Great post. Just recently started using it after I learned enough about the basics of flying it in the areas I frequent. Short, simple and straightforward post! Thank you!
Cheers Ian, The best and clearest tute I've seen on this functionality. A confidence booster and really appreciated. Thx for all your input and support of the droning community. Kaz (Sydney, Oz)
just found your site and love it. I live near the south downs, Beachy Head where you have been. I have had the mini pro 4 now for 3 weeks and having fun
Thoroughly enjoying your stuff Ian, just got my 1st drone (DJI Mini 4 Pro) and can't wait to get out there, I live close to the North Yorkshire Moors so there is plenty of scope for some epic flights there (as long as I don't go too near RAF Fylingdales or Sutton Bank Gliders Club). I've subscribed so keep those tips coming !! Cheers John.
I'm still trying to exhaust the possibilities of the Mini 3 Pro...and get better at flying. I've been 'lucky' a couple of times: in a town park a couple of weeks ago I sent mine up to about110m and forward . Stopped to take in the view then thought I was doing a 360...I wasn't. I was sending the drone sideways almost to a local country park. I thought I had just lost focus on it (happens so easily with a grey drone on a grey sky). RTH rapidly! Prior to that in 'follow' mode I sent it crashing into trees while trying to hide the RC. Broke props sadly, but replaced them in the car. Take care out there but have fun!
Thank you Ian. Great short explanation for e new drone user. Do you have any idea why you only can switch Subject Scanning on when the drone is flying? Thank you.
I have an addition. I was surprised by the Auto mode after just gotten the update, but used it to follow me on bike on a forest road (lots of trees both sides). A total failure. Looking at the screen recording, I noticed that the drone tried three different modes; Hold, Helix and Proxie. I guess it cycles through all automatically. Do you know? Do you also know what exactly those three modes do? (I believe the Hold Mode is similar to the parallel?). PS. Interesting to see you making the same mistakes I did; Start screen recording, but forget drone recording and also realise that you have to tick out the marking around the subject before you try flying the drone back to you. 🙂
Hello Ian, thanks for another great video. Which drone do you think is most suited for videoing motorcyclist? Some drones are OK with cars and people but not bikes, why is that? Thanks
@IaninLondon Thanks Ian I was not aware of that. I may now consider upgrading from mini2 as off to France in moho in May and 50m on auto may take pressure off a bit.
@@steviep147 CAA rules specifically cover this: You do not have to keep your drone or model aircraft in direct sight when follow-me mode is active and set to follow within 50m of you. You must still follow all of the other points.
Hi Ian, I'm back after being terminated by RU-vid 3 weeks ago as unfortunately they can't or won't differentiate between naturism (filmed by drone at a distance) and pornography apparently uploaded for sexual gratification!!! So after countless appeals and emails being rejected I've had to start again with a new login and name etc. Anyway, another great video with lots of useful information, I must remember to keep my clothes on when trying out all the features!😂
Why does my menu only show “Active Shots” and not “Active Track”? I see Active Shots, Spotlight, and POI…but nowhere do I get the straightforward Active Track.
Thanks for the tips, although I haven't moved up from my Mini 3 Pro yet. I mentioned to someone else here that I used follow mode recently (on a woodland track close to a road) and had an immediate disaster. As I walked away I tried to hide the RC in a large jacket pocket. Must have touched the screen or jiggled a joystick and the drone shot off sideways into the trees and snapped a couple of props. I counted myself lucky that it didn't shoot the other way and into the road! An open landscape, like yours here, is definitely more forgiving if you make errors. 🙂
Actually it has forwards, backwards and downwards. Pretty good, hence I'm not changing up quite yet. The Mini 4 has upwards added? From DJI site: Forward Precision Measurement Range: 0.39-25 m Effective Sensing Speed: Flight speed
Hi Ian, My BIG complaint would be an automatic sticking a subject in the middle of the screen. I was a TV Cameraman, obviously we carefully ‘composed’ shots for best effect. Active track is just robotic and bland! Simon Blackburn, East Suffolk Drone Photography✌🏻
Fair point, but I'm the absence of a flying camera man, it's not a bad result 😉. It doesn't always keep things in the centre either, but yes, some more configurability would be good....
Thanks. Interesting video. I just ordered a mini 4 pro as an upgrade from my mini 2, so thats gonna bring me a lot of other oppertunities this summer. Greetings 👍🏼
Hi Ian. Hope you don't mind, but getting an answer from DJI is impossible! This concerns the RTH function on the Mini 4 Pro when using it in Tracking mode in a Car. Before each flight for this I specify the RC to be the Homepoint, but when I am about a Mile or 2 away from start point the Rc is beeping at me telling me The Battery is Low and Drone will return to Homepoint, So I check the Battery level and it is at 50 or even 60%!... The Drone says it is going back to the Start point So I have to Cancel the Active Track (POI or Trace) and concentrate on getting the Drone Down, Changing Batteries and starting all over again!.. I really Do think there is a Bug in the Software, and I think You are the perfect Man to bring this to the attention of DJI who simply just don't want to know from the likes of me! All the best, Percy.
I'll have a play and test this, but I'm guessing that just because you tell it that the remote is the home point, it simply sets the current location of the remote as the new home point, and doesn't dynamically update the home point as you move. All you can do is force the home point to update every few minutes. 👍🏻
@@IaninLondon Yes Ian, it seems DJI have failed to include this absolutely essential function when Flying an Active Track mission in a vehicle. I don't know their reasoning for this, it just seems crazy not to even give the operator the Choice let alone have it set as default when in this particular mode. It really has spoiled the whole Tracking vehicle experience for me, I honestly thought there was something wrong with the Drone!
Hi Ian, great tutorial on the tracking options! Got the Mini Pro 4 in October and was having a lot of fun, however I am in Western Canada and am waiting for the cold winter weather to go, so I can get back out there !
