Internal mic sounds much better. Thanks for making this video. You just saved me quite a bit of money. If I ever do external microphone with my O.A. I'll probably just stick with my lav + S10 and sync it in post.
One thing that seems consistent with the mic adapter is that the top end gets rolled away, so listening to it, you feel as though the internal mic is better because there is more treble. Quite strange because the Rode Videomicro isn’t normally a muffled sounding microphone. Such a pity, because I was considering an Action if this worked out but for me, the audio lacks sparkle with an external mic. That adapter isn’t cheap either is it?
Of course, but you can’t boost what’s not there in the first place since that can introduce noise. Then I guess noise reduction? A proper interface might be the real answer .... My point is that the interface changes the sound of every mic in comparison toother interfaces. The Micro is a bright microphone normally, and not dulled down like the examples I’ve seen, so the interface is altering the signal. I also think that the audio is compressed sounding which can’t be easily fixed at all. It lacks dynamic range.
the tripod used at the start, not the one with the two on. the sound was identical to me till you went the go, my question is you need to do a test with a sterio mic left and right and separate and actually gain down the one side to see if a true stereo channels are used.
I just got my Dji Osmo action camera, so the geniuses solved the audio problem and yet created another problem of compatibility with the cages smh. You honestly can't script this level of incompetence. Where did the plan on sitting the Mic if the adaptor isn't compatible with 99% of current cages smh... bravo! These guys really know how to put on a show...
I wish you can boost and adjust the gain on the external mic like the gopro cameras were you can boost the dB of the mic the osmo action I have the audio is to low when outside doing gardening videos during editing I had to boost the audio and it still wasn't loud enough I use a rode video micro on my osmo action with the same cynova adapter ... I have 3 gopro hero 6s 1 gopro hero 7 and 1 gopro hero 9 and they have setting were you can boost the dB rating whether it's a powered mic or a non powered mic
Thanks for the great review. I've got Ulanzi cage, sigh. Anyway, will it work with the Osmo Pocket as well? I've got that too as well as the Pocket adapter but as we all know that doesn't work with the OA but just wondering it it does the other way round?
I would definitely use a lavalier mic with this one. Especially key with an action cam to keep mic near the sound source. Since I'm vlogging, no need for the wireless intermediate.
The point is how to improve the sound with an external mic yet not make it as good as the built-in mic. Does anyone know how to improve Osmo Action sound with an external mic without it being wireless?
@@philippenguyen7850 Hey, it's all good. I purchased the Osmo Action. The Sound with the adaptor and external mic is great and I am still trying to adjust the video image quality though. Check out my latest video which I used final cup pro to improve the sound quality but as a whole it's great even without the external mic.
Great review, thanks for that! I thought the Rode wireless transmitter's mic sounded better than the lav mic, wind noise aside. The OA's internal mic actually held it's own against the Rode Micro fairly well, too, at least when you were close to it. Thanks again!
wich camera in 4k is the best for videos Vlogs ect.... dont metter the price i hear the canon is good but also the sony soo i need some help please thanks.
received my cynova today and was just testing it. If you knock or slightly wiggle the cynova my mic icon intermittently disappears and comes back on, must not be a tight enough fit or secure enough fit.
HELP! I have this exact set up... but when I plug in the microphone the icon doesn't look the same... it looks "empty" and there is no sound. Is there an adjustment I can do to get this to work?
Great info video thank you I have now like so many have a male firewire cable ..to a ..female 3.5 mini jack, would that work, ie with my Rode wire less go, and can the rode receiver fit onto the original cage that comes with the camera ?
this is a really really good review!! I start to get really confused about this topic. I hope you can give your opinion - i want to use the osmo action during my vacation - i'm not really a vlogger - to me it's important to get a good sound from what is happening around me. like walking through a city, festive things, walking streets - would you say the internal mic is enough? or would be rode better for this? i really can't tell what i liked more.
Or you could pay more money for the gopro 8....then buy the pop up screen....but not forgetting you need the mic case to attach the screen to because it doesnt attach to the gopro without it....just sayin..
I've been waiting SO LONG for this adapter! Had my UK adventure without it (because it wasn't made yet) and it messed up all my audio. Hey ho, that's life. THANK YOU for the review. Great stuff :-)
Hello there. When using audio adapter, does it turn off internal microphone automatically? Or is there any setting to turn the internal mic off? Thanks
Great review Which cage is the one that works ? the link go's to the adapter not the cage. I ordered a adapter the night it was released and will need two cages. Great question about dose it work on the Pocket? Thanks so much
I’m really not happy about several things here. 1. Connecting a mic to either the Osmo Action or Pocket should not require a separate adapter. You should just be able to plug in and go. 2. If you are going to have an audio adapter you should be able to use the same one across your product line. 3. If you insist on making us buy an adapter, design it so we don’t have to repurchase other accessories like a cage to be able to use the adapter in our setups. No excuse for this in 2019. I love my Action and pocket, but this is getting a little ridiculous.
