I would like to see a low light test between the two. The RYYB of the Autel is a real game changer in the market space. That said I have seen a video of someone taking the Mini 3 out in 31 mph winds and getting it to where it needs to be. That is confidence you just need in a sub 250 gram drone.

The Mini 3 Pro looks like it is carrying on the DJI tradition of “easy and fun to fly” drones. I started in this hobby eight years ago with a DJI Phantom 2, when 3-axis gimbals and FPV were in their infancy! Seeing this new DJI Mini 3 Pro confirms for me they are carrying on the tradition of “easy and fun to fly” for everyone! The technology advances are staggering when compared to nearly a decade ago!

I am currently flying Mini 2 and after owning P3P and Mavic Pro, I flew Mini 2 more than the combined lifetime of the other 2 drones. Despite small size, it's a very confident flyer and I have trusted the Mini 2. Will wait for Mini 3 Pro before purchasing so DJI can sort out all the firmware issues but certainly on my shopping list at least by Christmas unless Santa drop a present for me :-)

It is great having Autel in this mini drone category to keep the competition high and DJI on their toes. The new DJI mini 3 pro is amazing and having such an easy to use flying camera allows for such great perspectives and creativity. This would be such a good camera to capture all my adventures and bring that new perspective to the portfolio. Thanks for all your great content.

Spot on Chris, yearning for a sub 250g drone with a wide aperture for low light filming I nearly bought the Nano + on more than one occasion but both times cancelled my order after catching bad reviews about the performance in the wind and then the collision avoidance sensors being triggered by low sun and stopping the drone from flying. It was then I decided to wait for the mini 3. But I am very aware If it wasn't for the Autel Evo Nano + the Mini 3 Pro would not be the standard it is.

Great comparison vid. Good to see where the competition sits and the price/performance for each. DJI Mini 3 Pro looks like an absolute beast. Good to know if I'm lucky to fly one in NZ on my caravanning trip that it'll be able to take those winds!

Great video!! I am SERIOUSLY thinking of changing my Mini 2 for the Mini 3 Pro. The uses for it would mainly be for when im out in the Hills and Mountains for my channel. I do not fly my Mini 2 in anything above 25 mph winds, and even that im being careful and direction dependent. I could get an Air 2 S yes, but I like the drones to be under 250g for my needs. Would you say the Mini 3 Pro would be a decent upgrade from the Mini 2? Could you PLEEEEEAAAAASE do a video like this with wind performance / camera differences etc with the Mini 2 and Mini 3 Pro? Looking forward to the nighttime test, too! To be honest, there are a few of your samples where I did like the (oversharpened) look of the nano's imagery, or the more reddish colouring in the dry stalks - hard to tell without comparing the visual impression. Would be interesting to see how the footage from both drones would compare after you had taken them through editing to your taste. Which one gives you the leeway to achive the result you prefer? Or maybe you can make a comparable image from those shoots available in raw available for download for everyone to try their own workflow on? Fascinating series on a fascinating drone - you do make a great advocate, I'm hooked :) Kudos and thanks also for including the warning at the end of the video!

I work in law enforcement and as the only part 107 guy I have a drone in my truck that we have used to aid in S&R as well as surveillance and assistance when serving warrants. I am currently using an Air 1. I feel like the mini 3 pro would be a substantial upgrade and with the new RC and a set of prop guards would even be conducive to clearing buildings and keeping our people out of harm’s way. Going to attempt to get the agency to buy one but being able to gift one to them would be much easier considering our budget. 😂 thanks to you and Freewell for doing the giveaway! You guys rock and your content is top-tier!

