Yeah im trying to figure out the capability of this drone with FocusTrack. What is the top speed it can follow me on a motorcycle? With & without obstacle avoidance. And what do all the modes mean? Spotlight? Trace?
In trace mode, the clue is in the action, "Trace" the drone wants to trace the movemnets of your car, "copy" wheres as parrellel mode its only tracking the target, and not trying to copy the movements or route of the tracing..
I would NEVER suggest to remove the sticks, and cover your screen, OR put the controller in a inaccessible spot just in case something happens where you need to regain control. YOU are going to be the reason something happens to someone. Terrible advice...
That's not parallel! We can see always the back of the car. How about sideways and then higher and further away? That would be a cool move! But it's not easy to make.
Oh man, thanks so much for this video! I am a hiker in Australia just starting out my channel and I just got a Mavic Air 2 to help improve my video quality. The Active track is the biggest thing I want to use. Your video was so easy to understand and has really helped me get my head around it! I came across your video just by looking for Active Track videos, but now you've gained another follower :) Thanks again! :)
Nice video. You must be on a private road...as FAA specifically decries flying your drone while driving - it is a no-no. If you ever try to get a Part 107 FAA license you may encounter a question about the legality of driving while flying. I did. And you are promulgating this bad practice for others. Bad JuJu. But you did make a nice video. Maybe let some else drive? Be careful! You are a public representative of drone use.
In parallel mode the drone recognise a vehicle by its two wheels while in trace mode it need to decipher an amorphic figure which take more computing time. Thats my explanation.
I have the same drone Thank you for your instruction on FollowMee mode ! As far as crashing your drone, I’ve had many drones My last few two and $300 drones one of them I giveaway because i felt responsible for not tightening the prop down on the drone that my friend owned so I just gave him my drone. And the other one on the second flight just flew away lol bye bye $200. However my Mavic air two when I flew it inside of Lowe’s one evening, I was doing great until I got back to the back of the store and I got nervous and started to drift into one of the pallet racks it was not pretty! I mean it must’ve hit every bar in every piece of wood on the way down flipping and turning in all I was frozen I couldn’t move. It was my fault I got nervous and push the stick the wrong way. However The drone held up very well I had to change out a propeller only because it was nicked and I didn’t feel like sanding it out. Overall I am pretty happy with that drone . Thanks again. You be my go to mavic tech😀
I already know about the quality, performance and features of the Mavic Air 2 build, photography quality, and the DJI Fly app. But have not taken off due to not mastering the flight parameters like?
Parallel mode won't work like that. Once you start moving, the drone will fall off to the side. You will need one of the newer drones that can track from any position.
14:36 just had the courage to take out my drone the other day 😂 thanks a mill can't wait to track myself on a hike ..how are you drawing the green box with your finger on the screen ? Thanks for showing us this ..really clear 😊& helpful
Thank you for making this video! There was so much good information in here. I was on the edge of my seat when your MA2 almost crashed into that pole. I was using active track and had something similar happen..Except my did not register these tiny tree branches and crashed right into them. I’m from the Midwest and dream of having awesome places to fly like you do. Great content. Happy flying!
Thank you so much. I saw that pole coming and kind of closed my eyes while I was driving. Good thing no other car were around. Tiny branches are the worst. Come Autumn, the tiny branch crashes will go up.
15:30.... I wonder if this guy realized just how close that was... They have no lateral sensors and it locked out it didn't hit that pole.... I've done that a couple times with power lines.
Hi,was Watching you flying the DJI mavic at the park.My little advice is for you to fly a drone over everything like 350ft to 400 ft hi over Everything. The drone is meant to track you anywhere so if you fly it higher 300 to 400 ft' in the sky then your drone we be OK for good. I love your video and am going to buy one too. Be careful out there bro. Thanks Prince
For me this feature is not working properly. When I do parallel tracking the drone just follows behind the vehicle same as in trace mode. Anyone else having the same issue?
More tips passed on thanks 👍. At times my Air2 will not recognise me on the motorcycle with the black box popping up the same as you. If I stand away from the bike , draw the box around me, get back on and stand up as I ride away, it follows me consistently. Flying in open fields I’m getting the drone up to 20mph and 30 mph in sport but I can only do that in short bursts as the fields aren’t big enough. I need to go out an find some trails to test again 🤞
What do you think of this? I don’t get the icon at the base of the green box, my firmware is up to dated. But I did it though my iPhone via the app, it’s still temperamental and unreliable. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NrhZHj3C0UQ.html
I suspect that the parallel mode is faster because the colllision sensors aren't pointed in the direction of travel, so it isn't being as cautious. No collision sensors on the sides. Be careful!
