DJI Mini 2 SE Complete Flight Test and Review!

In this video we get the first look and first flight test of the DJI Mini 2 SE. I demonstrate the Boomerang and Helix QuickShot feature. I show the Automatic Exposure Bracketing (AEB) for photos, and also take a 180° and Wide-angle panorama pictures. The video was shot in 2.7K 30 fps. I also did some speed tests in normal, sport, and cine modes. The best part of this drone is the $339 price point. I hope you enjoy this first flight!

Specs say the Mini 2 SE video bitrate is 40 mbs, not 100 mbs. Where did you get 100 from?

I saw that on DJIs website too. I quoted the 100 mbs from a Drone XL article. I checked one of the video files, and you are correct. It is 40 mbs. Thank you, I likely would have missed that if not for your comment.

@@MatanumiYes they're smaller and it's not great for using if you're a content creator. I only bought it because i wanted one with the same speed and live view as the mini 2 and mini 3 i'm just flying it for fun 😅 Next drone will probably be the DJI FPV with the goggles with a top speed of 140km/h

Marcus, Very nice. As they say, you get what you pay for. Buy quality products and you can expect quality. I was actually thinking about getting the Mini2 SE to replace my original Mini but decided not to. The original mini is a little tank and still performs perfectly. If it is windy or I need 4K or better quality I can go Phantom or Air 2S but I still enjoy the little mini a lot. So much fun just to fly. I think DJI outdid themselves in the mini category across the board. Thanks for sharing.

Wonders come in small packages. Today happened upon a yt vid of the new mini 4 pro at $1100. Intrigued searched online and happily DJI made this cheap chipper. Watched DJI flights since many years ago. Considering your package or fly more. I expect to be a casual flyer, with 0 experience. Edit - your flight time on a single charge is? Alien Drone says more akin to 17 mins & tried the Atom SE?

You can expect about 18 to 20 minutes of flight time with the Mini 2 SE. While the Atom SE and Atom have a lot of features, it's tough to beat DJIs quality. They just work and work well.

I purchased a Mini 2 SE and a Samsung S21 because the phone was on the compatibility list at that time. I went to open the app yesterday and it failed. I uninstalled it and with the help of a DJI Rep, downloaded a new DJY FLY app right from the site. It fails to download. Rep advised that the phone is no longer on the compatiblity list.. WTF. If they think that will force me to get a new phone they are wrong. Trash day is tommorrow, that's where the bird is going. Bye DJI

I had the original mini se, then I thought I'd upgrade to the mini 2se not knowing it wasn't compatible with the Litchi app. The original mini se with the Litchi app was more capable, versatile and fun to fly. If I would have known, I wouldn't have bought the mini 2se.

Great little drone Marcus, i have the original mini 2 and only film in 1080p. I think it is fab and it saves a hell of a lot on sd card. Here is the funny part, when friends watch my videos they all say 4K makes such a difference. Little do they know it's 1080p. I personally cannot see a vast difference in 1080p and 4K, i have compared time and time again. So in ending, 1080p is more than good enough for my videos. Great review Marcus, but oops about the 100mbs and as i'm sure you know it's 40.

Hi , I am just waiting for my Mini 2 to be delivered, comes with two batteries, charger and cables spare props and a case so I am interested to see how these little beasts fly, It certainly moves smoothly , and it's Android compatible Yay!! On seeing your video I am confidently impressed with my purchase and can't wait to try it out . Impressive. Very solid "beginner" drone. Holds so still in the air you might think it's a camera on a gimble. Missing some "pro" features of DJI, but massively better than any 'toy' drone.

DJI is good and you can say enough I see DJI and all I see is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I build my own quads when I started out I first got a ZMR250 was pretty fast.. more of a racing quad than a kite flyer .. DJI make nice quads if you like floating around taking videos or pictures.. but for thrills and chills.. learn to build your own , it's pretty easy now days.. most stuff is plug and play.. my latest project is a 5" hyperlite called the Tooth Fairy... does around 112mph and I use the Skyzone 3D FPV Goggles super fun...

Very good video for someone, like me, who is thinking of starting a new hobby. What I didn't really understand was if the screen on the RC is included in the package or if it's an extra accessory. In one sequence you hold the RC and in the next there is a screen stuck in the RC. Clarification? Thanks! :-)

Hi Marcus, good review of the Mini 2 SE, you must have been up all night getting this video ready. I needed to do a Mini 2 SE firmware update with my Mini 2 SE before flying. The little guy got 28 satellites in a minute. Had a solid connection out over a mile. Since I may use the heavy Mini 1 Li-Ion batteries, I FAA registered my Mini 2 SE and put tail numbers on the drone. I love how these DJI drones work correctly right out of the box. Looking forward to seeing your little Mini 2 SE bird flying over the Snake River Canyon. BTW, I think that the maximum bit rate of the Mini 2 SE is 40Mb/s, not 100Mb/s.