I would really love to upgrade from being a Mini 2 user to having a Mini 3 Pro. The improved camera, obstacle avoidance, and the new RC are what excites me the most plus it's endurance in extreme wind surroundings. Each test / review shows more and more reasons why an upgrade is needed. I love my mini 2, but the winds of the Great Plains, she barely can hang on during windy Spring days. And that footage, straight out of the drone is amazing. Can’t wait to get a mini 3 sometime

The mini 3 pro looks incredible and is clearly a gigantic step up from the mini 2. However, I will not be buying it for a few reasons: 1. It doesn't make my mini 2 redundant. I bought my mini 2 last August and it has been fantastic. Being able to record 4K video on such a tiny drone is great. However, I do not think that there is an increase in wind resistance as the max speed is 1 m/s faster. The camera will be better but I only film for RU-vid so I don't need my drone's camera to be any better. 2. Price. There is a price hike which is expected but I think that the mini 3 isn't good in terms of value. The mini 2 fly more combo is £529 and the mini 3 with the standard remote and fly more is £868. I do not think that the mini 3 is worth nearly 70 percent more. I would much rather buy a mini 2 and a laptop to edit my footage for that price. I am sure that I am wrong about all of this and that the mini 3 embarrasses the mini 2 in terms of camera and flight performance. Please can you do a comparison with the mini 2. In summary, I will not be buying the mini 3 because my mini 2 is great enough for my RU-vid videos (check my channel out. I am trying to hit 100 subscribers by the end of the year). As ever, thanks Darren. Your coverage of the mini 3 has been fantastic and I can only wonder how you got your hands on a mini 3 before launch. Thanks

I'm in the exact same boat. I purchased my mini 2 last summer just before a family vacation and it has just been superb. At this point, I'm still learning the finer points of working with the camera and it's plenty capable enough for my hobby-level drone work. The mini 3 looks fantastic but I'll be keeping the mini 2 for quite a while until I'm at a point where my abilities exceed the capabilities of what I need to get out of a drone. I have a feeling that will be quite a while. At any rate, DJI is making some sweet camera drones and I'm glad I went with them.

Shot, I'm still flying that mini 1. It's really all I need in a sub250 drone. From my experience, you shouldn't even be flying a 250g drone on really windy days. Currently debating on the Autel Evo or Air 2s for my more serious projects.

I definitely prefer the Nano+ footage for the fact that it is less dark and overly contrasty than the DJI. Also, the Nano+ gives a duplicate 720p file and it looks like you referenced that file instead of the 4K file. I presume you had the latest Nano+ firmware? The night footage from both would be quite different, with the Nano likely being the clear winner. I have used the Nano+ in strong winds and it bounced around a bit, but the footage was flawless. If I want to fly a drone in strong winds, I'll use my P4Pv2 and not much out there is as stable as that one. Really, the only thing the Mini3 has that I'd like is 60p, but I can get by without that in a sub 250g drone. Looking forward to your night test. Both of these drones should be able to get great footage in near complete darkness. My Mini2 has been in the case since I got the Nano+.

It would be great to see the same strong wind performance comparison between the Mini 2 and Mini 3. They are the same weight but Mini 3 is slightly bigger In size so theoretically it would catch more wind if it's flying against it. Mini 2 is smaller and it has sleeker design which makes it more aerodynamic. I know from other reviews that the camera gimbal performes better in strong winds on the Mini 3 due to the different design and it's not getting tilted sideways even when the drone is tilted, which Mini 2's camera does due to the gimbal tilt limitations. Still good to know if they can achieve the same speed in the windy conditions. In some situations it could be crucial when you have to return the drone against the wind.

In my opinion, the footage out of the Mini 3 can be a bit "mushy", for example, look at the region with the reeds. At the same time, the output of the Nano is perhaps a tad bit unnaturally sharp and seems to pop the colors by default. The white balance and exposures do also matter. Evidently, the opinions may vary but in my eyes, the Nano video is a bit better as it seems to have more detail that goes beyond mere sharpening. That being said the Mini 3 seems to be a better overall product and is my choice to buy as well.

