⭐️ Best price for the DJI Osmo Action: geni.us/e8XBl (affiliate) What's up everyone?! I hope this review of the DJI Osmo Action was helpful. Did you like it? I wasn’t sure I was going to like this camera but it’s a great value. The image quality is very good for an action camera and the stabilization is fantastic. Was there too much detail? Not enough? What did you like, and also, what did you not like? What would you like to see more of? Would love to know what you think, good or bad. I am grateful in advance 🙏
FYI... I have read this will be $30 off for Amazon Prime Days. Might be worth waiting a couple days if anyone is looking to pull the trigger on this purchase right now.
Great review. thanks Tech Gear for keeping us update. I will be grateful if you give a detailed review on Canon G7X Mark III with special emphasis on live streaming
It's 2021, a new DJI may be looming, however, I'm so glad I chose DJI over GoPro - has been "Rocksteady" and the firmware updates have kept this wee action cam up there.
This channel delivers nothing short of the top tech reviews on RU-vid. I practically know everything I need to know in order to make an informed decision. Loved the sequence at 09:22 where you exemplify the different ND filters. Simply ingenious. Reviewers usually apply the ND filter unto the lens to show the differences, but your way makes it so clear to understand. Great work Sagi, as usual. Loving this.
Thank you so much brother! I'm glad that demo was helpful, I wasn't sure about it and appreciate the feedback. Thank you again for your continuing support!
I’ve watched many of your videos now. You do a great job. Not sure why you haven’t blown up like MKBHD. You will one day. Question regarding the DJI Osmo Action and Go Pro devices...can you zoom in and out when recording? I haven’t really seen that in any videos.
I have this camera over a month now and it really good so far even the battery last longer than the gopro. No problems so far the only think annoying is the double click on the screen to switch to the front one
Great review. Would you still prefer this over Hero 9 or Max or soemthing else in 2021? I am not sure what to get as I want to get something to put on my helmet and record the scenery when riding. Also I don't have a smart phone and will only use Win10. Do I need a smartphone for these things?
I love your videos. You are so professional and get to the point. I love that you show how the settings work also. A true review. I really feel that I want to buy this as a slow mo b-roll and a 3rd camera.
Thanks! Depends on what you want. I like that the screen is integrated here - but with the new GPH8, you can but it as an accessory with the media kit.
Very helpful, and I am going to buy it anyway? I am a photographer and now trying to get into recording my trips and much more. Watching the various videos on You-Tube I like what I see being said on this product, it has a lot of versatility and it is well built. Now what is the limit of how big of a card it would accept? Can it go 256 gig? And if shooting at 1080 the battery would last longer? You mentioned you had it on the dash of your car, how long where you able to shoot a video before replacing the battery? All in all you gave a lot of information, thank you. Cheers.
This was usefull and great review. I want ask if this camera can use bluetooth mic for audio?? Or there is no option for Mic at all. I was going to buy this for shooting daily vlogs... This cost so low that I can buy other accessories with it rather and buying just GoPro...
Great review. Those running shots look incredibly steady, really rock-steady, but forgot to mention it does not have a GPS (from DJI ????) which I love using on my Hero 7 when traveling and the image delay on the monitors when using rocksteady makes the camera unusable for quick action. So far no way to get audio from an external microphone and internal audio sucks, so will just keep waiting for Hero 8 and will see if GoPro finally makes something that fill our wishlist.
Before buying A6400, I came to know about your channel and it helped me out. Thanks for that. Just one question, for Motovlog, which one to buy?? DJI Action or Hero 8?? It will be kinder if you reply to this.
Tech Gear Talk sure! I would have a question if possible. What drone do you recommend for a quite moderate use? I mean, something that provides a decent photo/video but not too expensive as it will be rarely used. Thanks in advance!
Thanks a lot for the advice! I decided on a Mavic Air, will purchase it in September, so ai will be able to enjoy it in my next holiday. As about the Osmo Action, after 2 weeks use, I find it just great. The interface is very friendly and easy to use, front screen helps a lot and easy to mount as it’s compatible with the GoPro accessories. For me personally, Osmo Action is the best action camera, I like it more than the GoPro. But for general users taste, I would say that if it’s not better than the GoPro, than it’s at least the same good. Thank you for the great helpful reviews, looking forward for the next ones!
Thanks for the great review! Am seriously thinking about getting this for our hiking trips. I know you said it has a built in microphone. For armature hiking trips will it sounds decent? Like for conversation between me and my wife and say back ground running water sounds?
Anothe amazing review Sagi. Those quick presets and front side screen is huge seller me too. I have the 7 black though so for now I’m sticking with it. It’s amazing what DJI is doing.
