Thanks Z.. The choices one has today is absolutely mind-boggling. The gimbal features are definitely getting better and better with the help of AI. It’s very interesting to see software AI compete with hardware AI. In my opinion, I think hardware AI gimbal , the Hohem M6 is more versatile because you can use it with ANY PHONE, any OS, be it iOS or Android regardless of age or model. As a matter of fact, if you can somehow attach any action camera to the Hohem, you will have a AI controlled action camera gimbal as well. Wouldn’t you?
You are very welcome. Yes the choices today are crazy. The AI tracking makes a big difference. That is a good question about the action camera. I think I’m gonna send Hohem question about this.
Hohem did confirm on one of their facebook post comment section that we can attach action camera but obviously can not control it through app, I got mine M6 2 weeks back and Gopro is balancing very well (not the best fit though, some sort of strap would be good if one of the 3rd parties can make it) and yeah I also tried with media mod and I was just about able to fit my gopro with mount in M6 but afraid that I'll spoil the rubber clamps on M6 due to media mod cold shoe mount cutouts. Overall it works with action camers but could be improved 100%.
I wanted to add, I just got the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 and it DOES film in 4k/60fps with my Samsung S23 Ultra using the Mimo app. Yay, finally! I played with the Hohem iSteady M6 as well, I did like it, but it was a bit big and not as portable (OM6 folds easily). For me, the winner is DJI Osmo Mobile 6, but I can u derstand why others may prefer the Hohem, it is a great gimbal and does everything and more than the OM6 but for me, I value smaller size and portability and the fact that it can shoot 4k/60 with my Samsung in app, seals the deal for the OM6 for me.
I had the Hohem M6 for a day but the pan motor lock would not stay unlocked. Every time the gimbal turned the motor would lock and it was not useable. I didn’t trust the little plastic lock to last long even if it was replaced so I returned it. Still looking for my perfect iPhone gimbal.
@@ZdenkaDarula I just got the Feiyutech Scorp Mini P smartphone gimbal. It s terrific. Well made. Takes the weight of my IPhone 13 Pro in a Smallrig cage with anamorphic lens and adjustable ND filters without any problem. It’s payload is around 500g. And it’s very well priced especially given the quality. I tried the Smooth 5S and while it can just handle the weight without the cage but with a Moment case, the arms are not quite long enough and I found they hit each other doing certain movements. I’m trying to figure out how much I will care about app integration. I have filmic legacy which works with the Smooth 5S. But I much prefer the handling of the Mini P. And the shutter button on the Mini P works with Filmic Legacy which is handy.
This video dropped at the right time and is perfect if your wallet cant get em all. I am trying to juggle the pros and cons of each gimbal especially with the weight limitations and features. Great side by side comparison and execution, making you choose what matters to your needs. Thanks Zdenka!!!
I am getting my m6 delivered today. I prefer that I can use the native phone app with the gimbals ai attachment to get great shots and i'm not restricted to the apps camera system. I would love you to do a video review of the different apps camera qualities. So trying different scenarios, low light, bright light, high contrast environments etc so we can literally just see the difference in video quality between the app and the phones native camera app without any detail on the gimbal stabilisation or features. Love your work, keep it up!