Lon Denard but DJI and GoPro also made gimbals for their products. Also, in my opinion, ANY camera manufacturer should always consider mic/audio options and improvements because in the history of video recording, audio combined with video was always a powerful combination. Action cameras were originally meant for just action but because of people's creativity and imagination they now are meant to accommodate both. They're not just for recording footage and then adding music over voice anymore. Their small size has become popular among vloggers so I think that in the best interest of any manufacturer, their products should be able to evolve with current trends.
@Lon Denard While it may be true that DJI does not have control of how a 3rd party company designs its products, there is something to be said for making an accessory that work with 3rd party equipment that is already out there... Case in point. DJI's decision to use GoPro style mounts on the Osmo Action. Think of how many potential sales they gained by making it compatible with an established product. Whats more, a microphone adaptor is not rocket science - Unless someone designs it to be (Hello DJI). The circuitry for this could have easily been built into the Osmo action itself or absolutely put into a much smaller package than what is being offered. And yes, while action cams are designed to be mounted on motorcycles, hang gliders, surf boards etc.. there is no reason to think that a content creator would not like to have the option to provide better audio in their productions. Cameras are tools. How one chooses to use that tool is up to their own creativity. If it suits someone to use something labeled as an "action cam" for vlogging or doing interviews there is nothing wrong with that. And finally while it may be difficult to make cupcakes with a pizza pan... Its super easy to make pizza in a cupcake pan.. Google it. It really is a thing. :-)
@@mrheng562 well I already bought the OSMO ACTION and knowing they were eventually going to create an audio adapter... I just had to! 👍🏽 I wonder how or what DJI will do to combat GoPro Hero 8? 🤔 Maybe more firmware updates/features? Im loving this Osmo Action MORE than my GoPros.
JKPinPDX, I think eventually I will migrate to Osmo Action for that front facing screen. GoPro making an attachment for a flip up is going backwards. It didn’t go so well with the GP4, so why bring that back? Also, audio input without adapter is a must have!!! Or, GoPro is just better neglectful.
@@mrheng562 IF GoPro 8 (or the next Osmo Action Pro) has... NO audio adapter needed (Maybe wireless bluetooth audio would be great) so that the camera can remain water/splash with external bluetooth capabilities.... and a bigger front facing screen with no lag... THEN THAT would be a KILLER FEATURE SET for us Action Camera Users/Vloggers! HEY GOPRO/DJI... are you listening?
I just received a Movo WMX-1 wireless microphone today and the lavalier mic is not working correctly when using the Cynova adapter. I made sure the Receiver and Transmitter were paired and I plugged in the TRS cable into the Cynova adapter that plugged into my Osmo Action. The mic icon on the Osmo Action shows up but it is grayed out. I speak into the lavalier mic and the mic icon audio meter doesn’t move. The Cynova adapter should be working because it is producing a mic icon. Is it not compatible? It works fine with an external mic. I'm stumped. Any thoughts?
Great video! Do you know if this could work to inject timecode into a drone, such as the DJI Mavic 2, which has no inputs ports other than a USB-C connector? Since this adapter has a USB-C adapter, I'm wondering if I could plug it into the Mavic 2 and use a Tentacle Sync timecode generator, which can create timecode via the audio port.
Osmo action released a new firmware right before gopro8 launch. Delay latency in 1080 and 2.4k now fixed. Hyperlapse added. Can you please make a video about it?
I have to ask- what if I don't want the receiver to be on top of the camera and just record separate audio and then sync it in Post? (since I saw some reviews that say that the sound with the adapter to the Osmo action is no good) is that possible? or does the Rhode wireless go has to be connected to something in order to record?
Thank you for this. I ordered the camera today along with some accessories. I also ordered a SmallRig cage that states that the cynova adapter fits. I hope it will! Came across your video after I ordered everything. After a lot of research, I opted for the Osmo camera over a GoPro. 👍
Howdy Aldryn, an excellent review of the new Cynova adaptor for the OSMO Action, it's about time! Without a doubt, using the adaptor with a Mic or the Wireless communicator is much better. The Rode Mic and Rode Wireless set is fantastic, clear audio and pickup is excellent. You have created a unique Vlogging Rig that lightweight, great video and that has superb audio, nicely done! As always, a well balanced and fair review and testing of the new Cynova Adapter, Thank You!
Great review, would you be able to make a follow up video taking a deeper look at the audio settings, guessing myself and many others have the same questions.
Well, I thought that the captions are wrong, but it looks like the adapter cuts higher frequencies so that the external mic sounds worse than the internal one :-/
@bitsaround do you think it's the adapter or the windscreen? Windscreens can affect high frequencies. When he went to the lav mic, it seemed... less bad. Maybe that's because the comparison was to a more distant internal mic vs. the lav mic that was closer to the audio source (i.e., his mouth) though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hello, Just like to ask if you put the CYNOVA mic adaptor from the camera, is it water proof? I like to try it to use while doing my moto vlog. Cam will install to my helmet. My worry is if the rain falls.
Hey, product : rode go 2 ,one of the transmitter did not capture audio using the cynova adapter in osmo action. But the other transmitter was able to capture the audio using the same rode cable with adapter in osmo action. My question is why second transmitter did not capture whereas the first one did. Is there anything I need to check
