The GoPro does have a much better bit rate at the moment, though. I hope DJI comes up with a firmware update soon which they typically do because they actually listen to their customers.
That's true, on my initial tests though when pixel peeking I've not noticed more artefacts so maybe the compression algorithms have been improved a fair bit. But yes, one of the reasons I still buy and use DJI is because they seem to take note 👍 thanks for taking the time to comment 🙏
They probably didn't add the tripod thread because it adds a lot of weight. Also, if you add a lightweight tripod mount, it easily breaks like the one on the Insta360. It makes more sense to clip on a tripod mount so I agree with their decision to not add it.
Good point well made 👍 I suppose the reality is I don't often mount these on a tripod other than for a night lapse and even then it's a pain.. I need to invest in more quick release bases. Thanks for the comment 🙏
While the action 5 wins out in low light, its worth pointing out that not only does the gopro have a tripod thread built in, it also has a 20% higher data rate, and can record 5.7k video rather than just 4k, and if you ad the media mod, you can use any external mic, and you can also add a light directly to it (or gopro's light mod) and that completely changes the low light performance. Also the media mod has a micro hdmi port so you can connect the gopro directly to a tv or projector, which is something that the action 5 pro cant do. The gopro with mods is a lot more expensive, but you can create a full camera system to suit your needs.
I have had the Gopro 10/11 switched to Action 3 / 4 and ordered the 5 Pro yesterday .... The only good thing about the gopro is the magnetic charge cover ( how useful are the extra lenses ,just more faffing about and can get damaged easily) however the 4 hour battery will help a lot along with the backwards compatibility. Tripod mounts can be got as a extra , the quick release is great for me
I keep holding on with GoPro but this year is the exception.. the 13 just doesn't really give me a quality boost and as for the low light, well it's just not comparable with video. I accept not everyone needs that but all through the winter, I night ride on the MTB, it's great fun and the AcePro and now the 5 Pro give me something noticeably better.. and yes, you're right, the 4 hours battery is definitely welcome 🙏 Hope you enjoy the 5 when it arrives, I would be interested in if you see much of a difference as I have the Action 3 not 4 to compare.. thanks for the comment 👍