The thing is, the Nano has a really weird color science and a little unsharp footage is always better since u can add sharpening in post... You cant really take it away. The Mini is way better in this category imho.

Thanks for the test! Wind was surely a concern of mine in considering this drone. I was using the Mavic 2 zoom which I loved. It got stolen out of my car, so I figured I would find a used Mavic 2 zoom or pro until I saw this drone release at a similar price point. I shoot tons of social media content for my clients and they always want to create vertical videos so the vertical video on this drone has me sold. @@tim1398its not the aperture that's the difference, its the type of sensors. Nano+ has RYYB sensor, Mini 3 has RGGB sensor. The difference is huge when shooting in low light or at night. The Nano+ is superior in these conditions.

I have a Nano plus, flew it in 35mph gusts yesterday with no problems whatsoever, the new firmware update has bought the wind resistance on par with my Mini 2. Would be nice to know what your video settings were for the nano because my video has not shown any of the oversharpening that yours do.

Hi Darren, a fantastic looking drone! Great videos that you have posted up here prior to release and after… cheers ! Especially interested to use the follow me features on this drone now that it has the sensors over and above the mini 2. This adds a whole new world to what i could capture. I would use this drone on my future hikes and wild camp adventures to share here on youtube. The controller also looks awesome, and removes all the faf of using and connecting my phone… no more dark screens mid flight ! Mini 3 Pro in my opinion was the clear winner. Truly remarkable how far drone technology has come in such a short amount of time. I remember watching Phantom drone videos and thinking it can't get better than that. And here we are now with an amazing and powerful drone that can almost fit in your pocket. Really appreciate your dedication and thoroughly detailed videos Darren, can't wait to get my hands on a Mini 3 pro to try out everything I've learned from your videos. Also quick question...what something you'd like to see or have in new drones to come?

I still only have a phantom 2 with old GoPro😂, though I am kind of excited what difference it will make when I get a mini 3. from the stats the phantom 2 also wasn’t much faster and did much better in wind.

Już przed premierą widziałem, że to propagandzistą DJI... zachwyt jeszcze wtedy nie widzianym dronem był dość spory, a rozczarowanie cena mini3 musiało być szokujące 😅 bo cena miała zdeklasować autel... A te wnioski z porównań to jakiś żart (chociaż napewno autel nie jest idealnym dronem), ale pokazywanie tego obrazu w tak kiepskiej rozdzielczości?! Taka rozdzielczość może osiągnąć po znacznym oddaleniu się od pilota, ale nie w normalnych warunkach. Stracił wszelką wiarygodność w mojej ocenie i dostaje bana, ale pewnie YT zadba o to żeby znowu mi wyświetlić jego "porownania"...

I think a fairer product comparison would add the price of the Fly More Kit to the Mini 3 (as the Nano+ package includes extra batteries, props, etc), which brings it to the equivalent price at $1098 USD(!!!). Still, all around, the Mini 3 is the winner. Even if all else were equal, there's that nice new controller.

I dond know what was wrong with your Nano+ but all other comparison Videos, the Nano+ and the DJI Mini 3 was almost same and in some picktures/video the Autel Nano+ was even slightly better. Sorry, but this Video looks like a promotional video for the Mini3. The Mini 3 is a Top Drohne with better Wind resistance and some cool features but the Nano+ has a very good Camera Sensor RYYB.

Thanks for the comparison. Would like to have seen some night time comparisons as well. Agree that the Nano+ is a tad over sharpened but the M3P is too soft for my taste. A blend of the two would be perfect for me.

The lenses on Autel cameras use better glass than DJI, hence far more image detail on the Nano+.

first time that I hear from any reviewers that u can't trust the nano + , Was it on purpose not to mention that u get with the nano+on this price 2 extra batteries while there is only 1 Batterie with the Mini? Usually I do like your reviews but this one sounds like DJI Fan Boy commercial. Very sad and subjective. Regarding camera and features for me the mini 3 is only a small upgrade to the mini 2 and it is more than questionable if this small upgrades justifies almost the double of bugs u need to pay. Like the the Mavic 3 , the mini 3 is just a super hyped drone with all the "leaked" specs and fotos. If u brake it down to reality , there are minor upgrades which in my eyes are far overpriced.

