On the 29th of September 2013 it was exactly 70-years ago that the Halifax bomber DK259 WL-L crashed near Boekelo, The Netherlands, at the Kwinkelerweg.
A group of four local people took their time to research the story of the plane and his crew. The result was amazing. All the plans the group had changed and the end result was a memorial day at the crash site in Boekelo. Many family members of the crew came from England, the USA and Canada to be part of a very special weekend. Not only everyone payed tribute to the crew, also an unique bond grew between the family members and the research team .
This memorial video was taken by Sherry Horne, the daughter of tailgunner Clarence Hovey.
The monument we revealed on the 29th September is in honour of the crew of DK259 WL-L. We will never forget them.