Thanks Eric. I really like those features from a user experience standpoint. The screen would be enough to make me switch because I'm so bad at guessing where the camera should be pointed, but there are tons of people who are much better coordinated than me, lol. I promise a GoPro with a front facing screen is coming out next.
Thanks Peter. That's a good question. It's not something I noticed at all. The case allows for airflow and when shooting, I was pretty much on the move. I have never thought about it until you asked, which makes me to believe that it won't be an issue.
I wish I had seen this review before I bought my GoPro 8 black, with having no diagram built in, ND filters are a must, but fitting them on the GoPro is a real pain. The round threaded lens on the Osmo and the front facing screen is a winner. I have tried every mode and positions trying to get steady video when walking to no avail, when walking with it mounted on a selfie stick I get up n down movement, and when I mount it on my chest pod I get side to side movement, so so don’t believe the b/s about these cameras being gimbal killers, as I am now researching which is the best gimbal for the my wrong choice of camera
I had the H7 Black and sold it, and yesterday I ordered the Osmo Action, but I was worrying whether it's an upgrade over the H7B or the opposite. I feel like I should have waited for the H8B, which will definitely be an upgrade, but I have already made my order. Your video, however, helped me feel less guilty for buying the Osmo Action after ditching the H7B, because you said that the EIS is better in the Osmo, and that the front display is good to have. However, I wish it is capable of maintaining the EIS while shooting HDR, and other reviewers complain about its low light performance as well as the digital sharpening of objects, the lack of external mic connectivity, and the lack of detail in highlights and shadows when comparing it to the H7B. I hope firmware updates solve some of these issues.
Hi and thank you for the insight about your process. It's true, it's not the greatest in low-light and I'm curious to see what they do with new firmware updates. The H8 looks very interesting - can't wait to play around with it. Please let me know what you think of the Action when you get it
Seen some comparison videos of the DJI Osmo vx GoPro Hero 9 the video was pretty good for what I wanted, but the sound quality was terrible, I just wonder how it be with an added external mic.
Really helpful! Thank you! We're headed to Long Island, Bahamas to do some snorkeling in February and we were debating on a GoPro or something else and after seeing several reviews on the DJI we're sold on that front-facing screen, ease of getting to the battery/memcard, and intuitive touch-screen settings. VERY helpful-----thank you so much!!!
Greetings from Indonesia, Boss, I have a DJI OSMO action camera, when it is turned on for about half an hour the camera is hot, then condenses on the lens's glasses, so the video results are blurry and a little darker. Well my question, Why is that a factor? Then what is the solution? please help with the explanation thank you before
@@TechGearTalk correct. I’m going to get one ND filter for now. Which one would you go for for movies. I can’t buy the ND filter kit now. So if you had to choose only one ND filter which one would you get from that kit. Cause as you know we can buy them separately. Thanks
I think the camera is great and with accessories like cages, usb-c to microphone jack externals, and coldshoes it's a great camera and better than a lot of cameras at it's price
Hi there, thanks for nice review and I have a question for you 😀, if you remember settings you been making video in the sea, fishing and on yacht ⛵, and did you use any ND filters??? If yes which ones?, because I'm going to Thailand and will try to record myself Jet-skiing 😀 So it definitely be very sunshine outside but a bit worried if you put a ND filter the camera will not be waterproof 🤔🤔🤔 Thanks in advance 👍🎥
Hi, I have 2 questions: How about lag on the display when you have rock steady on? Is it fixed? Secondly, i shoot food/recipe videos with my DSLR. However i am planning to buy Osmo Action for slomo. Do you recommend it?
Hi there, I was never really bothered by the small lag. As far as slow motion, it will give you a much different look than your DSLR, so as long as you're ok with matching the footage, it will work.
Hi and thanks for the very informative review. Im new to filming and i was wondering could i use this say the DJI Osmo Mobile 3? SO instead of using a mobile phone, is there an adapter available that could merge (Osmo Action and Mobile 3) the 2 devices together?
Glad you liked it! I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'm sure if you searched Amazon there will be an adapter for action cameras to phone gimbal. That would be really stable!
Great video. One question is does it have the "style" setting that the mavic pro has? Looking to shoot in D cinnelike and want to adjust sharpness, contrast, and saturation and keep all the settings the same as my mavic pro? I edit in iMovie which doesn't have a sharpness adjustment so everything has to be adjusted in camera. Lastly as a Realtor I'm trying to find a good camera that I can do a semi professional job with a interior walk through? How do you feel the camera hold up to interior lighting and being super stable compared to the osmo pocket? Thanks once again.
