If you think Tarantino is a racist, ask any of his POC lead role actors or any of those cast by him as a person of color and see if they don’t stand by his vision or what he stands for. This was a film to make fun of the hypocrisy of racism and how wrong it was but made to feel right by the people of the time. This is by far my favorite Tarantino film and always will be.
I'm black. (I have no doubt someone will "doubt" that fact because apparently if you don't say "person of color" or "african-american", you ain't black now) but anyway, I just want to say, this is in my top 5 favorite movies, and I'm someone who doesn't typically like movies from the past decade. Tarantino isn't racist for simply using the N-word in his scripts or showing racism as it is. That's PC stuff.
Why is racism only for blacks and whites? It's total horseshit that's been leveraged and politicised. White guilt shouldn't exist. Governments are racist. Not individuals. We were all born into this machine by chance. We should all understand that the human condition binds us all as one family. Corporate/Govt powers need us separated. Every true racist i ever met NEVER actually knew a black person. I have several "ex racist" friends who are dear to me, who show up for me and I show up for them. We are all in this together.
Samuel L. Jackson stated that half of Tarantino’s black characters were actually the smart, intellectual characters, which a racist director would never be able to create characters that way.
i’ve always escaped with the idea Quentin wanted to create a western to honour leone and cobucci, whilst also wanting to convey the message or racism not being a colour issue, but a power issue. Stephen is honestly a bit more openly racist towards Django than Calvin, because Stephen now sees someone he can lorde his position over, it goes on and on and on
I wnat to watch that but my father is being over-protective and saying I can’t and he’s never been voter-protective about movies before like wth? I love leo
Leo is incredible. He made his character feel like at any moment he could just snap and kill anyone he wants and get away with it. Like a bear in the room. It's almost like your throat clenches up just watching the tension in those scenes.
Personally, I'm an absolute sucker for those tensions. They draw me in the movie so much, it's crazy. That's why I still vividly remember DiCaprio's scenes, the madness seemed so genuine and unpredictable, and you could hear a needle fall when he was in the room.
One of the greatest things about Tarantino, is that his movies are for truly mature audiences. Many of his detractors and their complaints seem childish, shortsighted and simpleminded. Life isn’t all sunshine and roses, and he doesn’t insult our intelligence, hold our hand or water anything down and I have a great appreciation for that.
Dominic Cobb take Django Unchained for an example he doesn’t soften the abuse that went on during this time. He doesn’t censor violence, language or anything for that matter if it’s a relevant truth and plays a part in delivering something to the audience whether it’s information, feeling, mood or whatever.
@@tomistenqvist1311 in this case you are right, but what about kill bill? I wouldn't say the violence in kill bill is about truth it's just about being as violent as possible:D
Dominic Cobb yes i agree :D that movie is very very violent and full of gore but there is a lot more to that movie or movies. I think one of the reasons Tarantino did all of the violence is to show how bad ass a FEMALE protagonist can be without making it sexual in anyway. He also showcases how vendetta as a drive is not a good idea etc. I totally get your point and I appreciate you taking an approach that doesn’t involve cursing me out :D I also stand by my initial statement that his goal is not to provoke. And if people get provoked by movie violence they have no idea what every single human being is actually capable of doing. Just read through the 20th century history and your naivity will die!
I loved it for its randomness. Him popping up as an Australian in the US in the 1800s wasn't factually believable and had no connection to the storyline. That made it hilarious to me.
@@samriggs1616 It's definitely an Australian accent I live in South Africa and the White people that live here don't really sound like that when they speak.
believable? you guys aren't thinking tarantino is actually australian, are you? his character is australian, he's faking an australian accent on purpose because australian slavers in the caribbean were a real thing
Toxically Masculine where’s your evidence for Australians being involved in the Caribbean slave trade? Australia has its own shameful history with slavery but related more to Aborigines and the Pacific islands. Aside from this the characters are miners, not slave traders. Django asks “So you work for the LeQuint Dickey Mining Co. don’t ya?” To which they reply yes. Gold miners from Australia went to California in search of their fortunes and vice versa.
Tarantino is amazing. There ain’t no strings on him, he tells the story exactly as he wants to tell it. The actors that work with him are fantastic. He asks them to do some hard stuff and they come through with flying colors. Django is a must watch film.
