DKOldies Is Reaching New Levels Of Scam 

I love how DKOldies said to the cleaners “please clean”, but they couldn’t be asked to do their job properly. They should go be investigated into their business practices.

They are violating consumer rights big time.

Imagine getting sent back a product being told "do this" and you literally just throw it right back in their face having done absolutely nothing to it as if they're not going to immediately tell everyone.

Let the war against DKOldies begin

I love DKOldies! They are consistent about their services of NOT refurbishing consoles and charging consumers 3 times the amount claiming they do so.

I saw a pic on reddit where someone found their old dusty ps2 that was missing for 8 years. It was covered in dust a centimeter thick. First comment was asking if he was sure he didn’t just order it from DKOldies lmao. Word is spreading

My favorite is the 100% authentic and totally not staged video they put out of a RU-vidr unboxing perfect products. Oh and free Majora's mask lmao

In Canada it also goes one step further for warranty repairs stating that “The law in Canada also states that a manufacturer cannot require a consumer to use OEM parts under the threat of voiding warranty.” This is on top of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act requirement here too.

It wouldn't hurt them at all to hire a couple people specifically for cleaning and refurbishing hardware

Here's the kicker, with these old PS3s you actually need to remove the IHS(Integrated Heat Spreader) and replace that thermal paste as well to get proper cooling. So In order to ever get proper cooling for old PS3s you absolutely need to do both. There is no way they'll have the patience or work ethic to learn how to remove an IHS if they're too lazy to replace the surface thermal paste. NEVER buy a PS3 from DKOldies.

Quick correction rich, the warranty stickers themselves are not illegal, actually enforcing them however is. A company can put a "Waranty Void If Removed" sticker on a product to scare a consumer away from opening the product, but if the consumer opens it the manufacturer is legally prohibited from refusing service

I live in the UK, so not aware of the consumer laws in USA. But ironically they could have resolved this much earlier with an apology video for their fault in the term "refurbished" if only tried and tested and if they only refurbish if a fault is identified then amend the descriptions on the website to "tried and tested". Then the consumer could make the decision on the prices for the product. In the UK, I would expect trading standards to get involved, likely arranging "secret shoppers" to get a large level of products to decide if likely to receive as described. Also when the XBOX 360 was displaying the "red ring of death" a consumer programme advised the warranty (in the UK at least) is longer than the standard year provided there is a specific defect that would likely cause fault over time that is up to 6 years from purchase (I wish they told me when my PS1 was faulty and was refused a replacement and had to play it upside down!) If a reasonable refurbished console presumes thermal paste is replaced and then breaks due to overheating, technically it could be returned in the UK past the warranty time. Obviously for old consoles decades old it is more difficult to prove past 12 months that it was repair/refurbishment and not wear and tear but again if the company just changed the description to tried and tested then it would be a fairer description as I would expect they would test consoles/products they purchase when they buy/trade stock

I think the one thing that people haven't looked into enough, probably because it's not a big thing in the US, but was covered in a totally different video about Fallout 76 on another channel. The thing I'm talking about is the perpetual "on sale" discounts that are on the DKOldies site, you can go there and see bundles and consoles that have a listed price and an "on sale/special" price. I've looked at the site with the wayback machine and those "on sale" prices have been that price (more of less, they've gone up but never lost the "on sale" discount) for literally YEARS. It's the Holiday Emote Bundle scam all over again.

Rich and DKoldies go together like EDP and cupcakes.

Hey Rich, I may have stumbled onto more info about DKoldies. I checked the comments on one of their shorts, and I saw multiple of them claiming that Deegee (the girl in the short who "placed an order") was seen before in the background of the DKoldies office, presumably as an employee. While I haven't seen it verified, perhaps it should be looked into. This could be a big deal!

They need to hire a lot more people if they wanna keep up with orders without ruining their reputation

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) makes it illegal to void any warranties due to someone opening up their products. DKOldies is not only violating the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, they are also violating the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. They are skating along a dangerous line where someone can sue them. There is more than enough evidence to start a suit against them.

Keep doing what you are doing. They didn't plan on big RU-vidrs reviewing their products and proving that their success was a fraud. It's frustrating that they can't just clean and refurbish them properly considering the premium prices they are charging.

I strongly believe that the cleaning stations they show in their videos are just they're stickering stations and before they make the refurbishing videos they have to make their trip to Walmart and It was probably perfect timing for them on the Wii video because Joey probably ran on a toothbrushes at home and just took the pack home after the video

The fact that DKOldies hasn't got lawyers involved for defamation should be a telling sign

Man there online videos of picking orders and throwing in gifts is killing it. I by no means am big in the retro game world and only today stumbled upon all the scam videos on RU-vid, kind of a shame that most people won't end up seeing these videos. They have also taken there reviews off Facebook so that says something

The first guy who did a collab on youtube shorts(the wolf guy dont remember his name) also asked on twitter that anyone who has questions about the order can ask. He did not answer a single question and started verbally attacking people on the platform. That also pretty much tells us DKoldies is paying them off, and its a pretty tough subject on the people who took their dirty money.

