INTRO
Goodbye GoPro Hero 10, Hello DJI Osmo Action 2. I’ll admit - I gave up on the idea of there even being an Osmo Action 2 from DJI, I did not anticipate a follow-up to the Original Osmo Action. Despite the amazing potential of the OA1 as a huge competitor for the Action Camera Market - with a front-facing screen, an insanely low price point - and a big win for FPV Drone Pilots. The Osmo Action 2 took forever to arrive. But today, I am here to tell you that the OA2 was worth the wait. 4K120, 48MP, it can zoom in and out and is only 55 GRAMS. This Tiny, Magnetic Action Camera is absolutely game-changing. I’m not sure if it fits as competition for the GoPro Hero 10, the Insta360 One X R, or the GO2 - it’s legitimately in a league of its own.
Let’s go over all of the new features, then I’ll show you how to use it in a performance review

Hi friends! It appears that I have made a couple of mistakes, due to a misunderstanding during communications. The video was uploaded to release EXACTLY as the product came out, so the FINAL OA2 was slightly different: - 12 MP camera, not 48 MP - MIMO was available on the first version (it was not NEARLY as usable as the new MIMO) I will add to this comment as I get updates :)

For me, the gopro session was a really good mini action camera for some moments (FPV). However, its limitations meant that I never saw it as a main action camera. Example no replaceable battery (With a short battery time) no way to replace the lens No front screen (If you did not buy an accessory) So for me, osmo action 2 feels like a newer session based on its features and quality but with similar drawbacks.

Such a comprehensive video! 🤩 Would you mind sharing your ideal night video settings? I'm trying to get the best settings for POV night photography videos, and I end up with either super dark video or super shaky/smeared lights 😅

My first GOPRO was the HERO SESSION, wich was very similar to this (used for surfing). Them I've bought the GOPRO MAX, that one magic camera that allows me to do so much, but has a impact size in surfing (i've sold the session for dumb reasons). I was in love with the GOPRO 10, because of the high framerate at higher resolutions, specially cause i would be able to snap pictures of the video (for surfing, skating and other things with fast pace is the better method I think), but when I saw the action 2, who reunites one of my fav cams size (session) with the specs that I'd love to record, man... this was a certainly buy! Thnaks for the tips at the end! Didn't see any other video talking about it. Peace!

Thanks for video, really interested in external mic for this. All goo with internal when you are right next to camera…. But can you attach a Rode external mic. There was an adaption for Action 1 camera …. Does that work let us know

It is certainly better than Gopro hero 10, because of the larger sensor, it's actually larger than gopro's sensor.

wait I just got confused, by having the camera at h265 isnt the same quality? but just less mb as its more compressed and you need a more powerful machine to playback/edit? Or does the h264 has higher quality at the end as maybe the compression isnt that great. And have you tested the same thing on a gopro?

Hi Colin: With the power module in place which has the USB-C and SD card slot, can you charge the camera or power module from an external power bank thru the USB-C port while continue to shoot or use the camera????? Deal breaker for me. Thanks Luis

The rx0ii is the best in image quality. With that said I record most of my Broll on the osmo pocket because I just strap it to my book bag and walk around. Would be pretty interesting to starp this to a hat and catch some cool broll. If I had to pick just one I would still use the rx0ii stabilization isn't the best but the image quality is close to a full frame sensor (close, close enough lol)

Good round-up but... Mimo is not a new feature (the original model uses it) and there's no induction charging. Charging is via the pogo pins.

Hi I just purchased the device a day back. When i record in 1080 or 4k @24fps, observed screen flickering couple of times in low light. Is it happening in all devices or mine only. Secondly if I play a clip there is no sound. How do I adjust volume

Can you set a fixed EV correction, but not fully manual exposure? For some of my shots I simply want -1.0 EV.

Not clear from the video: when you connect the extension module to the camera, does it start dumping videos stored in the internal storage automatically, or do you have to manually start it every time?