YES! i would have loved to see jango retire to a farm with his misses or a plantation of his own where he has people working for him of all color and paying them for their services. That would have been a cherry on an already near perfect movie.
What I love about Django, is it’s Tarantino’s most straight forward film plot wise (in my opinion) When you look at movies like pulp fiction or reservoir dogs, that are told in a non linear fashion, they can be confusing, especially if it’s your first time watching them. Although pulp fiction is my favorite film of all time, I remember being completely confused when I saw it the first time. I had to watch it like four times before I understood it. I always loved it, but it took me some time to understand it. With this film, I never had that problem. I remember seeing it in the theater, and being able to full understand the plot and the story. And yet it still had that Tarantino charm. If you ask me, Tarantino is the greatest film maker of all time
I watched this movie 2 months ago, and as Black South African I say he could have made it better by including all of the deleted scenes. I feel like he dumbed it down because he knew some wimps would still cry about it. Notice that there was not one black person getting hung, no black women raped by white masters and no racist songs like 12 years a slave, because that actually happened during slavery. They treated our people like trash and they wanted them to be reminded day by day. But anyways this has to be the greatest film I've ever seen in my life. Django Unchained is a classic. Happy 10th anniversary.
The movie would be 4 hours long if they covered everything. As for 12 hours a Slave….that movie changed me. I was actually Angry afterwards. It was That good.
This is one of my favorite movies hands down. Tarantino and the entire cast was extremely admirable. I can keep rewatching this movie and pick up new things everytime. That's when you know you really enjoy a movie.
no. what's wieid is anyone being bothered by the term "nigga" when blacks use it in every other sentence. THAT is weird. btw - i'm not offended by things like " nigga" or by a swastikas . i am offended by tall of the rioters in the streets committing crimes right now - that REALLY pisses me off.
Most people procrastinate because they're unsure. We over analyze because we're unsure. Just do it anyway, Time costs lives, Most times, it amazes me greatly how I moved from an average lifestyle to earning over $83k per month, Utter shock is the word. I have come to realize a lot in the past few years that there are lots of opportunities in the financial market. The only thing is to know where to invest.
@Dulce de Leche I agree with you and I believe that the secret to financial stability is having the right investment ideas to enable you earn more money, I don’t know who agrees with me but either way I recommend either real estate or crypto and stocks.
@Queen OF Love That won't bother you if you trade with a professional like *Mr Gary Mason Brooks* my coach, you may have come across him on interviews relating to bitcoin. He trades, manage trading account and offer mentorship program for clients who wish to become professional investors.
Wow I can't believe you guys are discussing about *Gary Mason Brooks* , I once met him at a conference in California 2019, just before the pandemic. I can testify that he’s very good in trading..Highly recommended.
@@roklin1 Well this not my first time of seeing this name on social platform. A CNBC news host spoke highly of this man and his trading strategies. Do you know him ? if yes , did you invest with him ?
@@bjoe631 Yes i do, I've known him for couple of years, I'm still using his services, His management team is quite impressive so far.... with my $15,000 deposit, I made over $288,000 profit with just 10% charge.
John Connor you’re supposed to save the World From Skynet but you can’t even face reality in History 😭, no wonder you became a Robot in the later shittier movies
Ofc some racist were offended to see racist slave owner being killed, like the one above here, they feel offended to see the kkk being targeted... How did you guys forget about them, sadly they are not only 4 people.
It is kinda sad that DiCaprio has yet to win an Oscar. The 3 movies where I think he deserved an Oscar was the Departed, Blood Diamond and this movie. Why do the Academy Awards keep snubbing him!
Oh my goodness I know. I feel like it's appropriate to wonder if the Academy Awards are rigged. How hasn't DiCaprio won one yet? Next to Tom Hanks he, in my opinion, is the best actor in the past few decades.
@@shmekback6069 the blood he smeared on her face was real.. that’s why she had such a realistically horrified face when he did it in the film, It caught her off guard.
@@joshyoungblood4279 Sorry to burst your bubble but that’d be a health code violation 😂 also in the scene you can clearly see multiple cuts between the moment he cut his hand and the moment the blood is smeared
We dont even realise how lucky we are to have someone like tarantino. He is so unique and driven with his own methods. His name should be just as known as spielberg. Difference is spielberg was making movies in a time when cinema was about to hit its peak and cinemas and drive ins were a social gathering place. One of the greatest. Ever.
