Compared to the stock antennas, this setup's doing alright, but I'm not thrilled since it starts losing signal after 4.5 km. (At that range, the stock antennas show 0 Mbps, while the X-Air is still kicking at around 20 Mbps.) Thinking of giving those 3-turn helical antennas a shot soon!
Yep, it was pretty intense, but that's exactly why I dig those test fields. Easy to bounce back if you stumble. Thanks, bro, appreciate hearing that! 🙏 Take care!
Half a year ago I watched this video from my favorite among long-rangers (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bGhLFI0hHTg.html), and I knew that the battery can fly relatively long with low voltage with reduced throttle, but this is not the case where one of the six battery cells "died" during the flight. Fortunately, the defect did not worsen further. I expected the voltage drop to be even faster than it actually was. I saw the title of your last video in the notifications, I'm very interested, but I'll watch it when I have time. I'm in a rush now. Fullsend 8000mah, li-ion
Hey, so here's the scoop: There are a couple of reasons why the signal dropped during that maneuver (good eye catching that!). First off, it's probably because of how the antennas are positioned on this drone. When it twists and turns, it takes a bit for the signal to steady itself. That's just my hunch though, I don't have the exact details either. And honestly, I'm not sure if it's better to turn fast or slow in those situations. Now, onto reason number two: I goofed up by facing the wrong way towards the drone. I had some tractors passing by me when I was about 2 km out, so I had to make room for them to pass. While doing that, with the Goggles on, I accidentally turned away from the drone. The drone ended up being about 25-35 degrees off from the antenna's coverage beam. (those antennas cover 120 degrees)
Hey, thanks for the comment man! I picked this spot because it's perfect for range testing without any signal interference and there's no risk of damaging property or hurting anyone. No, DJI didn't sponsor me or cover my travel. I'm doing this on my own to give you guys honest info and help out the community. What antennas do you use for your drone? P.S. Just to add, it's mentioned in the description that this isn't a range test, but rather an antenna comparison. Cheers, man!
