I prefer to call this phrase "djembe call" or "djembe signal", because "break" can mean other things like a pre-agreed phrase played by everyone (after the signal). The ternary rhythms are roughly grouped in two groups and the signal you play in the video corresponds to one of them (Dya,Soko etc.). For the other group tri-piti-piti-piti (Soli etc.), and tagaditagada (dundungbe etc.) are used.
If not Djembe, which drum is most fun to play ? I grow up playing a full drum set / kit and had a band in my late teens.. now I wanna restart playing, but feel going to buy a full drum kit in an apartment in the city is not gonna work.. So, am considering some kind of percussion but not sure which of the so many choices I sold look into? I like it it versatile that you can play both traditional beats but also make it modern and funky .... what best to consider then? thanks :)) love this channel, so simple to follow along on my knees and sofa that got a god bounce actually, like a bas drum ha ha... I really wanna start ot play drums again one way or another... please advise me!