I loved that he played music between scenes. I'm sure this was an incredibly emotional film to work on every day. This shows how much he thought about the peoples mental health.
wrong. the movie would not have succeeded without the gifted quentin tarantino :) the movie was better because of waltz, as he is amazing, but the film would've done just fine, even great, without him too lol. Quentin's premise, idea, cinematography etc etc
@Javier Arroyo Okay, since you are blatantly challenged, let me reiterate that Django was a intellectual property that has already been made and it starred a white man( that seen with Jamie Foxx at the bar speaking to that man and he starts spelling his own name, that guy was the first Django). So once again for the "cool" kids in class who sit in the back and suck each other off, None of any of the comments above had nothing to do with race, until you (a typical brainlet) made it about race.
Quentin is a classic artist because he continues to push the envelope and doesn't follow a template. people only find it controversial because they're weak sauce
@@wiggy8912 Following a template means basically making the same movie over and over. Tarantino definitely doesn't do that. He has trademarks just like a lot of good directors but all of his movies are significantly different
Absolutely love the actors chosen for every single QT movie. Very talented actors. They always TRANSCEND characters. Y’all know what I mean when I say “they transcend characters” bring the character to life when you see only the character and not the actor because their craft is so convincing. Amazing talent.
Django Unchained is one of the best Tarantino films I've seen. I love ALL his work, but this one I've seen the most. Mr Fox, Mr DiCaprio, Mr Walts and Mr Jackson were each just incredible. Amazing story that sheds light on a past that must never be forgotten.
+Tyrell Wellick Its because they miss the point of the movie. They hear about all the violence and racism in the movie, and they also get annoyed at having any form of comedy along side racism. This movie has all that but they miss the point. Jamie fox summed it up in the last sentence. Its not about black people killing white, its about the black guy trying to live his life with his women. Critics are heavily to blame for this, as negatively reviewing a controversial movie makes them more popular than giving an accurate review. People then form a biased opinion without ever watching the movie. Just like the controversy following the release of mass effect. So many people complaining about it when they had not even seen it. It all comes down to ignorance. That and i think people like to forget the slave thing ever happened and dont like being reminded of it.
Not only is he the greatest living director in his genre, he got the coolest name too.. Quintin Tarantino 😎 Can’t believe how cool his movies are. It’s ridiculous..
I've seen the movie numerous times, but it just gets me everytime. It's just incredible. The cast did an amazing job, but I can't go over THE DiCaprio. He is a God of all actors. No one could have done better job. Exceptional. When he talked about old Ben scull, everyone was so mad. Best tarantino movie, will watch it at least once a year, because masterpieces have to be rewatched, numerous times.
“My name is django. The D is silent” is such a great line, basically putting whoever he’s talking to in their place. Showing he’s not an ordinary black man since slaves weren’t allowed to learn how to read. Power move for sure.
Louis Martin she's never seen the original "Roots" where the guy that played the slave owner whipping Toby was the lovable dad from "The Brady Bunch" lol A great actor(ress) can play opposite themselves. I'm Black and it was a great movie with exellent charcters.
@@calipto4605 Sure buddy XDDDDD this race shit damm... people it's 2019 i don't give a fuck if you are blue or purple. (This goes for the lady that felt the NEED to say her color).
Such a full on movie, although a hard watch at times it was such an incredible film. the only disappointment is that Tarantino won't make anymore movies passed his 10th I think he has such incredible story telling skills that his movies are just completely unique in their own very rare special kinda way.
Nothing about this film made me mad! well except for the fact that Dr. shultz got killed. he was one of my favorite characters. other than that this has became my favorite movie.
thats a great part of the movie tho, all he had to do was not kill candy but he really couldnt resist since its so easy for him to kill people and how much he hated candy, easy to relate to both sides of the table.
