I also ditched GoPro and went to this exact same set up, the Mic 2 is amazing along with the DJI Osmo Action 4. Amazing quality and very practical! Great video Runa!
@@OffSheGoesADV You'll love it for sure, I've bought a 2nd Mic 2 as you only get 6 hours or so from the battery. DJI have certainly won me over! Love what you're doing Runa, really enjoying your adventure!
Hi , great gear/ setup review I am going to make the change, it’s a no brainier. Go pro hero black 8 problems, the screen freezes, then it goes blank.. Quick start recording at fast speed. Battery out to reset. Battery life short. The good bit , picture quality I found really good.Your tip about the start buttons going to try that thanks. Plus an enormous thank you for all the videos you have made. Norway there’s no where like it , be visiting Again very soon.
You have a Z9 on the side, so, Leonoor, if she ever tries to pull out her gear then just slam the big one in her face and say: Look at this "little" baby and weep!! 😜
Thanks Runa. That was very good. You have a natural talent for presenting. I like how you lay out everything logically and have live backup or screen titles to explain what you are talking about. It's very obvious how much effort and thought has gone into your video and how focused you are to deliver quality, appropriate and concise information to your viewers, Kudos to you. I am not a vlogger, just a regular guy who likes to ride. I have a GoPro Hero Black 7 ... only because it was a gift from my son. Works fine for me. I use it with an aftermarket remote that I stick in the tank area so I can start and stop footage. I can vouch for it's durability. On a trip to BC the camera mount broke and fell off and slid down the road while I was doing about 120 KPH. I went back and picked up the camera thinking at least I'll salvage the SD card, but besides a few scratches on the case it's still working as well as ever 2 years on. I do have a question on a completely different, unrelated and personal note... You don't have to answer this if you don't want to... But I have to ask if you can tell us the story behind each of the tattoos we see 😊 Cheers Mark in Canada
Thank you very much, appreciate it! 😊 It's different making these kind of videos, all planned out! 😂 I started moto vlogging with two GoPro Hero 7 Black's! Good camera for a much lower price than these new cameras. Only issue was, they kept freezing up. In the middle or in between recording, it would just stop and no buttons working. I had to take out the batteries to restart the. This caused me a lot of frustration and even worse; lost footage. I did some research and realized this was a fairly normal issue with GoPro, even in the newer models. Which is why I changed for DJI in the first place 😊 I'm glad to hear yours is working well, I'm sure most of them do! For the tattoos, not a whole lot of stories behind them, I'm pretty impulsive 😂
Runa is underrated in comparison to other Moto vloggers. I personally like her presentation more than other vloggers. She is good overall in terms or her product. I wish her all the best for her future. I definitely enjoy her content. Thank you Runa if you are reading my comment.
So great DJI sent you two Osmo Action 4 to try out. Like I have mentioned before I bought two of them when they got released and I am really pleased with the quality, batterylife, how good it can handle really cold winter weather and much more. I had OA3 before and loved it, but OA4 have way better quality and it is also possible to adjust sharpness and noise reduction.
Just got me a Action 4, this helped me a lot, I went out on the bike today to get some footage to teach myself how it all works, I used your settings and it worked perfect. One question if I may....... what loop setting do you have it on? Next purchase for me will be a chin mount and a mic. Thanks in advance for any additional guidance.
I have the DJIOA3 and super cheap mic $1, but it worked the best, even compared to RODE LAVALIER. With the settings -12db + RODE LAVALIER, it went super peaking, but not with the super cheap mic lavalier. Weird. Anyone experience the same?
Dumped GoPro for DJI some months ago after nothing but issues. Also recently picked up the mic 2. The ability to link one transmitter to the camera is great, especially after the software update that allows you to disable the transmitter's auto turn off feature meaning now you can stop and start recording without being disconnected from the transmitter 👍
Good to hear. Can you connect 2 transmitters simultaneously to the action 4? Also what’s the transmitters battery list when powered on constantly thanks?
@Two_Wheel_Trips you can only connect one transmitter via Bluetooth to the action 4. If you want to use two you need to use the receiver. I got at least 6 hours out of the transmitter with it being constantly on.
Thank you for a great video. However I do have a question. You state you shoot at 4K 25FPS. I am curious as to why 25FPS and not something higher, particuarly when motorcycling. Is it becausse you want smaller files size, less emphasis on the background or does have to do with what works best for RU-vid? I am getting ready to ride Montenegro next week and want to capture the experience while on the bike. I appreciate in advance the comments you may have.