Does the camera have better dynamic range then dji pocket 2( blown out skies)? Can you make a comparison video between two cameras. I can still return my pocket 2 and buy DJI action 2

No Dji action 2 has terrible dynamic range my gopro hero 7 black hes much better dynamic range, this is unusable for me. I buy one and now I am disappointed also whole picture seems to be dark. I try to use D-cinelike profile but it seems to just desaturate picture but dynamic range is still not good and from shadows I can not recover any color it just looks dark. I would not recommend this camera unless they fix it in firmware update. Pocket 2 is better option and if you need action camera I would recommend gopro. I though I would love dji action 2 when I seen it on paper but dynamic range is deal braker for me.

Nice video, but you lack to mention some fundamental aspects of an action cam use, which are: How long can it record with the internal memory, how slow it is to transfer those videos from internal to SD card and to charge a depleted battery. The various limitations you have with such camera need to be described.. (non replaceable lenses, battery limitations, overheating, internal storage record time, horizon leveling limitations, etc)

I agree that this is the best camera for convenience but if you don’t want to carry a heavy camera with waterproof gear that makes your heavy powerful camera even heavier and you want to dive super far down in the ocean like I’m talking almost 3600 feet if you can even drive that far there is go pro cases for that so I’m still using GoPro even though I can’t Dive that deep i’m talking 1000 m underwater I just can’t do it but maybe I’ll do it later when I learn how to but I’m sticking to GoPro because I can already dive 500 m And the case that can dive 1000 m is $850 and every time a company releases a more waterproof case that is not huge meaning not triple the size of the GoPro That’s when I buy it

OK so this isn't waterproof ,doesn't have a direct mic input over heats after 6-10mins ,held together buy 2 little clips and magnets mmmmmm I'm not sure dji have gone in the right direction as regards to ACTION CAM?? I think this is more for drones and for walking around vloggers will I be investing in this NA keeping the osmo action 1 ....Just my thoughts...

It's waterproof for 10m and the magnet is insanely powerful! But I was definitely disappointed about no Microphone inputs :(

DJI Action 2 will be over heated and shut down after 4 minutes, when record 4K 120fp, take a while for camera to back to work, gopro 10 can take 4k 240fp without a problem.

you're obvoisly new to FPV. This camera will not replace gopro or insta360 in FPV. Too expensive, too fragile, no sd card slot, no power options other than tiny internal battery

h.265 for peoples info is has the same visual quality as h.264 at a much lower bitrate. Therefore you save way more storage space and have the same quality output. Unless they lowered the bit rate so much for h.265 mode that the visual quality does not match anymore.

Honestly pretty underwhelming camera. Gets very hot, can’t shoot 5.3k 12mp camera, no build in sd card slot, and it costs way more then a GoPro that is just so much better. Unless your a fob pilot then stick with the hero 10. It is just so much better.

Ok its small and some good options there but the video quality is pretty bad and not very usable in most cases. No ND filters for this one? Grainy, pixely, sound is ok, but nah thanks. Ive seen much better footage from Osmo Action 1. Disappointing sadly.

1.No replaceable batteries 2.no mic output 3.No way to use over 1000 gopro accessories. 4.No 5k, consider that its biggest opponents feature it.

No ND Filters currently, you are correct. It does have a housing - but I can't see it working with NDs. The most impressive features for me were the Rocksteady, and the 4K60 - but I would shoot with Manual settings

@@KongGig You can hot-swap the battery module with another battery, There's no mic output on any camera on the market (maybe you mean mic input? That's coming via the usb port). There's a prong adapter in the box for GoPro mounts. 5K isn't an important feature for most users - but yes, it's a good marketing number.

To start..Do the battery module cost 15-20 $ and is it waterproof? second ye mic input ^^ So another accessory. third so another accessory. fourth When the customer sees two action cameras. i.e. one that supports 5k and another that does not have this, both of which cost about the same, then the one with 5k has significantly higher buyer value.

@@KongGig What features the buyer wants depends on... what the buyer wants. For me, and many others, 5K is of no interest. I'm not interested in additional batteries (I have them for several cameras and I don't recall ever actually using them!). Etc etc.

If you do a review you should do your homework better... I just stopped the video after hearing the word OSMO 3 times... DJI doesn't call it OSMO anymore.