Man oh man, the DJI Mini 3 is awesome. Pricing is similar, but the Nano comes with 3 batteries (according to pictures shown). However i knew, the DJI Mini 3 would take the Mini drone market to the limit. What else can i say, DJI Mini 3 is without doubt the KING.❤❤

Darren , I have to say thank you for keeping us informed all the time! I would really like to fly this drone. In this year I’m travelling a lot and Active track as well as hyper lapse and of course the social media mode would be great features! ( and the other new functions are so much better comparing to mini 2 ) Tomorrow will be my birthday and to be honest winning this drone would be the greatest fortune of all time! :D Anyway thank you for your content again and I can just wish all of us the best luck! 🍀

Hi, and thank you for your comparative review of both drones. However, I have some comments: 1- It seemed to me that both drones were shaky in the wind test. in addition, the wind is unstable. So, if you want to compare both, it might be more scientific to fly them at the same time, to subject them to the same conditions. 2- I felt the colors of the Nano+ way more appealing than the Mini 3- I know this is a subjective point of view. But your judgement of going in favor of one drone vs another was too quick and too judgmental. Maybe carrying more tests in different lighting conditions would be a better way to allow us to judge for ourselves. 3- I did not really understand if you set the lower res on the Nano+ by mistake or if this is the highest setting. Thank you for a more thorough review to help us decide on which drone suits better my purposes in case I need to make a buying decision.

Autel’s software has always been absurdly buggy. Many features like their clone of Active Track doesn’t even work 75% of the time. Their sensor is superior in low light for sure, but when everything else is better on the Mini 3, the choice is obvious.

How’s the frequency betwen drone & RC? Is it mini 3 still have a lot interference? Or no problem at all? Because in my country Indonesia many radio station/signal transmitter, so i fly mini 2 and have a lot signal interference.

The Nano+ really does over sharpen everything, the houses actually seem to shimmer in the video (window frames and door frames in particular) 🙄

Slightly oversharpened, but the Nano+ obtains far more image detail than the Mini 3, which is due to Autel using higher quality glass (lenses) compared to DJI consumer drones.

I am really love how well the Mini 3 stables itself in the Wind. I think it's just crazy for such a small drone. I would love to own a DJI mini 3, because for me personal it ist the perfect drone out there. I am going a lot of skiing and especially skitouring, but as well mountainbiking, where it's important to keep weight low. Also for these kind of sports is the tracking function just perfect and that's also a reason I didn't got the mini 2. For me the mini 3 combines the best aspects from the mini series and the a bit heavier drones. I really appreciate the effort you put into all of your videos and I am stoked to see a lot more about the new mini 3. Keep up the great work 😄👍

The only thing he might have a point on is the wind resistance. The camera quality of the nano is far superior. I was looking at selling my nano and getting one of these, but after what I've seen so far, I'm not going to.

I own the original Mini 1 and it still does great in sort of high wind situations. I never lost my drone or have crashed it. So having bought the Mini 3 will be groundbreaking for me! I can’t wait. Thank you for the videos.

Really great comparison, thanks Darren! I've been really happy with the Mini 2 based on your recommendation so I can only imagine that the Mini 3 is a game-changer. Incidentally, the Nano+ footage looks too warm for my tastes and I hear the obstacle avoidance is a bit inconsistent.

On the previous models when using your phone with the controller you were able to download video from the drone straight to your phone via the app. is this still possible if using the DJI RC controller as youre not directly using your phone. Thanks

Yes, you can save them to your sd card on the rc, connect the rc via cable or Bluetooth sharing. You also still have quick transfer on the drone