The Air 2 will not stay in front of the subject autonomously. You can start it there, but once you start moving forward, it will fall off to thd side. So far, only the Mavic 3 can be set to a certain angle.
I am trying to film myself with the Air 2, however it is not possible to use active track and raise the gimbal so the head is in the shot. It is not possible to select only the head but it selects the whole body. I suppose it is not meant to be used so close to the subject, but I have no one else to help me. :)
Wow! That last roundabout was fantastic! It's that sideways flight that comes with the "Parallel" mode that will eventually get you (I hope not). You did a great job of testing it man, you had me on the edge of my seat a couple of times round those poles and trees! I have not had the time yet to use the tracking very much yet on my Air 2, but this will give me some confidence to try.
When the drone lost you when you were going too fast does it stop and hover at that point? Do you have to stop the truck and manually fly the drone closer to the truck and restart the tracking mode?
Your follow speed is much different than other information I have seen, but I would have to go back and find the video or info that states much faster follow speeds....Hell, 14mph would be on ly good for a person walking, hiking or riding a bicycle slowly....and you can forget about it following a car, truck, motorcycle, jet ski or boat....Check out Justin Hill's speed test video....I don't think there is any pop-up warning telling him the speed is too much to follow...
@@uosocal OK and I apologize about the Justin Hill video because it seems he was not using an intelligent follow or flight MODE...he was moving the drone manually which means a speed of 42mph is doable....but I did see other videos with Active Track going at higher speeds I believe
Hate how trace mode doesn't follow in the center of the subject.Tracing the subject to the right increases the chances of an accident. In fact thats how I crashed my MA1
I totally agree with your point of view. In the first part of this video if the Active Track software used a mechanism to analyze the tracked object path and follow the objects path more accurately especially in this instance avoiding the light poles wouldn’t have been an issue.
I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing it. I am starting to get into the DJI quick shots and extra features so I appreciated this. It was informative.
Good tip about putting the drone in parallel. I have a lot of problems with tracking on my bike. It is poorly recognised. It knows people and cars. Motorbikes don't. I'm going to try it in parallel mode. Thanks. And I'll be in touch. Greetings krazyklaas.
I have a note 10 plus with an otter box, I can't seem to get the included cable to plug in using the case so I always have to take it off. Are you using a different cable or did you do something to the otter box?
I have the same phone. I have the otterbox as well. I also have a rokform mount on the back of it. It doesn't fit well in the remote with both of those things on.
@@uosocal I decided to go ahead and get the iPad mount for the controller as each time I put my phone in with the case off it peels back my screen protector. But didn't know if I was just not doing something right lol
I think to by DJI Mavic 2 is it best options in class.. don't need professional.. but also won't to make great video.. Also looking program for processing data.. thx in advance
Great video I've had this drone for probably a year and still didn't even know I could do any of this with it. Super excited to go outside and mess with the settings definitely subscribing very educational.
It’s not as developed yet the follow me mode in this model. I have the same model and it gets very scary close to light posts and trees and mine did crash into a tree in broad daylight with follow me mode. I suggest letting someone else drive and you be on standby when letting the drone follow you by itself.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Thought I had it down pat but it would not work. Came home viewed your instructions again and realized I was in tripod mode. Went out immediately and followed your instructions and bang it worked perfect. Keep doing what you’re doing. Again thanks.
I have the same drone and it tracks better in parallel mode because the profile of your vehicle in this case is a larger image for the drone to see and lock on to while following.
Great vid mate, wow 15-40 holy sht that's a lot of lamp posts (UK ) that Mavic is well on it's way to re-hab !!!. Thanks for that, well helpful, be safe mate.
This is very frustrating for me. No matter how many times I tap the object on the screen, I don't see any green frame appear like in the video to activate the active track or anything. What else do I have to do? Thanks.
Thanks! I bought this drone based on your recommendation so I could record myself zipping around in my Prius. So today I did what you did and got the drone to lock onto me as I was sitting in my Prius. I drove to get some cigs and left the drone in the air as I walked into Circle K. When I came out the drone was still there. So then I decided to zip around the city waving at friends. When I got home the drone was nowhere to be seen. You cost me almost $2k. I’m devastated.
That's not great. If you weren't monitoring the drone, the battery got to low to keep following you. It should have returned to its home point automatically. Did you go back and look where you originally launched it?