Hi Trey - I no longer have the camera so I do not remember. I believe that it does - but I'm not positive. It's probably similar to the Pocket. You're giving up a 3-axis gimbal for digital stabilization. They will both struggle in low light, but a flat profile will help get better footage.
Hi I have just bought this camera to use in a golf simulator, I am new to video so what settings would be best for recording a golf swing in full speed and in slow motion Thanks Niall
Great video! I am torn between the Osmo action and the GoPro Hero 8. I am going to be using the camera for documenting walks/virtual city tours and some vlogging. Which would you recommend?
Thanks for the quick response. The front facing screen is important but I’m more concerned about picture/ video quality to capture walking /landscapes/city architecture etc...I don’t really want to spend £100 plus additional parts.
Got it. But if you had to make a choice between better quality on the GPH8 + the additional parts vs convenience on the Osmo Action, what would you pick?
Tech Gear Talk I just ordered both of them lol. there are too many pros and cons. I think the only was I can truly decide is if I play would them both. Many thanks for the help!
How was the mic? I am using an Olympus tg 5 which is great but the framing is a big issue for me as well, and the stabilization isn't great... So I was thinking of upgrading to a GoPro hero 8 or the osmo action?
Thanks for the review. Bought one and it would be great to know what you would recommend for gadgets that I should have as a starter. I skateboard and intend to use this to record my progression etc and it includes bowl and pool riding which is high-speed and involves large areas. Not in first person mode but third person if that makes any sense. Much appreciated. Even better will check if you have an unboxing etc and setup. Your delivery of info is perfe t and clear and convincing.
@@TechGearTalk awesome response. Shall add no doubt my young ones will want a go in the water with the cam so that is exactly what I need mate. Thanks again!
I own the GoPro 7 -- I need the Super Wide Setting -- on the GoPro -- plus the internal audio on the GoPro 7 is far better. -- I would not be happy with the lag on both screens. Plus the picture quality is far better -- without any color correction -- on the GoPro 7
@@StankoBeronja Check some reviews that add GDrive/ DropBox source footage - I did my research. And I can confirm that 'if' stabilisation (RockSteady) is turned off - 4K recording (raw) is as good as GP7. However I have seen jitter on the corners when it is on, and H.264 old codec that is only supported on DJI is lagging with data. The flip side of using h.264 is that due to this cpu of DJI does not hangs so much as GP7 G1 SoC does (read forums) trying to process h.265.
If you can't attach a microphone, is it possible to record your audio separately and then combine A/V in the editing phase? Or does it put you out of sync if you do this??? Thanks, Col (A Newbie ;))
@@TechGearTalk yes i had go pro hero 5 and sold it to buy hero 8 but now i will go for osmo and this is important for me because i want the camera for hunting.
thank you for the video... just picked up an Osmo Action a the front screen is really what I was looking for... i currently shoot video's on my youtube channel with my GoPro Hero 5 Black... Question.... I took the OSMO out to shoot a video it was very bright outside and when we loaded the video my zip up jacket is a medium green but in the video it appears brown and I look yellowish... I'm I going to have to use a filter outside to correct this issue? I had not picked up these filters yet....
You're very welcome - glad it was helpful. What you're describing sounds more like the wrong white balance than an exposure issue. What white balance option did you have selected?
Tech Gear Talk I’ve never had to select a white balance on my GoPro ... I started playing a little bit with the setting but I’m going to have to play more and see what results I get .. and what more videos
Hai bro, how can I fix it to a helmet and use for moto vlogging? I'm a beginner. I ordered one by watching your review. How is the stock mic quality? Can it record our noise clearly without affecting wind while riding?
@@TechGearTalk No, not the sound of the bike, I want to record my speech while riding. Because I intend to review new motorcycles and record my voice while riding. (Sorry for my bad english). I uploaded a lot videos in my channel using mobile cameras (you can see that if you visit my channel). This is the first time I'm using an action camera. One more thing. I got the DJI osmo action camera and I feel it awesome. Thanks again for your awesome review. Rocksteady is awesome..
Great video I just bought the osmo action I have a question about the light pollution filter I primarily shoot live performance videos of local bands would this filter help the low light performance in a club environment with multiple stage lights?
That filter normally helps cityscapes at night where it removes a yellow tone. I've never used it in a club where there are potentially different color lights. Are you unhappy with the current footage you're getting? What about it?
Tech Gear Talk I am using a combo of the zoom q2n 4K and an iphone w a wide angle lens was hoping the osmo would be a nice step up for low light capture as a second perspective camera from side stage will have to wait and see still waiting for the osmo to arrive will have to test that filter at a show will let you know how it goes
I have the Osmo Action and the GoPro 7 Black - both have great features. For action scenes, prefer the GoPro, otherwise they are similar. Imagine Gopro will start adding a front screen.
