I love my mini 2. I live in the woods. I actually crashed it hard into a tree, and it fell hard. I was so disappointed in myself. But……. The mini 2 survived, and zero damage! All the props are still perfect, it flys awesome, and the gimbal unblemished! The mini 2 can take a beating! I’m very impressed with it, and excited to watch more of you’re videos to learn more! Thanks for another awesome video!

I have Mini 2 but got an SE just to keep in the car in case I see something not to be missed. It is cheap enough to be a good stand-by drone. Yes, if you want to do a comparison, go for it.

He is right, the transmission is the biggest factor but the other thing that made me upgrade to the mini 2 is the zoom. The way I use mine that has been a big deal to me that wasn’t mentioned. Good review though.

I almost bought the DJI mini SE until I saw your video and thank god I did . Because of your video I picked up the DJI mini 2 definitely a step up in every way for not a big difference in price. It was definitely worth the extra cash. Its a much better drone then the SE model. Thank you for putting up great content and helping me out on my purchase Thank you so much.

About distance it is also important that you don't have some kind of electrical transmission line between, as it really interfere with Mini 1 a lot, so I guess it will be the same with Mini SE.

Bought a mini se as my first drone, I was limited in my budget. It has definitely held up great. I’m amazed at the camera resolution and stabilization.

i would recommend still the mini 2 :) definitely packs a punch in a small body. it's a bit pricey (here in AU) but with views and sceneries around, you'd definitely wants something to capture those without compromise. thanks for the informative and helpful videos as always, aldryn!

Thanks for the comparison. I have the Mini SE and your assessment is spot on. I am pleased with the JPEG quality as a beginner and have found the Se to be very stable even in mild winds. It is extremely easy to fly. I am looking forward to upgrading to the Mini 2 at some point. I have subscribed to your channel. Thanks again.

The mini 2 is just an awesome piece of kit. For the year that I've owned it I got my commercial lliscense and even made a profit off of some realtor neighbors of mine. Not to shabby for amateur

I get almost 5km range out of the original mini, the only thing preventing it going further is the battery, also let your battery cool down before recharging the battery and let the battery cool down after charging, that will prolong the battery life.

Just ordered a mini SE. I’ve never flown a drone and the few reviews say it’s a good beginner drone to start with. It will arrive tomorrow and I’m excited to get started flying and creating video and still photo content.

Wow, tech changes quickly. Picked up a Mini 1 at Costco, a couple weeks later saw the Mini 2 was available, returned the 1 (boxed) and got the Mini 2 bundle with 3 batteries (which I never use that many batteries, usually just 2) for $599 Black Friday 2020. 5:48 OK, I have that control.

I’m hoping for mini 3/mini 2s/or soon. I would rather have the newer controller and a hopefully obstacle avoidance sensor (front or rear). Don’t think SE version is the right fit other than the lower price. May get one just to play with and do the risky stuff.

Thanks for emphasizing the FPV range differences. Adding some slip-on Yagi antenna boosters to the Mini SE controller will yield a very similar FPV experience in most VLOS environments (based on my experience with the original MMini). But it's worth noting that you must face the Mini SE at all times beyond ~100m distance. That's not necessarily the case with the Mini 2 which allows you to remain steady out to full VLOS ranges (~400m) due to the superior Ocusync 2.0 connection. That really makes a difference in long sweeping shots on a beach (for instance) since any required body movements can become a distraction to smooth cinematography. Otherwise, the differences are minimal between the two drones, as Aldryn mentions.

Absolutely, OcuSync is a big deal, worth the money if you can afford it. The Mini2 also has the DJI SDK released now, providing some great options for extra nav features, soon.

-- First drone, arriving today in time for July 4th. DJI Mini 2. Spent some hours reading and watching tutorials about the drone. Think I have enough to give it a few flights, then bring it up a few hundred feet to pan around and record fireworks in the neighborhood. Not exactly my idea of baby steps, but up and down shouldn't be too tough.

The only downside with WiFi is interference..I’ve had that problem with my MavicAir before which I traded for the Mini2 ..I wouldn’t get one without occusync.I wish they’d uorgrade the mini with a follow me mode which would be awesome coz then it will be easier for mountain biking or kayaking ..without risking my more expensive MavicAir2..