17:30 You can turn the phone off, without problems. Atleast for Android phones. The activetrack will still follow. When mountainbiking, I can start activetrack. Turn phone off.. put remote with phone (screen off) into back back and start biking. Perhaps an update since your video. Tx for the video btw.
Great info on the tracking. I had thought parallel mode would have the drone be going parallel with the object as it did towards the end of the video. However the only issue would be is that the sides of the drone does not have the obstacle sensors and can crash into a light pole or higher tree
Parallel mode is more light angular mode. I think that way the front sensors can still see most of the objects in front. Even though my Mavic 2 Zoom did pretty much the same thing in Parallel mode.
Thank you for this video.. Just like you I occasionally(or did) have difficulty locking on while using Active track. As your video clearly shows, you have to form a proper box around the subject and then you'll see either little man or little vehicle at bottom of green square.. Happy out now, Thank you..👏👏
Reason the drone tracks faster in parallel mode is I’m sure probably because when it’s seeing your car on the side it’s more surface area for camera to lock onto to follow as opposed to just the back of your car. Also top speed in normal mode is limited to about 20 or 22 mph
Good stuff. Had my Mavic for 5 years and just got into off-roading last year. You mentioned that ND filters are not recommended in tracking mode due to shady spots, but what if I’m taking it to a place with little or no shade? Example Anza or Johnson Valley?
@@uosocal so did you have to get a faa license because you are flying it commercialy? I just want to fly my drone for fun. I know I have to register it if it's 250 grams. But I'm not looking to have to study for a test just to fly a drone lol. I get it for safety reasons but drones are meant for fun
This is impressive, but man I don't think I could do it like this. Gave me anxiety watching all those light poles fly by next to the drone. I'll probably just use it for hikes and slow driving where there's not many poles or trees.
It does a great job flying around that stuff. Insurance helps the anxiety. In the year I owned the drone, I only had one crash. It was minor. Flew sideways into a bush.
I believe the speed difference with Active Track in parallel mode is because the drone is unable to track potential objects to avoid in parallel mode. This causes the tracking software to believe it is safe to fly faster because of fewer obstacles. BE CAREFUL IN PARALLEL. The Air 2 does not have side sensors or cameras so while you luckily didn’t hit a light pole with this video. I would feel safe wagering if you did this same test 10 times you would either hit one of the light poles or scare yourself enough to realize that the better speed is because the drone falsely is operating as if those obstacles do not exist.
Great video but I have a question about the Active Track. If you were to go into follow me mode and if you were to imagine you were in the center of a clock, will it only track at the 12, 6 3 and 9 o'clock positions, or can you program it to follow at any angle like 1 o'clock or 8 o'clock postion? Thanks.
I had a lot less luck with parallel mode. I specifically think curves cause the unit some issues. I really hope they try to improve the parallel mode though, because it makes for amazing shots!
Excellent vid n info... thanks! I'm looking to get a Mini 2 (no self-tracking or obstacle avoidance ) or Mavic Air 2... I think. Stupid question... so you can NOT set a minimum altitude of say 40' or 50' while you're doing 'testing' like this? Maybe such a distance automatically negates the ability to track?
Yea, you definitely had a lot of obstacles to miss. Those light towers, trees, all the power poles and light poles...lots of close calls. seemed like to me anyway. surprised me that it seemed to want to fly close to them instead of directly behind you which would have been more open. I suppose if the drone was directly behind you at the beginning, it would have done that but it was at an angle from the start. I'll experiment with that. Thanks for making the video.
It works fine for me when its following me from behind. But if it's infront of me and i run towards it, it keeps loosing me. In other words it doesn't go backwards fast enough
Thank you for the clear and demonstrative video. Q: Can we update the " Home Point "in mavic air 2 to another point far from the taking off point ? so if we were driving like you, for example. Could we land it on the round-about, far from the taking off point? thank you
@@uosocal Hello and thank you for the reply. I tried something and it worked so far. Basically, when I reach the max distance "restricted to 500m in Dubai" i change the home point to set it at the remote, and i keep doing that every 500m unfortunately. This might be a work-around that dynamic home point in the Mavic Air 2. thank again man. cheers
I thought it would have done better. Especially able to track at least 20mph. I would love to use for taking shots while out riding but would need it to be be able to do 30mph
That walk through the woods was interesting. Was curious as to how good that will do. I want to take my drone disc golfing and I like how it’s going to follow and avoid trees extremely well. Just wish the active tracking could track a disc.. Idk why it can’t, especially if it’s a bright color completely different than the contrast of the grass and trees..