I really don't know anyone who didn't like this film but whether you liked it or not, if you watched it... YOU FELT IT. It's very realistic to the era portrayed and an amazing film. The *Kill Bills, Four Rooms, Dusk Till Dawn, Death Proof, Reservoir Dogs, Hateful Eight, Django, Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood and Pulp Fiction* are classics. Whether they were top billed films or naah. They will always be sought after because of the greatness of Quentin Tarantino and his vision in how he chooses to showcase a picture🎥 This man IS a movie genius🎬
Tarantinos smirk when she says there’s someone for everyone to hate in this film is marvelous. And I never thought there was a leading man in this film, I felt like it was all they’re stories being told.
I actually disagree with you here. I thought Jamie had severe issues detaching from his "rich real life" and fully entering the mind of a slave. And this interview fully comfirmed that feeling. He mentions his wrong initial mindset and you can see in Tarantino's gaze this moment that he knows Jamie did not manage to pull off the role as fully as he wished. Also, Chris did great, sure, but not as outstanding as in Inglorious Bastards. Same for Leo, I thought it wasnt his best performance. I think mean roles aren't really made for him, he is such a nice guy irl it's too much of a stretch for him. I loved the movie but overal I thought the rendition of all actors was not the strength of Django (except perhaps Samuel who did an awesome job, but again, his role was closer to the usual wacky/smart characters he usually plays in Quentin's films).
TReXcuRRy Idk I thought it was a great movie. Jamie’s character as Django went through a serious arc so I can see how the mindset changed like when he was initially freed he didn’t speak much and seemed curious about the world. A few months later he learned more from whatever actor played Schultz so then Django became his own man and wanted to fight back against people who opposed him. Leo was actually really good as a spoiled young man. He was prideful, arrogant and his ego seemed so fragile throughout the movie so I thought he play his role well. Jackson was great! A bit weird when he transitioned from like an old man into a kind of advisor or sadist though
So there an idea there. Reverse Racism is the idea that you can't be racist towards a particular group but its okay for them to be racist towards you. Its a bad name for the idea but it is what it is.
Tarantino is by far the best director Hollywood has ever been blessed with. Hes an absolute artists. 2nd to none. This entire cast and movie was amazing. Ive seen it 5x and will watch it many more. Soundtrack was great too!
The movie was AMAZING. I’ve watched it around 10 times. Personally I think that if they didn’t do it exactly how it is now it wouldn’t have been as powerful. It was a GREAT movie 👏🏼 they did an great job.
I actually had doubts about Dicaprio being in a Tarantino film. Especially as a plantation owner. BOY WAS I FUCKING WRONG!!!! He was GRRREEAAATTT in that movie!!!"
@@theres3peopleinthisacc743 sorry, AN ACTOR isn’t the character they portray in films. Aka, Leonardo doesn’t actually say the N-word with the hard R normally, only in this film.
One thing I loved about this movie is the how it used a German character as an anti racist in the American South, and who frees and ultimately forms a strong personal bond and roots for his black former slave compadre. Hollywood has an issue of limiting German characters to negative traits mostly related to nazism. I appreciated Django offering a different and v positive lead German character. Well done Tarantino & Waltz.
Haha yeah it's kind of a cliche. How to get an Oscar as a German producer? Oscar bait. Write a movie about ww2. Worked perfectly for "Die Fälscher" (the forgers).
One of my favorite movies of all time. Django is such a powerful character, inspirational to everyone (depicted by Jamie Foxx imo his best role). The theme song gives me chills!
I rewatched this yesterday, and I still think the BEST scene in the entire movie is how QT's bit character is dealt with. An extreme deletion scene, worthy of an Oscar on it's own.....
@001 002 yep. Youre a horrible person. Half because of your obvious racism and half because you genuinely think statistic or science support your beliefs about black people in the slightest. I hope you dont spread your ignorance more.
"Django Unchained" blew me away. I've read some history and Toni Morrison's "Beloved". It hit me between the eyes and Quentin Tarantino is a master at creating suspenseful, colliding plot lines. Amazing! I bought the film on RU-vid after researching it a bit. I watched it. I'm impressed. There were definitely a few laughs in the movie, but you'll grab your seat in suspense. Intense.
Fuck yeah, those two are an epic duo, I never saw it as a racist against white people film, I saw it as the two heroes kicking ass and taking names, this is coming from a white canadian guy btw, so I'm pretty fuckn white.
sobekflakmonkey Never seen a racist against white people movie ? Hmm, well you sir clearly have never seen a black comedy before, it is full of racist stereotypes of Blacks, Asians, Hispanics AND whites. I recommend you try the film Friday, you will see what I mean. Good day.