Thank you for your request… unfortunately there is no visual difference really… RU-vid compresses videos so if I post it here, there will be no difference…, you might only see it on your computer screen
Hey Z, thank you very much for the invested time and this great video. I have a hard time choosing a gimbal for my daughter. She plans to make cooking videos on TikTok and / or RU-vid. Which of the gimbals would you recommend for her one-girl-show (no camera-man and so on)? Right now, I believe the insta360 would be the best choice? Thx in adv
Hoping you don't consider this comment "too long" to read to the end, as there is a very important question awaiting. But, before I get to that... THANK YOU for being the first...and, at least as far as I'm aware, only...person to cover the use of Android phones with these gimbals (ESPECIALLY in regards to the just-released Insta360 Flow). All...and, I do mean ALL...others have focused exclusively on iOS (which baffles me, considering Android handset usage outnumbers iOS usage by approx 10-to-1). Also, thank you for going into extreme detail regarding the functions of each gimbal, and how they truly compare against each other. So far, in the other videos I've watched, they either only covered the basics, or haven't even done an actual comparison, despite what some of their video titles claime (ones even had the words "in-depth comparison" in the video titles, yet there was no actual 'comparison'...the video was nothing more than an overview of the features of the three gimbals in the video). Personally, I've got Zhiyun Smooth 3, which I've had for several years, and I've been looking to replace it. I also use a GoPro Hero 8 Black, and recently added an Insta360 X3 to the collection. Within the next few months, I'm also planning on adding the tiny Insta360 Go to the collection, as it's perfect for mounting on, or in, RC vehicles (for a "first person" perspective). The question these past several months had been - between the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 & Zhiyun Smooth 5 - which to get...and, then, out of the blue, Insta360 releases the Flow, adding another contender to my list. Truth is, when I was just considering the other two, the handheld tracking features was the most important feature, to which I was leaning towards the Smooth 5 (as it seemed to have the better tracking between those two). However, seeing the tripod tracking feature of the Flow, that feature also became of extreme importance, as I instantly realized how valuable such a feature could be when shooting RC videos. At the same time, I wasn't even aware of the Hohem M6, so now I need to consider all four as possibilities...but, still, 'which'. So, taking into consideration those two features - handheld tracking & tripod tracking - between these four gimbals, which would be your 1st & 2nd choices (in order of preference), and why? I'm hoping to place the order next week, and would really appreciate some input/insight into those specific features related to these gimbals. 🤙🏼
Thank you for your comment. In your case I would go with Insta360 as tracking will be best for you and you will much easier time…. I wouldn’t even consider a different one .., I didn’t catch what phone you have.. I hope iPhone as Androids don’t have much there yet…. If you have an Android I would stay with DJI
@@ZdenkaDarula Thank you for your reply...and, regarding the Insta360 Flow's tracking, I've come to the same conclusion. As for which handset I have, it's the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Regarding Apple, I'll just keep it "polite", and just say I'm fairly anti-Apple. As for the DJI, after watching several reviews, it seems to have the worst (or, close to the worst) tracking. I realize DJI's compatibility with Android handsets might be the best (my current/third drone, as well as my first drone, is/was DJI), but I'd MUCH prefer "tracking reliability" over "extra features/functionality & Android compatibility". Besides, as mentioned in the video, Insta360 is constantly releasing app/firmware updates, so it's (fairly) safe to assume that at least some (if not all) of the features/functionality the iOS version currently has over Android should (sooner or later) come to Android.
Congratulations on your content, I wanted to ask what is the best option for the Samsung s23 ultra, for me the most interesting is the m6, is it compatible with the s23 ultra? thank you
I honestly cannot answer that iPad I don’t have that phone … it is heavy and big phone so something like M6 would most likely be good choice but when it comes to compatibility please check on their website …. Best wishes
It's really a tough choice between the Flow and M6. Flow is better suited for mobile filmmaking due to its portability but the M6 is such a polished product in almost everyway. Feels like your can't go wrong with the M6 whereas the Flow could benefit from another 1-2 hardware iteration. Either way, they are both amazing products and I'm happy with my M6 (which I bought after watching your review 🙂)
It is a tough choice. But they are both made for a different purpose. Insta 360 would be some thing I would have in my purse but for big filming I would use a Hohem.
