced hit after hit for multiple decades!
Yeah fam, I think it’s weird people talk shit about folks like Doomshop Records (very talented crew) for being influenced by the sound…but Paul and Juicy ended up being influenced by Zirk and Squeeky sound. And on top of that people hate on Squeeky and Zirk… don’t make sense fam.