***** Oh really ? Black comedy is OFTEN (not always) filled with stereotypes. A stereotype is the typical notion of how someone is expected to behave based usually on race and/or Nationality. Racism is prejudice based on a persons race. As stereotypes (positive or negative) are a prejudice assumption of how someone of a certain race behaves, the stereotypes that are often depicted in Black comedy films ARE indeed racist (though only mildly). Please sir, you are clearly not well informed on what Racism actually is... Go learn and come back later when you've grown up a little. For example, let us take the Black comedy movie 'Friday'. In it a father and son get into an argument over who ate the last chicken in the fridge. Now if this had been a film by white men it would have been denounced as racist as it depicts black stereotypes. There are a number of other stereotypes in the movie as well and many Black comedy films follow this same trend of adding stereotypes with the thought that as it is 'Black' comedy, racism simply does not apply. I am sorry to say but Racism is not solely applicable to a white person...
***** Attempting to fend off scrutiny by implying you did not mean what you said is just weak. You are implying by what you said that Black people who use stereotypes are not racist because ? Black ? If you want to speak about something, make sure you have a slight notion of what the hell you are actually speaking about.
I hate that this entire interview is about the movie's "controversies". No real questions about the meaning of the movie, the purpose of the movie, the significance of the filming location. McFadden had three of the most successful artists in the country in the room with her and she totally missed the mark.
That's because that's the subject of the interview, the controversial subject of the film and the people's complaints about it. You don't go into an interview about pets and expect to be talked about Afghanistan right?
It's abc news. What did you expect? It's the notorious fakenews younger sister of CNN. Their job is to rile up hate and division. They totally didn't like Jamie's position on don't all white folks.
I just got done watching Django again, 9 years later- god damn what a classic. This movie is too good. Tarantino will be remembered as one of the best there ever was.
I loooooove Jamie.. He most definitely worked too the bone to get where he is. I remember watching him in “In Living Color”, and the roles he’s played since prove what an all around actor he is. He killed it in this movie and I hope he takes his career above and beyond what it has already become.
How Leonardo DiCaprio did NOT win an Oscar for his character is still beyond me. I was never a Quentin Tarantino fan and actually stopped watching Reservoir Dogs at the scene where they cut off a guys ear, drench him in gasoline and set him on fire. That scene was too much for me! It took me 10 years before I watched the movie to the end. The movie that got me watching Tarantino again was Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchanged. He's a brilliant director.
An ear cut and gasoline drench was too difficult for you to watch? Then you should definitely stay away from Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill because those were 10x worse.
sickle slash How is inglorious bastards anti white? Inglorious Bastards features white people killing white people (I know they're Jewish but anyone that considers them non white is stupid IMO) And this is a movie set in a time period where this shit actually happened, it doesn't sugar coat it but I suppose people just want to forget it happened and live in the present which I sorta agree with but this is a damn good movie
Let me put things into perspective for you, sickle. I'm a National Socialist and I still found Django Unchained a pretty damn good movie. Nothing is anti-white about it unless you consider barbaric, racist sentiment a white trait, in which case you're probably one of those backwoods-nationalist types. Inglorious Bastards was a propaganda piece in my opinion, but both films were entertaining.
Nox At least you can admit to being a piece if shit. It still makes you a piece of shit who doesn't know the difference between movie and propaganda though.
I told friends in80s that Jodie Foster was Gay a lesbian been called crazy that I was bugging. That she stayed in the closet to not loose romantic roles. Anyway B4 she came out 20 years later I was right. I got the vibe Quentin Tarantino is gay. I'm not saying it matters,I'm just saying,
Tarantino is by far one of the greatest directors in industry...he is not racist..just showing how African-Americans were treated during those times ... such an amazing director of 21th century...
@Selene I think making a movie like Django needs a lot of courage, because the truth they show can receive many critics for being so raw and painful for certain people.
@Salem Yeah, it's not like many directors were too scared to make a movie about slavery, right? There are hundreds of American movies like that, right?
At around 4:10 when Tarantino just smiles when Jamie Foxx is speaking about that girl. They both remembered an impactful moment on set that cameras didn't capture. We're all human, and love is possibly the most human emotion.