I got the M6 recently and like it a lot! But with my phone (iPhone 14pro max) mounted, you can definitely feel the heaviness of the gimbal and phone. Solution? Buy the Insta360 flow for casual shots and M6 for more planned out shots or Solution #2) get the old dumbbells out and work on these biceps 💪 😅
I was researching about gimbals and watching videos to choose the best option between gimbals and your video was very useful for me and now I realized that your video was uploaded 10 hours ago And this was very interesting and cool for me
@@ZdenkaDarula At that moment, I was thinking that I finally found a video that is exactly what I want, then I saw it was just uploaded, and I was like WOW wtf what is the chance of that 😂
I wanted to buy dji, but you made it easy, I was hesitant about hohem, I will buy it. You made it easy to do it, but why is hohem low price, is its raw materials good?
Thank you very much for your kind words. DJI is simply Nona brand so they can hike up the price quite a bit. Hohem is still relatively new but they are having great products lately
Thanks! I need some help with deciding whether a gimbal will solve our use case. We have a daughter that plays a lot of basketball and we film all of her games with an iphone. We use a tripod from time to time, but space is often so limited in the gyms we play and it's often tough to fit a tripod on bleachers. So, most of the time we hold the phone horizontally and film which is tough on our hands and arms. I'm thinking that a gimbal would be more comfortable and allow us to use the joystick to move the camera side to side as the players move from one side of the court to another. Is my thinking correct? Is it overkill to buy a gimbal for this purpose? I'm leaning towards the 360 or the Hohem, but their may be better options that are less expensive considering our limited use case. Any help or recommendations that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Bloody hell that's one awesome video. Thank you for covering all the bases! Specially the bit with android!! Literally every one out there uses iPhone apparently (which I guess encompasses North america), thank you so much for doing this. I am split between the hohem and insta 360. Insta360 does have a superb app though, but the hohem supports tracking in 3rd party apps in android with the sensor which is great too.
You are very welcome. I’m glad he found the video helpful. Yes it is tough call those gimbals are both good. One is more compact though and the other one is a bit bigger.
Thank you very much. I’m glad you like the video. Yes, unfortunately android phones are difficult. From what I was reading online doing some research many articles say that basically phone makers don’t give access to their cameras so it is difficult for developers to make it work. There are also so many different kinds of androids, and they would have to literally program every single android to make it work so it’s not really worth it because they would have to invest huge amount of time and money. The gambles sell for couple years and then new one comes out.
@@ZdenkaDarula exactly I've been learning that out the hard way with buying phones (Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo) from online stores that are not meant for the country I reside in (USA). I love the phones and hardware. Just the software is left with so much more to be desired. I just can't seem to make the move to the dark side 🍎 lol. Thank you so much again for all that you do 😊.
How far away can a subject be with each gimbal if you want to begin tracking? Not begin tracking then have them move away. Rather how far can they be while still being able to start the tracking? Thank you.
Hello, it is really admirable that you are responding to all comments. I had a small question, I will place the order according to your answer. Out of boredom I bought Gopro hero 9, my phone model is 14 pro max. I'm thinking of getting the 15 pro max when the iphone 15 comes out. Do you think it would be more logical to buy for a gimbal that I can use both Gopro and my phone? I think the powerbank feature in Smooth 5 will be very useful for Gopro. Because Gopros charge in 1 hour :(
@@ZdenkaDarula is there any way to use gopro with gimbal? I've seen a case model where you can place a Gopro in the camera part of the phone case. Do you have information
do you think the hohem isteady m6 tiny remote control is a must have? unfortunately the kit i bought didn’t come with it so i was wondering if i should just order the remote by itself right now . i’m using the gimbal for recording content for a restaurant .
Thankyou, that was for a newbie very comprehensive. I have an Android it is interesting that it is not as well supported. For instance you said the Hohem doesnt have slow motion where as my phone Samsung S22 Ultra has Super Slow-Mo, Slow Motion and Hyperlapse. Im guessing its the software in the Gimbal?
Got the 360 flow yesterday... First half the menu was in Chinese or Japanese.. today it's normal.. then when tracking with my pixel 7 it's constantly floating.. like a wobbly mess making you seasick... Then when trying live mode I can't figure out how to do it at all.. something about docking the app and allowing others to be on top? Huh? It's ridiculous. Finally with my small Spigen case on the clamp pushes the volume buttons... I give up.. this simple gimbal is a PITA to operate. I'm a professional videographer with full size mirrorless Nikon's using a MOZA air and mini-p.. no problems.. I'm sending this thing back and getting the Hohem.. it seems better for my uses.