Just to add - was also looking to purchase the SE over the 2 but in NZ the drone flying laws state that the drone needs to be within visual distance. Now since I already have the Maveric 2, I think the SE would be the better option for me as flying it further than 500m is a no go. I just want a drone that I can quickly deploy. Thanks for making it easier to decide

I just barely got my Mini 2, and it was a bit of a stretch, budget-wise, so I might have gone for the Mini SE instead, if I had known about it. Oh, well. I think I will be better off with the Mini 2 in the long run, though. So, I'm not too bummed about spending the extra cash. Thanks for the comparison!

long run yes, these arent racing/stunt quads. They are specifically for that front camera... Everyone claims that most people are using 1080p but in reality the vast majority of the world is still viewing content @720... So why do we need 4k? The truth is that consumption is done at 720p for the most part but we are talking content creation here. These quads are not for consuming, they are for creation. Ideally I would like 4k at 60fps but that price point moves more into the professional than the hobbyist. Lets be honest we are considering the SE and Mini 2 because we are hobbyist. So can we get away with 1080p? Yup, but it limits us in the edit room and that is why we are here looking at DJI. Doesnt matter if you know how to edit, you are atleast trying to kick that door open. Giving us the option for 4k is nice but truth be told that 2k 60fps is our sweet spot to get our videos edited and exported to 1080p or 720p for web consumption. Mark my words, you will grow into this quickly..... Now disregard everything I just said, maintaining a solid connection to your very expensive toy has to be worth atleast $150....

Yes, I was kinda worried when I saw the DJI SE, but I looked at the SPECS between SE and MINI 2, and the MINI 2 still a winner, but these are great for beginner drones.

The question is about the price gap. There is no doubt that the Mini 2 is a better drone, but the SE is still quite cheaper. So the question is, do I really need the extra options?

@@FedericoLucchi I was supposed to own a mini 2 but decided to go for the SE anyways. After months of using the SE, it's still a compact drone. but what I didn't like about it is that it's quite over sharpened, maybe too much noise reduction, no 4k, and more. I'm not saying it's bad though since it's really good for it's price overall. But again, after months of using it, I happened to regret not saving up a little bit more for the mini 2 (standard edition btw). Yes, I know that the SE just has the body of the mini 2 (except the front lights) but I wanted the 4k, Ocusync 2, and the remote control (seems way more compact to me) and plenty more. And about the price gap, I had the same thought as well. That's one of the reason why I chose the SE over the Mini 2 which I slightly regretted.

Since I use Mavic Mini as mapping trainer combined with dronelink. I would stick to my Mavic Mini until I can upgrade to Air2s or Enterprise edition, since as of now the Mini 2 has yet to receive SDK. 🤔

Thanks for this comprehensive comparison. I have the Mini 2 and I’m so glad I bought it before the Mini SE came out. As a budget conscious RU-vidr I tend to go the less expensive route, but the Mini 2 is worth every penny. As for the Air 2 S, I’m curious about it, but the restrictions are more stringent and therefore it might not make sense until I upgrade my license (Canada) to advanced.

OcuSync is indeed a big deal, and having poor connections warnings can be nerve-wracking especially for beginner drone flyers. Just go with the mini 2. I've lost my mini 1 before due to poor connectivity in a slightly windy environment. Got myself a mini 2 and never looked back. Hated the old controller design by the way as it isn't intuitive to mount your phone BELOW of your controller, and irritating at times. So yeah, just go with the mini 2.

about a year ago I crashed my magic mini 1 so I am wanting to replace it with a dji mini 2 along with some nd filters. I am undecided whether to wait for the soon to come mini 3. I have all the left over batteries from the mini 1 which apparently work in the mini 2 but put it slightly over 450 g. Indecision is so annoying.

If I was a new pilot I would buy the Mavic Mini SE instead of the M2 or even the Mavic Mini for the price. About $370 for MM SE with two more batteries. Just my belief but the M2 is still overprice for what you get. Spend more if not a beginner and get the MA2 or higher grade with far more capabilities. Power, speed, stability, functions and features make a huge difference. Good review of this little flyer. Holy Stone and other brand drones will lose more sales once this really gets gets out there. They can’t compete with this newer released drone with a great price. As a note, One of my many drones is a Mavic Mini. I have never had any signal lose up to 2,000 feet which is just a bit farther then I could see it at my location. I don’t fly farther due to no reason to do it. Ocusync is fantastic system with out any questions. It’s an Amazing technology and well worth spending the money if wanting to buy a better drone with far more capabilities. Will enhanced Wi-Fi transmission function successfully from inside a Jeep while the mini SE in in follow me / circle mode? Line of sight will start behind and above the Jeep, thus transmission is going thru the roof. Thanks.