Amazing video this was. Something that I've been looking for, for a while. Thank you very much for that. Now, at the risk of sounding like an idiot, how do I connect a DJI lavalier mic to the action 4 body? I don't have the DJI MIC 2 setup. Would that be necessary to complete the audio recording setup?
Hi Runa, can you tell me exactly what make and type of memory card **you're** using? I had a lot of problems with my SanDisk Class 10, I guess, and I would like to buy a fast and good card. Thanks.
Nice with the wireless! I am curious though. Since it connects with bluetooth, will it work with quick start on the camera? I mean the cam starts up to film in a few seconds but will the mic always connect as fast and reliably? Cheers! /Rob
It does reconnect. How long it takes however seems to vary. Sometimes (most times so far) it connects instantly, other times it can take up to 10 seconds ish. Seems like that occurs more often when the camera has been asleep for little while. I will most likely use the wireless solution only when it rains, and just keep the camera on constantly. Having the receiver connected for normal use gives you a few more really nice features I would like to take advantage of, like the 32 bit float recording, and more options to adjust audio input levels. Will know better once I've had time to use it for a while!
Great informative video. I'm looking to start vlogging and have spent the last few hours watching videos on the Rode Wireless Pro and the DJI Mic 2 setups as I try to decide which to buy. One thing I really like about the Rode Pro kit over the DJI is that they use a locking 3.5mm TRS mic jack to ensure your mic can't get accidentally unplugged from the transmitter unit. This is a nice extra safety feature to prevent the transmitter from getting lost should something hit it and overcome the magnetic connection to whatever it's attached to as the locked in mic cord would act as a tether. That said, the DJI is $100 cheaper and provides comparable if not slightly better audio quality. I've already settled on going with DJI Action 4 cameras over the Ace Pro simply due to the lighter weight and longer battery life. My only previous experience with action cams comes from an old GoPro Hero 5 that I purchased 10-12 years ago. It still works and did what I needed it to do for non-moto stuff, but it leaves a LOT to be desired on the audio side of things.
I have DJI Osmo Action 3 and dual DJI Mic 1 Set (2 TX + 1 RX + CC) and few questions 🙂 Can you pair a DJI Mic 1 transmitter to Osmo Action 4? Can you pair two DJI Mic transmitters (version 1 or 2) to Osmo Action 4? Can you adjust transmitter gains as well on Osmo Action 4, like you can do with DJI Mic's receiver? Thank you 🙏
The Missenden flyer, has just done a video on this camera, he, like you, has ditched the GoPro, saying pretty much exactly what you've pointed out. He got fed up with it crashing or freezing for no apparent reason. So now that you've got a better camera, we can look forward to even better videos, as if your videos could get any better. 👍👍🏍️🏍️🇬🇧🇬🇧
I had the exact same problem when I used GoPro, which is why I changed to DJI in the first place! Can't wait to get out and document my trips with this new gear 😃
which GoPro? I've seen videos saying the GoPro 7-9 had major issues, but none really for the 10+ other than overheating at 4K without proper cooling, like it will get anyway on a motorcycle. I got the Hero11 Black, no issues so far, other than overheating at 4K in my car, but I could easily do 4K 60 FPS for 90-100 min on MC per charge, with GPS enabled
New to action camera, got the ’osmo 4’. Guess I should have picked the package you showed. Need extra batteries and case, and the selfie stick too. Remote, wireless mic is probably the best thing. (Too bad I picked the wrong package) I have not downloaded any footage, and still working on motorcycle mount. Hopefully get it sorted for my mid-June trip! Nice bike, which Model huskie have you here?
Hello Runa thank you very much for this perfect video. We are also looking forward to watch NZ series😊. I bought DJI OA4 and dango gripper mount. However Dango mount is always slipped from my helmet. Do you have any advice to prevent it. Thank you
I really do not understand why nearly all touring (not product review) motovloggers do not have forward facing cameras (eg Insta360 X3/4) to cover a wide view, but insist on helmet cameras. This leads to the vast amount of footage being of a rapidly dirtying screen and instrument cluster rather than an unimpeded view around. Unless you have your camera attached to your eyeball, we do not see what you see and..... we already know you are on a motorbike 😊 so we not need to see the handlebars.. Seldom do we really need to see the rider, so backward facing cameras are irrelevant.
