ActiveTrack 5.0 on the DJI Air 3 brings it up to par with their highest end, Mavic 3 series. Even with a few close calls, this drone handled the obstacle it faced very well!

Love the DJIs for their all round capabilities, which keep improving with each and every new model, but the Skydio’s active tracking is hard to match. Good job on this video Billy👍👍😄

I love my DJI Mini 3 Pro and use it at least once a week as long as the weather is good. This new drone has some fantastic features but the light weight and smaller size of the Mini 3 Pro makes me want to wait for the Mini 4 Pro to come out. But DJI makes great products and you can't go wrong purchasing any of their drones.

I have the Mini 3 Pro too and love it, but the moment I pick the Air or Mavic drones I instantly feel the difference in the build quality. Its too bad we have the weight class at 250gm. 350gm will allow for more rigidity in the shell

One thing I did notice Billy is that the obstacle avoidance was still active when you put it in sport mode get out of that tree I think that's awesome if they have included that with this new drone that Optical avoidance is still operable in any mode

No new true is truly tested, until it take it on your ActiveTrack test course. I thought it did well, as good as the Mavic 3 Pro. Except when it got itself caught in that tree. Great video Billy, thanks for sharing.

HOLY SMOKES you brought up such a great idea with the “bread crumbs” updating your home point. I’ve personally never used the drone to follow me, as I’ve always operated from a static point, but that feature could be extremely useful for those who do. A potential problem I could see would be that the home point automatically updates to a spot that’s in the middle of the street or otherwise unfit for landing. For instance, it lands in the water because you were following a boat and forgot to disable that feature. It’s another thing to add to a preflight checklist, but you could map out safe “checkpoints” that the drone would pilot to as you get closer to it. This could be pretty simple to code as well.

Or since it is with constant connection to the RC to be able to land or just fly near to the position of the RC. So there would be settings for fly to the initial home point and fly to the position of the RC.

So you want them to bring back features from the Mavic Pro, Spark and Air... You could fly the MP with your phone, you could have the other drones track you with a gesture. A Beacon is something they have considered, they even prototyped a 'watch'. If the drone could track your phone, or a combo of a phone and Motion Controller, I'd think that would work well. The thing I always say is that when you track a human but put it on a vehicle, bike, one wheel, etc it's a problem for the algorithm that expects human speed and movement. They need a user defined "bike" mode or "enhanced human" mode. Good test!

Is the reason it gets confused because you're essentially standing sideways? So when you tell it to track your "right", your right shoulder and side is actually behind you. Also, think about the next generation of drones.. If they simply implement a microphone and a gpu for LLM encoding, you could simply just talk to the drone to get it to do what you want, and it could "speak" back at you. We already have the tech working, we just need to put it in a drone.

Great video, Billy, and I think you're on to something here: In an effort to lower the amount of sensors (and processing power), DJI opt to use a fish eye cameras pointed in an angle. Being so, I suspect the drone perceive reality in a distorted way, if you will, and that might very well be the reason for the strange behavior of it getting extremely close to you and to some of the obstacles along the route. I don't recall any of the other drones fly in that fashion.

So how do I get on with it following ME on MY bike through the trees on a goat track on my motorbike? With my hands tightly wrapped around the handle bars I cannay afford to babysit the thing using the remote control! I also was wanting it to track me from the front but unfortunately it looks like it’s crap for that too. Thanks for the video.

Excellent improvement on tracking but not good enough. I hate it when my mini 3 pro fly too close to the subject while tracking. I see the same issue on your test on air 3. DJI need to improve on that issue while on active track. Thank you for your review on the air 3 active track capabilities.

Air 3 got a very snappy responsive active track!! Billy i got the Mavic 3 & the mini3pro and i want this drone lol BUT TBH I wont get it because i wont use the two drones i own, i just love the fresh fine tune on the Air3 & that O4 image transmission upgrade!
