DJI launches the Mavic Pro 

Karma doesn't come with a go pro from what I've heard i could be wrong though.

The basic one, it doesn't. The combo that does, the price is similar to the Mavic. I'll go for the Mavic for the range, and the Karma to use the Gopro in other stuff (like scuba diving). Hard decision.

You can see restricted airspace in the DJI go app when you turn your drone on

I use airnav.com, enter the airport code in there and you will get the information plus if you click on VFR sectional chart you will see the whole area with all designated airspaces. It is good to know if you are operating within a vicinity of an airport. The fact that you can't see the airport does not mean that you are not in its airspace. It is a good idea to learn classes of airspace. There are over 5000 airports in the US and over 3000 are uncontrolled, so if you are near an airport it does not mean that you can't fly close to it either. The only way to know if the airport is controlled or not is by looking at the VFR sectional chart (or consulting an app)

Karma has better camera, END OF THE POINT... This PRODUCT is for filmmakers not to comun people, the filmmaker wants better optical, better format to shoot at the same time, better stabilizer,etc...

they are not targeting filmmakers anymore but a domestic users. If you want better optical, p4 stills beat the fisheye karma, not to mention the features

Pawan Thapa no i can see fine.... there has to be a trade off... they would not release a drone that better than the 4 for a cheaper price... I was asking what that trade off is. I'm guessing image quality.

yeah the camera sensor is smaller than on the P4, and when cropped in you can see a difference in clarity and sharpness in detail. But to be honest its not a huge difference at all when considering how much smaller and cheaper it is to the P4. I think DJI have essentially cannibalised their own product range to better compete with the new emerging consumer market of drones, which is a bit lame for people who've already invested in P4's, but a pretty amazing advance in the drone world

I agree with ANT1PK. Definitely not a huge difference. After all we are not going to create a Hollywood block buster out of it. Even Parrot Bebop has a decent stabilized HD video. No problem in P4 too if you like to carry that huge case with you or if you just want to fly from the car park you just parked. But for the hikers or if you are carrying DSLR and lenses, MAVIC will just be a little weight extra on the side of your backpack added on your trip.

No you do not have to register. That is a suggestion not a law.

ReverseCycoIogy I see where you're coming from. But if you have a GoPro already, you can already get the land, and sea footage, I also have a DJI phantom but this is a much smaller package making it more convenient .

I think it was expected of DJI to come out with a smaller drone then GoPro. They've been making drones for years..

How so? The Karma is $800 + the price of a camera and provides less features. The only advantage would be the handheld stabilizer and that you would have a GoPro.

+Joseph McDade And for some that's a big selling point. Yes the Maverick is the superior drone but that's really all it is. All the money for a single piece of equipment. Now with Karma the drone cannot out perform the Maverick but at least I will also be adding a stabilizer and a water proof action camera to my disposal for the same price. So yeah I'd probably be better off with the Maverick but I'm a huge GoPro fan and look forward to getting the Karma one day..

Yes it will be great for what you mention. But I do plenty of work for local business with my Phantom 4 and supposedly the Mavic has the same camera configuration with a smaller FOV. So when you consider that fact one might gather hopes that this can also work for my work with local businesses and provide the same quality of work and output. Thanks for the reply though

I do a number of different things. I shoot vlogs that I call Danny Docs, and for that the Mavic would be absolutely perfect. But I also shoot real estate, local commercials for small businesses, and other creative work. so this is both a personal tool for creativity but also a tool for a successful business. I've more or less come to the conclusion after seeing some more video comparisons that I need the P4..Mavic just isn't as crispy especially when zooming in/cropping at all. Meaning I will have to earn the Mavic so that I can have both ;)

Rahsaan thomas you are completely wrong. The Mavic will be doing plenty of commercial work. I shoot video for snowboard/ski/snowmobile videos and the Mavic will immediately be replacing my Phantom 4. The amount of work in the commercial market the Mavic can do is a lot, you really don't know what you are talking about at all

Because it has a detachable gimbal? I don't think most drone pilots are going to care about that. Plus the GoPro fish eye is a no no for videographers who aren't using an action camera.

$800 + camera is going to be more expensive than this at $1000. How is it a better value?

This thing has to have lightbridge. No wifi signal and a controller that small will get you 7km of range. I wouldn't trust GoPro anyways. I'm not 100% but I think you have to buy the $400 hero 5 separately to even fly the drone with a camera feed. DJI for $200 more built a better drone and a camera built in.

Does the P4 ajust the height when flying up a hill? No! Does it fly for 26 minutes on one battery? No! Does it take a picture from the starting point so that it can autoland precise on that same spot? No! Does it interact when you wave at it and make a selfie? No! Are the batteries cheap as from the mavic? No! Is it as compact as the mavic? No! does it avoid and go around obstacles by itself? No! Does it have a flight range of 7 kilometres? No! Dude, this mavic is way better than the entire phantom series, and it is that i already bought a P3 last year, or else i would by this mavic as soon it hits the market. And i even might concider to sell my P3 and by a mavic anyway.

well, that are just tiny differences, and it's not F1 racing, so who cares witch one is a few mph faster or slower? And only a die hard video freak wil notice the difference between the cams, so people who love the compactnes of the mavic, wil sell their Phantom and buy a mavic. Also for the other things i already wrote, so this is going to sell like hot cakes!

Things are looking great for GoPro. DJI cheaped out on the camera and it takes blurry video.

Not really. The Mavic is like the 8 tails and the Karma is like the 9 tails.

It actually does compare quite nicely even. The only thing GoPro really has over this one is a detachable gimble that can be used for other types of recording but as a pure drone, this one is actually better in every way.