Hi Runa, I very much appreciate your feedback on your camera gear. I have the Osmo Action 3 with Instamic Pro. QUESTION: What software do you use for post production?
Hi, how do you manage video cutting, what software / hardware do you use to produce videos during travelling ? My Davinci free does not work with 10bit clips. Really like your videos with all this details, helps planning my own travel a lot. Kind regards Robert
Great channel 🙂 I am desperate to find a good cam that has good audio options. I like all the Osmo 4 cam features and the wi fi mic sounds good, but I see you mount it behind the camera......so to reduce wind blast, but I like to also record my voice, but itcseems that DJI mic is too bulky to put inside my helmet? Also, my helmet is not a ADV helmet, so I gave limited room inside for anything but slim mics. At the moment I use a cheap Ebay mic, which is not bad, but good either. I do like that clip-on cam mount, though. Just a shame I don't have a ADV helmet chin guard to attach it to, just a normal sports touring Shoei.
Even though many demos say that I don’t need to pair the mic 2 transmitter with DJI action 4 after the initial pairing but I actually do. It’s pretty annoying. I feel I am doing something wrong 😢
I just did a small vid on this and was telling people I would link a person that could explain this camera in more detail, and wow I found you, so can I add this vid as link on my channel? You did a great job explaining everything 👌🏾
Great informative video. I did the switch last year to the Osmo Action 3. Thinking of going to the 4. Do the osmo 3 battery work on the 4? The audio set up for the 4 do you need to attach the receiver to the osmo 4 camera then run your transmitter in your helmet? Or can to just go Bluetooth direct from DJI mic 2 to Osmos action 4?
I use a GPS remote+OA4+mic combo and the problem is, when the camera goes to sleep, the mic 2 disconnects and if I start filming using the snapshot function the mic2 takes anywhere between instant to maybe 10 seconds to reconnect and obviously in that period I get no sound from it. Not a deal breaker but they could set it up like the remote so it doesn't disconnect until the camera shuts down after 30 minutes which is also something they should allow to be set by the user, as in allow the camera to never shut down completely. About the remote, it's pretty cool and it fits nicely on the mirror arm of my bike but they should allow the GPS to be turned off to conserve battery life. If they would fix these 3 things, it would be perfect.
I got my action 2 today, it's for my fpv drone, so overheating wasn't a problem, but I noticed poor touch screen response, sometimes 5-6 taps then it responds. Not a huge issue but no one even mentions it.
Can it be hooked up as a dashcam / so its with cabel so it can film all the time? Jeg har et Kitvision Escape HD5 jeg aldrig er kommet igang med at bruge....tror det er for ringe i forhold til alle de nye.
If you have two different bluetooth set ups, like one for the mic-camera, and one for a smartphone GPS to a large screen like Carpuride W702 GPS, ( not even sure if you use such a thing) plus to a loudspeaker in helmet do the bluetooth signals not interfere with each other? Or for instance with a wireless bluetooth connection to other riders, can you still use it or must one stop either of the two? If so. is it possible to link the mic and camera with a cable anyway?
Thanks for this detailed review of the DJI, action cameras have come on a long way recently. As riding on road and off road can be hazardous, I’m keen to know how any damage is repaired? If you get a stone fly up and chip the lens, or if the camera fell off and landed face down, is this a replaceable part?, or is the whole camera finished?
I already have go pro 8. Would it be better to buy insta 360 x4 or dji action 4. What I noticed that in day there is no much difference between go pro 8 and dji action 4 in 4k video quality.
I have a Osmo Action, I'm guessing it's the first model. I'm new at it. I have used it on way to work and from work to home. Couple of questions: 1. I found it records in segments is there a way to have it record in one file? 2. After a few minutes I noticed the camera was hot, do all camera's do this, is there a way to stop it?