Yes, it is not ready for android phones yet. They should’ve specified it on their website or launch a bit later once they actually finish everything…. I think in your case, Hohem would be the choice.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. For Samsung Galaxy s23 Ultra Which gimbal stabilizer would you recommend me hohem isteady m6 or zhiyun smooth 5s?
Are these your kids? Great energy ,really helped with comparisons etc. It looks like Hoem isteady m6 is the winner here. The stability is 2nd to no one… thanks for your comparison. On seconds viewing I’ve changed my mind. It looks more like Zhiyun Smooth 5S. Because you can connect a Mic?
Does anyone know if any of these would work on something like a Huawei P40 Lite. The dang thing does not have Android installed so I'm trying to find a Gimbal that is compatible with my Huawei
Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer but very soon I am planning to make a video about the best gimbal for android… I will be using Google pixel seven pro but hopefully this should give many answers to all android users
I'm torn between hohem vs. Insta 360, I like the insta 360 because of the tracking and it's kinda light, it's good for fast video and easy to set up. I like also the stabilization of hohem and it looks more professional but it will take time for you to balance it and also I have tiny hands I think it would be heavy. I have android phone btw. Which gimbal you think is better for me? Thanks in advance!
The insta360 Flow Is now the insta360 Flow PRO. 2300mah battery (20 hours) and reverse charging plus included selfie stick and animal tracking. Perfect for my google Pixel 1 that has zero battery life, but takes great photos, and for taking video of my Quail & how-to videos... all in my pocket. If I was a serious videographer, I would pick the M6 for the added weight capacity (for lenses and for usbc lav mic dongle). The flow Pro now has a cold shoe mount for hollyland Lark M2 buttom mics, and i can use the usbc dongle on my real phone. Just note, this video diesnt discuss the new Insta360 flow PRO.... much improved battery
Great content, therefore i "had" to subscribe. I am in the market for a gimbal for my Samsung S23 phone. I am leaning towards an DJI OM6, but i am not convinced by the price. Greetings from Timisoara, Romania!
I am going to buy a first gimbal . I am thinking of Hohem m6 or insta flow. My concerns are about learning curve and editing in app . Insta allows to edit in their app. But hohem doesn’t have . My question is which one is easy to learn. And is insta edition app good ??
The learning curve for both gimbals is the same. It really doesn’t matter which one you choose it honestly is the same to learn that. You should be looking at as if your phone is compatible.
I’m torn between either the Hohem or Smooth 5s. I like the built in light on the arm of the smooth and zoom/focus wheel. Hohem I like the bigger payload and more accessory ports. Not to mention Hohem gives you a case at base price where smooth doesn’t. My previous gimbal was/is a Hohem iSteady x2 which served me well but time for a upgrade. I use a gimbal extension mount at the handle base with a wide led light. Also need to use a wireless mic so have to mount a receiver. I have likes and dislikes if both which is why I’m torn. Any feedback from anybody is appreciated 😊
@@ZdenkaDarula I actually went with the Smooth 5s cause I liked the ability to use the wheel for zoom, and the practical built in led light. So far I like it but discovered a major flaw that concerned me. This would be the active tracking mode which is enabled by single clicking the trigger. If you are in the midst of recording and want to use it will cause a pause with a black screen in your video then load the object tracker. Worse than that now your audio is greatly out of sync from that point forward. So unless you active this BEFORE recording then it will destroy your video audio sync. The fact that it’s a single trigger click and can easily be bumped when holding worries me. I did reach out to Zhiyun in hopes that they will provide a way of disabling it in settings for those of us that don’t use it and may accidentally hit the single trigger.