Tech Gear Talk you need to research and watch other reviews. Get better results with the GoPro when filming action shots. Test it under various action shots.
Nice video. Can you plug the Osmo into an external battery pack while it's mounted? Sad to hear you need to use the housing in order to mount...which might block these ports? =(
Hi. I don't know the exact life of the battery as it will vary based on resolution and features used. Yes, you can connect it to a power bank (I constantly did this). I don't believe it worked at 120fps - I'd have to double check.
Is there a remote for the wrist available? There are many situations where neither direct control with the buttons, nor voice commands will work. And can you record video and timelapse photos at once? For example 2,7K video @ 60 fps, and taking a photo every 2 seconds at the same time? This is something I would love to have...
@cameraflyer That's a pity and will probably prevent me from buying the DJI Osmo. Photos + Videos at the same time maybe still could be made possible with a firmware-update, but still I need a hardware remote (and not a smartphone app only).
@Lea My guess is that DJI is testing out the market. The lack of an accessory like a remote is 100% going to be a deal breaker for some users and I can't imagine they won't want to capitalize on that segment. As far as shooting a timelapse and video at once - can you tell me when you would use that? I shoot time lapse for 2 reasons: 1. I am trying to use an exposure that is different than what I could get by just speeding up video. 2. I want to save space (vs shooting a 30 minute video that I have to speed up). What would be the use case for wanting a time lapse if you already have the full length video that you can speed up (always looking to learn about new concepts).
@@TechGearTalk I would like to take photos and videos at once in situations, where I am moving fast (so can't do one after the other manually), and probably will only be there once and then never again. Without this option you have to decide wether you want to record the landscape as video or as photo. Very simple example: Skiing in a region / terrain, where you're only able to ski down once. (and I don't want to take just single frames out of a video, I need high resolution photos in case I want to have it printed on a huge canvas)
@@TechGearTalk Just a question of firmware-programming in my opinion, it should be possible. But since I want to use it while moving fast, and without knowing when there's shadow and when there's sun, auto-exposure would be enough for me (also auto ISO, because a manual low ISO could result in too long exposure for movement). My GoPro Hero 5 already is able to record both at once, but only with reduced video-resolution and framerate. 2,7K video @ 60 fps already is too much for the Hero 5, but since the latest generations are able to record 4K @ 60 FPS, 2,7K video @ 60 fps and highres-photos every 2 seconds should be no problem. I have no idea what is possible with the Hero 7, I really would like to switch to another brand (if it's at least on par), I already had way too many bad experiences with GoPro within almost 10 years now.
great review bud, really struggling with my 7 hero black here in Eastern Canada in the cold, im on my 3rd DJI drone,Love there product which brings me to your video, now if i can just find some user reviews on its battery use below 0 cels.
Loved this review however I am yet skeptical on any glitches, lags, dead batteries or freezing of the camera. But this review did help me decide to go for it or no
Very good review, it looks like great action camera and the footage you showed was good quality, about the only downside is the sheer hassle of dragging through the DJI registration. With my Osmo Pocket I had to bother a neighbour with an Apple tablet to get it registered and this is one aspect that would hold me back from buying the camera.
Thanks so much Steve 🙏 I totally hear you. They need to either remove it as a requirement - or expand access to it (even maybe a micro usb to any computer).
After having mic adapters come loose and losing the audio, I've found it much better to use a separate lapel mic, such as the Tascam DR-10L. So this wouldn't be a drawback for me.
i just bought a gopro hero 7 and had to get a new one from gopro. for some reason it would power itself on. gopro replaced it, the new one does the same thing. really thinking of just getting my money back and buying the dji. i purchased a lot ox accessories for the gopro, will they work on the dji? batteries the same?
im broke. I want the 7, but the action 1 turn out cheaper. but what function and features the 7 have and the action does not? I see hyperlapse and narrow angle, but no one talks about other functions
what happens to activation if i buy dji osmo action from used market ? do i need to reactivate? and does previous owner must remove activation on mimo app first ?
is there a lag when you record videos ? try hit record and moving the action left to right right to left and see if the image on the screen is live or 1-2 seconds lag. ive seen other reviews complaining about the lag that makes it a bad action camera. I'm not getting it for action use anyway i'm thinking this (for the wide angle) or pocket im leaning towards pocket now. So would you mind to do that for me and let me know if the action has lag?
The Osmo Action and Osmo Pocket are very different. I have the Pocket and really like it, but with the much narrower field of view, it’s not as good for filming yourself, but is excellent for walking around filming other things or doing nice smooth pans and tilts and getting “cinematic” shots
