RULE # 1. NEVER EVER do range test over WATER. RULE # 2. ALWAYS Look for wind direction. RULE # 3. Whenever in trouble NEVER RAISE the drone. (wind is stronger the higher you go) There's more, but those are my first thoughts for flying drones. Really sad video, but thanks for sharing. We learn from our mistakes, remember that.
You have to watch carefully. When the drone gave you the high wind warning if you notice the camera dipped because the drone already sped up on its own. And you still had 10 minutes of flight time you should have left it alone and not gone into sport. Because the moment you went to sport mode your flight time went down to 4 minutes. You weren't in danger of not making it back. So the two mistakes you made were going into sport mode and raising the altitude. Because raising the altitude probably caused you even more wind resistance.
How much experience do you have with DJI drones? You might have made it back if you had pushed up on the left stick for a while at the end. Or maybe you wanted to lose it? In which case, you could have donated it.
Never bring it back in sport mode unless you less than 500m. Next time use return to home as soon as you turn around So you can get the most accurate route back to land. Remember the last 10% of battery 🪫 the drone power will reduce by half so even the slightest wind 🌬 will drift the drone away or sometimes cuz the drone to stop moving even if your pushing on the forward-stick
WHY did you do a range test over the sea 1. its illegal to fly beyond vlos 2. you might lose your drone 3. its a dangerous and also illegal 4. your dji care refresh will not cover damages to my knowing. edit: battery voltage matters more then the % some people report flying at 0% for very long times but some people say its false, its depends. on your battery VOLTAGE. always check voltage if it seems like your battery is dying quicker. at 7 volts *for both cells* the drone will force land. also always trust the RTH when over water
Your mistake was to come back in sport mode, which requires a lot of electricity. Also, you could have pushed the drone up for about 50 seconds before it went into the water
I don’t know what you expected, high wind warning and you took it higher and kept it in sports mode 🤦🏻♂️ - if you’d have dropped the altitude and changed to normal you might have stood a chance. A slim chance, but here’s a lesson on how to throw $500 into the ocean 🌊 ⚠️ 😬
Why did you haven't promptly cancel the forced landing? The battery had still 1 minute of fly, and if you switch in normal mode, probably was 2 minutes or more (voltage raise switching low consmpt) for flown at 2m hight and maybe save it
You could have pushed up and still maintain the altitude and the speed even at such low battery percentage. the was a possibility that it could have been saved because even at 0 percent it gives you about 3mins extra. i saw you made a lot of mistakes in this one but hopefully you can do your research and you've learnt from this
at 0% the battery is at 3.5v, you can probably fly another 1/3 of the time you were out flying. It's just that anything after 0% you WILL damage your battery
Always fly Into the wind, never over water without experience, stay high for better signal, stay low for less wind. Sport mode uses up the battery a little sooner. Always start with 100% battery.
You also coud angle it more aideways toward land to gain better speed and less forward wind, this can also help get it to the shore, always check your compass to check wind angle

Amigo la próxima vez tienes que tener más paciencia y dejarlo en Normal Mode y bajar la altitud. También prestar atención a cuanta batería tienes. Yo perdí 2 drones DJI FPV, uno lo choqué y el otro perdí la señal y cayó en el agua con una Gopro Hero 10 agarrada. Así que se lo que se siente. Voy a hacer un video de esa última que fue recientemente. Suerte volando!
Sorry you lost it. It's best to keep it in normal mode, and lower your altitude. When battery is critically low you can still push forward (even when the battery shows to be 0%). You might have made it.
Me same in January 26 Hong Kong, sciences park ,i fly my mini 2 . i use a extra battery 3600 mAh ,after fly about 500 meter, suddenly dark screen,i wait about 20 mins no RTH,i think my mini 2 is fall into the sea.the reason is i haven't close the cover 100%.
That's tragic! You should stay lower than 10M but instead you went up high as 68M that made your speed to almost zero. That move drains your battery because of strong winds at that altitude.
Never trust water as the inertial system doesn't perform on water the same way it does on solid ground along with the sensor used for the ground landing, you need to make sure you're higher than 50 m to be safe, and alwYs make sure the RTH is the setting for list connectoo ,never ever hovering or you will lose your drone, home landing should also be updated as if you move while flying your drone, your drone should be updated on the new home landing spot, use sport mode if you're manually overtaking control to return home or evade some area withn threatening birds, and finally calibrate all your stuff, all, and also fly with gps never without, and do check your settings before you fly, thnx for sharing.
tenias posibilidad de salvarlo lo dejaste bajar. sabes que puedes hacer que suba cuando esta así? solo tenias que darle hacia arriba al joystick tan pronto lo suetas vuelve a bajar pero todavía en o% de batería vuela un rato más yo pienso que alomejor a las piedras lo podías llevar y buscarlo en un Kayak.

Start backwind and return headwind ... over sea.. a disaster waiting to happen. I just started to fly drones, but that would be a setup i would never take. Felt terrible to see that drone getting closer and closer to the water... and gonna feel terrible total day now .. haha. Dont give up and dont go anyway near that water again... better walk 2 miles into a forrest and be able to find it then ....water....

Si lo dejaba en normal mode llagaria a home pero lo cambiaste a sport mode se te gasto la bateria mas rapido que en normal y estaba volando con el viento empujandote pues la bateria sete gasta mas rapido. Tenia que dejarlo en normal mode y volar bajito que el viento es mas fuerte en lo alto.

because you did not understand the lower altitude means to resume the signals and that is your mistake. You have to trust your GPS signals what they say. My drone is DJI Mini 3, I experienced that but my drone coming back to me because I monitoring the battery level. when I get 50 to 45 percent of battery level I go back immediately to home base and I select sport mode and I guide my drone to go back immediately to be safe. its okey, Just learned by your mistake !! Dude, you literally did almost EVERYTHING you could to ensure you lost that drone. Went out with the wind .. Failed to turn around at recommendation and absolute worst of all ignored the recommendation to lower altitude. Not only were you flying into the wind but you raising altitude into higher headwinds. Not trying to pile on but you clearly had no business trying a range test without basic understanding of conditions/ limitations.