@@A.RI.EL. honestly there is going to be no perfect gimbal. Each one is going to have its perks and cons over another brand. That being said I don’t regret my purchase of the Smooth 5s. I used it all day yesterday on a trail hike, and aside from some user error struggles(was my first time really using it and new to me). It worked beautifully. I found my concern with accidentally hitting the trigger isn’t a issue as with your hands heating a bit your grip on the handle isn’t going anywhere. I do have a iPhone and noticed that some gimbal apps like to choke down the direction of the microphone which was my only standing issue. I like how I’m native camera app the iPhone captures more ambient noise all around including my friend I’m talking in front of me on the trail. You could hardly hear him as the microphone seemed to want to focus only on me behind it. I wish there was a way to toggle off the choke on the microphone direction but that’s more of a iOS iPhone issue I guess. Who knows. Wireless mics are my solution to that. I didn’t try the Hohem and honestly can’t review that for you. But I had the Hohem x2 and I enjoyed it minus audio sync issues on any video over 20 mins long.

I'm a huge fan. Thx for the content. I have yet able to find a phone gimbal that can hold the weight and thickness of a Samsung Fold 4. Do u know if the insta360 flow will work with the fold4?
Great review!! One issue i have with the m6, Wont stay unlocked!!!I'm on my second m6 in a week span with the same issue!! They have an issue with the lock button, it will not stay in the unlocked position. Once it rotates a full 360 it automatically locks back. Any suggestions?
Wow, thanks for you're review. I am here watching because I bought a smooth 4 sealed for 10.00 at garage sale and when I opened it and looked on YT how to use...wow so complicated for what I want to film and actually all have a learning curve and I thought gimbles we're more plug and play lol. I film jewelry hauls and flea & antique markets so I have a feeling Zhiyun smooth 4 will be something I just won't reach for because of me fumbling with it and the weight. Am I overthinking this and give it a little focus time and learn the smooth or switch to a simpler one? any input appreciated.
To be honest, all the gimbals are having the same learning curve so it doesn’t matter if you grab something else or if you grab the one you already have. The more you use it the easier is going to get…. You might be surprised by you will get it faster than you think.
Thank you very much for your very informative video.. im new subscriber here in Philippines.. very informative, it helps me a lot. Godbless you always.
Thanks for sharing! I just bought the Zhiyun Smooth 5S. From what I can see from my Samsung 10+, is that I have to purchase the Premium+ subscription on StaCam if I want to use it all. But the problem is that there are 2 Premium+ subscriptions. Premium+ Member and Premium+ Pass. The last slightly more expensive than the first. But no place explain the difference between the 2 premium features. And no answer from Zhiyun... Do you know the difference between the 2?
You are very welcome. This is a very interesting question. I am unfortunately not familiar with their pricing or the differences but I will for sure ask. If you want to send me a quick email through my website so I have your contact …. once I get the answer I can just forward it to you.
Yes, it is good for iPhone for sure. If you will be filming with filters then you will need to add some counterweights…. But if you will be filming just in automatic mode, you don’t need anything.
Love your videos. I was waiting on this one to drop as I have yet to decide which gimbal. I has decided on the Zihyun but then saw in one of your videos that this would involve an app subscription to get the best out of it. I want to use my native software and I think after today I am looking at the Hohem, primarily due to the stability, because that after all is why I want a gimbal. Thanks for your independent fair reviews.
This video was very helpful to me! Well done! I need your help. I am an interior designer and I would like to buy a gimbal to make videos of my projects with my iphone 14 pro max. which gimbal die do you recommend? thanks so much for the help
If I want tracking a rc car (crawler) at 60fps 1080p... what is the best choice... I know insta360 do tracking objet but at 30fps... I heard hohem can track face with the original app of your phone. So 120fps ..60fps .. but does tracking objet....?????
Unfortunately, object tracking is not available outside of Hohem app. The sensor is made strictly for faces. Right now the best bet when it comes to tracking object is honestly Insta 360.