I was told today that the (djI mini 2 se) has somthing called a geofence. Is there a way to find out before purchase the unit if I'm with in the fence or outside the fence. The reason is I'm 5 km from a small country airport. The path of the runway it right ouve my house. Thanks

I didn't understand most of what you said as you were speaking as if you were flying the Mini 2, You kept saying what this drone has that the mini 2 se doesn't have, but the title says mini se review and you introduced it as the mini 2 se. Idaho can you confirm the range on this drone? Are you saying that this drone has a range of 10km (6miles)? Meaning I can be roughly 5 miles away from my location and have no connectivity issues? Thanks!

What the manufacturer claims and what it will do are two different things. In a WiFi cluttered envrironment you'll only get about 1.5KM, much more in the open country.

Does the Mini 2 SE broadcast remote ID? If not will it require a module for Part 107.

No, it's an under 250 gram drone, so it is not required. If you fly under Part 107 for commercial use, you will need to add a module.

Im planning a backpacking trip to the White Clouds in early September near Challis Idaho. Have been researching drones and have been getting alot of great feedback on this particular drone. Really want to be able to capture the full beauty of the Big Boulder Chain Lakes as I have been backpacking there ever since I was 6. This drone seems small enough to add to my pack even in a case, and your video has sold me on all the features the Fly App has to offer. Im a newbie and have never owned a drone, so this seems like a great start with this model. If there is any other advice you have to offer, I'd greatly appreciate it! 😀

@@IdahoQuadcopter That looks great, and probably going to go with that now due to the higher video quality. I have a question in regards to the quickshot feature. Have you ever tried highlighting a small body of water such as a pond or small lake, and doing an orbit around it using a helix or a circle quickshot function? Or does it typically have to be a solid object such as a person, structure, or vehicle?

Thanks, Marcus! I always enjoy your videos! My first drone was the Mini. Despite the SE being DJI's bottom of the line product, it has impressive capabilities. One thing that you did this time, that I really liked was that you put the screen recording down in the corner of the video. It's neat to be able to see the drone's data as well as the video that the camera is capturing. i look forward to seeing your next video.

Your best bet is to contact DJO support and open a ticket. It could be a number of different things.

I sent back my potensic atom because the front arms broke. Did you have any problems with yours. DJI is probly alot more reliable?

I avoid hand landing however to do it you just need to keep holding the left stick down, and the drone will go into landing mode.

On my Mini 3p the video stops recording and closes the video file when I shut off the drone or controller. I don't know why it's different but I'm glad it is. I agree, this is a great beginner drone with good quality that someone can keep even if they decide to invest in the more expensive drones.

Supposedly the Mini 2 se has the 2.0 transmission system which is a huge plus in areas with a lot of interference. Between the signal and the price it looks like a winner.

So... good to see a more affordable Mini from DJI,but if DJI is trying to scoop up all the Holy Stone/Ruko/Contico/Potensic buyers, this "Everything Mini 2 is, but less" probably won't grab too many. The only people who realize it's value already HAVE a DJI Drone; probably a more advanced one. Do you know if this replaces the Mini/Mini SE? PS. Mavic Air 2 is discontinued 😢 probably slow sales and not compatible with the newer controllers as it was O2. Farewell my first full featured DJI!

@@Matanumi According to the Litchi forums the Mini 2 SE is not supported and the SDK is not out. I thought it would be similar enough to the other drones and hoped it would be supported out of the gate, but apparently not. Who knows if DJI will even release an SDK for it. I know it took DJI a long time to release the SDK for the original Mini 2... I find it odd that an SDK for the mini 3 and mini 3 pro have been released. It is also odd that both the mini 3 and mini 3 pro have an approved declaration of compliance for remote ID. As of today, the mini 2 se does not.

Great drone and excellent review. There are two things that are preventing me from buying this drone. The first is that there is no SDK available for third party apps like Litchi. The second is the fact that it is not standard remote ID compliant. If and when those two items are addressed I'll be buying this drone.

It always amazes me how perfectly flat a lot of American cities are, even though there's mountains in the distance. In Wales, while we have much shorter mountains comparatively, the whole country is basically completely hilly, you cannot escape the hills even in our capital, most hills in Wales are only around 400m-500m high with our highest mountain being 1085 metres high.

I ordered mine last week but release date wasn't until yesterday, so my delivery is expected on the 28th from Amazon. It's my first ever drone. I'm going travelling in the summer and wanted something to take so I thought I'd get the Mini 2 SE for my trip, so I wanted to get it now so that I could practice with it and get used to it. It looks to be a great little drone for a beginner like me. Looking forward to flying it.

Good choice. Be sure to get plenty of practice before you go. The idea is to get familiar enough with the controls that you don't have to think about what stick to move, your brain and hands are in sync so it becomes a natural function.

Thanks to you I am seriously considering the Mini 2. Your comment in regards to not losing signal near the cell tower could mean the DJI drones have better RF filtering which would reduce interference from other radio signals. The locations you choose to film and operate the drones is well thought out because you get to see the image quality of the drones camera.

I think what puts the thumbs down on the Mini SE vs. Mini 2 SE is the controller that comes with the SE (and I am pretty sure the only controller you can use on the SE) and the use of Wifi instead of Occusync. In my opinion, this Mini 2 SE should make for the end of the Mini SE production. I can not see any reason to order the Mini SE. Thanks for the great flight and information.