Just picked up a Action 3 and DJI wireless mic and so far have been very impressed with the quality. Ive noticed alot of youtubers switching to DJI from Go Pro due to the constant issues
Nice set up. I just bought the Action 4 as well based on your good footage. The thing I always wonder is how do you combine the footage of the two cameras. How do you find the right place on both camera where footage overlaps. I haven’t found a good way to do that. Could you explain a little bit?
nice content. I came across your vlog because I'm planning to buy the DJI Mic 2 as I am also using the Action 4. I've been struggling to find the best wired mic for this cam but since the Mic 2 is already compatible plus wireless. No more conversations needed. Lol. I've seen in the site also that the Mic 2 can record 6 HRS straight so that's another plus. P.S I used to have the x3 but sold it for the Action for due to huge difference in image quality. But still the x3 can be a good secondary camera.
I Try-it a few months ago the Wireless solutions for the sound. But the connection failed sometimes. I need to try-it again. Question: do they connect automatically when you start recording?
PLEASE BE CAREFUL, PLEASE BE SAFE RUNA JI, LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR NEW ZEALAND VLOGS❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a great review, well done! You sure hit on everything anyone would want to know about this combination vs. the GoPro. I just recently switched to the Action 4 from GoPro, I have 3 GoPros and have grown to dislike them more than any of my other technology. 100% agree with your assessment on everything, I have no idea why I would ever use GoPro again after going to the Action 4 + DJI Mic 2 and wireless audio. It's so convenient and everything just works.....not to mention the quick release is SOO nice, and no requirement for the silly GoPro Media Mod :).
That Chin gripper mount seems cool and functional! I should consider buying it. Right now I GoPro sticker mounts on my helmet. But, I have a concern/doubt: doesn't the mount keeps touching your collarbone or the base of your neck when you look down or turn sidewards with your chin down. I have this difficulty, as I had to glue the mount onto the chin of the helmet upside down as to adjust seamlessly with the stylised contours of my helmet and the camera keeps hitting against the lower part of my neck and sometimes the footage I get is nothing but plain "sky-watching" 🙂I am afraid whether the dango mount would do the same
Hello, May I know if you need to connect manually again the DJI mic 2 to action 4 when you are powering up the action 4? Or the DJI mic 2 and action 4 will connect automatically once the camera power on? I am also doing snapshot so I want to know if the action 4 will automatically connect to Mic 2 if i power on the camera. Thanks in advance.
I went back to a wired mic, because I can remote start the cam, but not the mic. Leaving the mic on, it's emty after a few hours. It also needs to pair after the cam switches on, which is not instant. And the quality with a directly attached mic is also better.
That was a perfect review Runa! I've always used GoPro camera's so far. Why? To be honest, just because I thought they are the best. Now I've seen why I definately should switch to DJI. You gave me more than one reason to do so. Battery, low light quality, price and more. So a huge thank you from the Netherlands for this review!!
Not an expert in this stuff but I don't understand why this 10-bit camera does not seem to churn out video as vivid as my GoPro and Ace Pro. I want to love this camera but still trying to dial in the settings as "auto" doesn't seem very vivid.
hi Runa - great preso. Like many others - I'm tired of the reliability of the GoPro (9)... so keen on the Action 4. Are you able to confirm if the pre-recording mode remains set when the unit is powered off/on again? Or, does it need to be set every time?
Hi, m using grand father of DJI osmo action 4 - and that is DJI osmo action 1. But Grand father dont have super wide angle otherwise everything else is fine
The image stabilization is called Rock Steady instead of Rock Solid by the way. Other than that, pretty cool. From another motorcycle enthusiast. Keep it up.
I may be confused. At 14:17 where is the wireless mic mounted to record this audio? Is your helmet fully closed with the mic outside the helmet in front? Or is that two transmitters recording with one outside the helmet and one inside?
As i have heard not tried yet that the battery carging box for the DJI batteries can be used as a batterybank and you connect it to the USB port on the Osmond camera then you can rekord for hours without almost not use any battery on the camera at all maybe try it out?
Great review Runa, very well articulated. DJI seem to have put some real thought into some of those features. Your terrific panoramic videos are evidence of your great setup. The Osmo Action 4 Adventure Combo is retail priced at around the $660 AUD here in my area in Australia. I bought an AKASO Brave 4 Pro 4K Action Camera & 64GB card last year from Amazon as my first action camera for $204 AUD. It does all I need for the moment and has great features but the inbuilt mic is average (very average 😆) which doesn't worry me. Thanks so much for sharing your review. 🤩🤩👍 🦘🦘
Thank you, glad you liked it 😊 Even if the DJIOA4 is cheaper than it's opponents, it's still far from cheap! I'm glad you found an option that works for you 😊
