I found a perfect use case for the head tracking today. I was filming some surfers at the beach. The head tracking makes it easy to keep the camera on the surfer when they are up and riding the wave. I'll have that video posted tonight.
I been not only playing around with that with my motion controller, but if you use the new goggles 2 you can look all around or focus on something while flying the drone in a slightly different direction. I don’t want to say in any direction, but you really get to take more advantage of that wide gimbal and see pretty well below you, while rising or looking to the left or right and above you pretty well while your Avata continues to fly in the direction set. Didn’t take me very long at all to adjust to the change. The circle is the direction your drone is heading and the + is where your gimbal is facing. Takes some getting use to, but I love it. It is going to be a while till me and many others get the Controller 2, so this is all we have till that fine day. Gotta love it!
Also, I've been flying with the Motion Controller only. Speaking of diving, I found that if you do a spiral dive down with head tracking you get some beautiful video from that. The motion from the spiral sort of makes you forget you aren't going straight down like a normal FPV drone.
Dude, I started doubting the flight controller for getting super cinematic shots like you can get in manual mode, but you showed me that it's possible. Keep making more of these
Hey Stewart, I want to thank you for the great reviews on the Avata, using the Motion Controller, I fear that most of the reviewers are in such a hurry to show us how great they are in Manual that they have failed the vast majority of the buyers of this drone, to get going in this new aspect for us. Most of us will never get that good but sure as Hell can enjoy this drone using the Motion Controller and you are showing us how. I was doing some of those dives the other day and my flying buddy just loved them and with what you have showed me today about the Head Tracking feature they will get better. So a big thanks to you personally and a big Boo to the rest of those guys. Keep your RC Controller, I will probably get one but not soon.
Faxx. Everyone showing off the drone. Even showing how the Battery pops out during the smallest crashes, but nobody gave a method to keep it from happening.
I watch these videos for the Contant, and to learn techniques and tips. But I greatly enjoy the commentary and the humourous aspect as well. I generally don’t watch as many long videos, but I find these very enjoyable from start to finish. I learn a bit, laugh a bit, and find it is always time well spent. Thank you!
Thanks Stewart. Your demonstration of 'Head Following' was great. The DJI videos were not that clear. I was really amused watching you get so excited. Mine is on order. I'll pick it up next month when I'm in the States.
After watching this i think i will get one with the new goggles. Looks like fun. I fave fun with the regular FPV drone but this looks more fun and the video looks amazing. Thanks for the review.
Wow! I remember watching your videos on the Mini 2 and I was sold. I’ve got the same feeling after seeing this video. One of your best! might be worth a doing some wind farm runs when you finally decide to go manual (god speed).
I watch all your videos and love your personality and way of explaining things… And watching this video hearing your laughter and roar with excitement as you flew the Avata made me giggle! 👍🏻
No turning back from the dark side now. You might as well start setting up a soldering station, watching JB videos and looking at carbon frames now. You are so fortunate living in such a beautiful place to fly.
Ha! Well I'd better learn to fly better in manual mode first! For sure, the locations are stunning. Just a cheeky little 4-7 hour drive from our house mind you!
Answering your question. Yeah it's a good content. Got very happy to know that i'll be able to fly it as a fpv out of the box. As far as a have no experience on the fpv world though. Thanx for sharing
those connection issues are a real dealbreaker, people are saying even with the FCC mod they are still losing connection the moment they fly near an obstacle. thanks for the honest and thorough review!
Awesome location & video you i enjoy flying the Avata a lots even its slower than the FPV it allows to go place without the fear of destroying the drone. Keep up the good work!
Definitely worth not taking the youtube "auto" resolution, but clicking it up all the way to 4k to watch that awesome location! Great video. What camera were you using for the narrator / cut away shots?
Nice video Stuart had 2 flights with mine first time doing fpv. what a blast this thing is heading up the faroe islands in 2 weeks hopefully my flymore kit arrives in time hopefully get some nice shots when I am up there
@@DroneFilmGuide yeah got 1 Stuart. The mini 3 will be my main weapon of choice weather permitted but hopefully be having fun with the avata on the cliffs
I'm glad someone has created a dive with the motion controller, I've search through a few video's yours is the best, but from what I've seen it doesn't really dive at a drop only at a like 25 degree tilt, would you agree, so flying down a straight shaft isn't really possible is it? Thanks for the video .
