Since this is my first gimbal, my main problem is knowing what is the proper characteristics I should expect from a gimbal. For example, when I'm walking, it camera would want to pan on its own without my feedback. It got to the point that I was ready to return it since my handheld work seemed much better ...lol But something about your video finally clicked with me that I think I finally understand what the settings are trying to do (for example, deadband). I'm going to give it another week.

@@MomentumProductions1992 Hey! I think I had figured it out. When you demonstrated the response of the gimbal when you turned the handle and adjusted the settings to stiffen it up, that was the secret sauce for me to wrap my head around the settings! Thanks again for the video!

Very nice, thank you for the useful tips. A suggestion would be to record the footage from the camera on the gimbal each time, so we can see the results of the adjustments you are making as well. I know it's more editing work but might make the tutorial even more comprehensive... Anyway thanks again :)

Completely forgot to add, massive thanks for the video. Just got mines and I’m all set for its first shoot. Moved from the Zhiyun Crane V1 to the Ronin S. It feels like the real deal whereas the Crane felt like a kids toy haha!

the most important setting is the deadband but it's counter intuitive when it's set to high, the actual gimbal will respond very slow

Man! This Video helped me a lot, I bought a Ronin SC and my first shoot was a concert and I only balanced the gimbal. Once the concert was done and I was reviewing the video it was not smooth and shaky the whole time :(

After a year of running the Ronin as-is, I finally did some customizing. Already feels waaaay different, but I have yet to try it out on actual shoots. Pretty sure it will make quite a difference though. One thing to mention, the app changed quite drastically since this videos, you cant set high, med, low, per axis anymore, just for all axes together. Or maybe I missed that one.

I'm new to this as well and have been a bit lost since it seems like the app has changed compared to the older videos. I believe you can get the same thing if you go under user profile and either under your M1, M2, or M3 tab there is the "speed" choice (right under the image of the ronin) and that can be changed to low, medium, or high. Let me know if that's what you were looking for. Thanks

Super clear explanation. Always curious what deadband was. Guess I could've looked it up, but this was well done. Just wish there was shot-by-shot examples with the different parameters. Anyhow, thanks for uploading!

I think the biggest thing you can do to get better footage from the Ronin is getting a dual handle setup. This dude is jacked but if you're not it's way easier to control movement and get smooth footage with 2 handles.

Honestly I owned the Ronin S for about 30 days and no matter how much I adjusted the smoothtrack settings I could never get it to feel “right” for me. I ended up returning it and got the MOZA air 2 and I utterly love it, right out of the box it just seems to flow better with my style of filming and movements (although it’s also really easy to adjust). While the Air 2 feels a little bit “cheaper” I feel like it’s just a better gimbal (although I do think the Ronin S is still good)

Although the app is different, the information is easily applied as tilt, pan and roll still work the same. People that make comments on here about outdated information have more than likely not watched the entire video. Thank you for taking your time to educate us.

When I connect my Ronin-S to the app I don’t see the same options such as “Configuration” all I get is Balance Test, Motor Parameters, User Profile, and Status.... When I go offline with the Ronin, I’m able to select “Ronin 2” and that’s when I see all the options/settings you’re talking about. What am I doing wrong?

I tried the nikon z6 with my new ronin s but it's not stable at all.. I think it's one of the worst gimbals in existence, it doesn't stabilize anything at all. I also tried to make slow movements up and down to try the tilt ass and the clip goes completely jerky because the stabilizer is not fluid..

I noticed it too, however I think you have the access to it, but the app has been updated with more control over the Smooth track. You can go from low Smooth track to high effect. If you find that option, you most likley have it already activated. If I remember correctly you will have to go to the User Profile section, scroll down to the bottom, press the Controll button and at last go to motion.

is there an update for this app. When i open my DJI app on iphone on the main screen it only has CREATE, BALANCE TEST, MOTOR PARAMETERS, USER PROFILE, STATUS. When i hit the motor parameters the only option it gives me is AUTO TUNE mine does not have the SMOOTH TRACK or any other options other than AUTO TUNE

Also: what would your suggestion be for a very small gimbal that is just strong enough to handle an iPhone with the moment anamorphic lens with the ND adapter and beefy Hoya variable ND filters on it? Phone gimbals can’t handle it properly even with the counter weight as adding an ND and ND adapter takes it over the payload edge, I’m hoping something in the very small mirrorless payload category would do the trick (something “1 tiny step above phone gimbal” so to speak). I’m a Canon 1DX ii shooter (with the MOZA air 2) and Ive decided to turn my iPhone into my “leave in the glovebox to have on me always/b cam” until Sony releases the A7Siii to keep my gear acquisition syndrome satisfied 😂😂 so now I’m looking a very lightweight gimbal to pair it with. As much as I would LOVE to pick up the weebill I feel like even that may be overkill.

With the latest ronin app on Android am not able to set different values for pan, tilt and roll. I somehow have to chose the customized profile and chose which axis smoothtrack will work on but I can only set the settings globally for all the axis, am I missing something?

Hi, I am using ronin s with the latest update and sony a7iii connected by USB c cable. I am able to start video recording by pressing the button on the gimbal so I would assume it is connected correctly but when I want to do panorama or timelapse the gimbal moves but the camera is not taking photos, any idea how to fix this? Nice. Quick question. I'm using a 5D Mark IV with an ultra wide. A little heavier than what you are running. I'm getting a little rocking motion on the y axis (forward and back) in the movements. What setting should I use to correct for a heavier camera in your experience on the tilt.

I recently got my Ronin S. I have managed to balance it somewhat well (Sony a5100+Rokinon 12mm lens) except I can’t for dear life get the vertical tilt balancing straight up how it says it’s suppose too. Tried adjusting the plate the camera sits on and nothing. Maybe the lens is too heavy? Anyone know how to fix this? Don’t want to cause any stress on the motors, can someone please help? 🥺

I have been trying to troubleshoot, update all the firmware according to DJI Support, and have been messing with the settings myself. A friend of mine simply pushes the M button twice and his automatically aligns to portrait mode and stabilizes... mine does NOT. So far, the DJI support team hasn't been helpful. I just got this expensive device and cannot even use it. Can anyone help? All of the support videos and forums are outdated.

Hello! thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with us! i have a Sony A72 and a Ronin S (just bought it) when i turn on the camara the follow focus from the Ronin activates and starts making a sound like its working really hard, and it doesn't connect with de camara. How can I do deactivate it??? Help :D thanks againg!!!

Hi Josh am using my new ronin sc and i have issues with footage i get from that ! it is more shaky or has jitters ,BUT in the ronin sc app it shows my gimbal is balanced correctly .! any suggestions brother ?