He didn't send it back (at least not yet) , he literally still has the filthy one, he puts them side by side. Also I do believe they opened this one up and hit it with a electric duster or something, but failed to wipe off any dust that requires more than air to remove, and they obviously didn't pull it apart to get in the nooks and crannies.

The dust and dirt is part of the refurbished process and the dry dusty thermal past is authentic and original to the console. If there were dead cockroaches and bugs inside then it's a ultra rare special edition DKOldies premium refurbished product. Swollen capacitors and other components is not a big deal. As long the console powers up and "works". It's refurbished and ready to sell with their exclusive warranty and support from DKOldies. SUCKERS 😲

The void warranty law (the Magnuson-moss act of 1975) has been around for decades nothing new, but yeah if they dont respect the warranty its illegal and can get them in serious trouble

DKoldies needs to realize that if they just correct their ethics and practices, the drama and exposing of their company will stop.

Refurbish does not mean repair. It means to make something look newer. Just because they don’t change thermal paste, doesn’t mean they are lying. They probably pop of the case and blow air through it. And wipe down the case. That is a refurbish. If it was a restoration, then I would expect a more detailed job. Yep, they are expensive, but not lying. Do I like or use them, nope. I do think there is some shade going on. But don’t order a refurbished unit and expect it to gleam like brand new.

I’ve been watching these videos from you and the other guy for awhile now and just seeing how these classic consoles are supposedly being refurbished and being scammed makes me really want to open my own business and actually give people what they pay for and have the prices be reasonable. It upsets me seeing things like this where people are being taken advantage of

what's hilarious is they could probably make a fair amount of bank by just offering an extended warranty on their console sales and being honest about it. why even bother with the refurb line? just say hey here's a console, its a little more expensive because we promise support and provide a replacement policy it if it breaks in x years or whatever. wantonly breaking both your customers trust and consumer protection laws is probably the dumbest possible move here.

The thing with shiny piano black plastics is yes, they scratch easily, but that can often be buffed out (and another fail for DK Oldies, easy to simply polish that PS3 panel and call it a day, even that is too much for them). The material I despise infinitely more is the rubberised coating on so many things that have all turned into sticky goo, no hope for fixing it. It's a nightmare.

What blows my mind about dkoldies is the fact that they are charging 260 bucks for retro consoles but then they give you 3rd party controllers and power supplies. What makes retro consoles worth money is when you have all the original stuff. An og xbox with 3rd party stuff is worth way less than one that has all official xbox controllers and cables. The only time one of those retro consoles would be worth 260 bucks is if it is complete in the box.

The FTC needs a copy of that email. Just having the sticker on their is bad enough, but threatening to enforce it is just asking for the law to come crashing down on DKOldies. Everyone that has been sent clearly untouched consoles from DKO needs to file complaints with the FTC, their own state attorney general's office, PA's AG office (where DKO is located), and the BBB. The amount of publicly available evidence should be more than enough to get some consumer protection focused agencies investigating these fraudsters. Getting a class action suit going is also not a bad idea. It won't amount to much per customer that they've ripped off, but could be quite devastating for DKO in addition to putting them on blast in a way more likely to attract media attention.

it's actually very simple why they put those Warrenty voided stickers on certain screw holes. it will make it less likely for someone who is a bit afraid to screw open his/her console and finding out the thing has neither been refurbished nor cleaned. (and i really should watch Ritch his video in entirety before i comment so i don't find out Rich already made this point... (but i shall NOT delete this comment! i shall not sir! blarrrrr!))

The only way they go out of business is if hundreds of former customers submit proof of unethical business practices. Using something like reddit to compile those transactions. I don't know how much damage a handful of RU-vidrs with fairly large subscriber counts will effect their bottom line without a significantly larger pool of compelling examples of fraudulent transactions. I personally would love to be wrong in this case but we don't have access to their accounts.

Not a DK defender, but wouldn't it make more sense to take them to court if you truly believe their scamming people/breaking laws instead of making "drama" videos on RU-vid. This whole situation feels like middle school to me.

If you look at their “Why are our prices so high” short you can see Joey hit the controller on the shelf when he picks it up. The shelf is made of plastic it’s just funny they don’t show that much care when they are filming. I hate to see how they treat it when they aren’t filming.

A bit of a correction - Jacob first BOUGHT a refurbed PS3 and inspected it and it was filthy (first pics he shows) and after emailing them, requested a replacement which was what he unboxed. I will add though that the 2nd PS3 was dusty yeah, but was in really good shape for a backwards compatible model. Sony was sending back models even worse than the first one during that replacement thing they did.

A channel called Jacob’s Reviews put up a video where he ordered a Wii U from DKO. The game pad analog stick didn’t work and they sent him a replacement. The replacement had uneven lighting. Half the screen was dim. So now he needs a replacement for the replacement.

Spawn wave made a good point about the only reason the stickers would be valid. Just to know the console the sent is the one they get back if it has issues. They should document serial numbers but it's basically the lowest effort of confirmation it's the same. But as for their claims for voiding warranty it's bullshit.