I suspect that those cliffs are laden with iron, which is probably why you were losing signal strength, iron is going to block the signals strength and interfere with the transmission.
I just got mine guyyyss!!!! Hahaha actually by the time that we go to the store i really wanted to get the mini 4 pro but i really want the drone with goggles and for some reason the price of this drone drop 😂 it seems like i get a good deal 🎉🎉🎉🎉
6:15 For those interested, this track is called Open Road by Chester Malone. Great video, Stewart. Is that motion controller easy to get to grips with?
For this type of cinematic flying, in my opinion the motion controller is the preferred option. Flight is smoother probably because it is less responsive than the regular controller. Unless I've missed something, with the regular RC you can only tinker with the rates for manual mode, i.e. the responsiveness of normal and sports mode is set. If the goal is sharp turns and especially flips and dives then of course you need the regular RC but for smooth flight (albeit limited to 30mph), in my opinion, motion controller is the way to go.
@@DroneFilmGuide I am not interested performing flips and sharp turns. My interest is in a smooth cinematic look. Thanks for your quick reply. My Avata will be at my door by Sept 25th. Can't wait. Keep up the great content.
Love it! I suppose you could add a wee bit of speed ramping in post to really sell the "dives", but they look pretty spectacular just as presented here.
Great video my friend I need to know I don’t have a computer all I have is an iPhone. Does this thing need to be hooked up to a computer to get going because I only have an iPhone so I like to know if I have all I need here at home. Thank you.
It's not the drone that has the behind-the-rock connection problem, it is the motion controller. From what I've seen, the two-stick controller 2 has a stronger signal.
Hey Steven. At 8:55 and 10:58 you can see in the telemetry it's the image transmission that's the issue with the goggles-t0-drone connection. RC signal is a full 5 bars. It's because the European drones are hobbled by the CE standard that caps the signal strength for video transmission.
Hi. Got my avata and I fly it around the neighbourhood and get a pretty decent range almost same as my mini 4 pro. When you were flying around the rocks you only got 130 meters before signal get bad. Im in FCC canada and I wonder if you are in CE europe country
I am just curious, Can you fly your drone relative to the controller while moving your head around? Like can you look right via headtracking while the drone continues cruising forwards? Can head tracking work like a gimbal thats independent of the drone?
Appreciate these fantastic videos of the Avata, thank you 👍 can I ask where in Scotland you filmed this? I'm in Stirling and hoping a wee visit could be in order lol!
Here's the road that gives access to the first location (58.465292649712694, -4.896524296634577) and here's the second location (57.92591594129654, -5.222301449807742). As you can see, I took the idea of flying in isolated spots quite seriously!
I don't know but I'd be surprised if it matters. With CE video transmission here in Europe a paper bag would obstruct the signal TBH. Unsurprisingly, a hack has already been found to switch the transmission to FCC.
while diving or doing any steep descent, does the camera (because it's tilted down so much) capture the frame of the drone in the shot? It looks like it does while looking through the goggles but not sure if the actual video captures that. If so, is there a setting to limit the gimbals downward travel to avoid capturing the drone's body in the shot
Is there a way to delete the camera and gps subtitles? When I uploaded the footage it has a lot of those and I just wanted just the video so I can post it and stuff
That arrow actually help climb and dive in a steaper angle, when climbing or diving with the motion controller, when that arrow appears pull/push the controller more until the arrow is highlighted 👍
Use the charger from the Fly more Kit with a 65w charger (I got an ONN from Walmart here in the US). With that setup it will charge in about 30 minutes or less.
Doesn;t make sense to me that the mini pro 3 is faster out of the box then the Avata out of the box with motion controller. Locking up half the speed behind a 200 dollar accessory and not telling us before we buy it left a bad taste in my mouth. I love the drone, just think it should be faster with the motion controller.
Hey Stewart great videos 🤜🏼🤛🏼 have you got any further with the signal problem ? Iv had mine out in Mugdock park (you maybe know it) the last 3 mornings and I’ve Literally got 150m away go behind a tree and it’s gone . Actually scared to fly the thing haha . And that’s me tried 2 of the hacks . Still crap signal 😓
Hey! Haven't tried the hacks. But indeed, as you can see in the 2nd half of the video, the video transmission is certainly a limiting factor in CE regions.
