DKOldies Scammed Me 

what pisses me off is that thanks to popular places like DKoldies, local shops put up similar prices at the store when that wasn't the case months ago.

I paid $80 for an NES, 7 controllers, super mario bros 1,2 and 3, and a lot of other things....I'll stick to local finds compared to scam sites like DK crap

Honestly if you wanted to do nothing but business and product exposing videos I could listen and watch these all the time.

DKOldies refurbishment be like, its not smashed, it works, wipe it down and sell it as refurbished.

I remember I bought a used Sega Genesis game from them years ago (they were selling on Amazon) It was advertised as being "very good condition, includes box and manual and has been cleaned". When I received the game in the mail, all I got was a dirty looking cartridge that I had to clean. It's been a while since then, but I guess not much as changed since then.

You're wrong about NES screws. Every Toaster NES I've ever worked on used phillips head screws. I believe the top loader is the first system to use the gamebit style security screws. The cart not springing back up is normal if you overtighten the screws on the cart slot, it behaves that way with OEM screws. That's totally on you for how you reassembled the console. Dkoldies is a rip off don't get me wrong, just pointing out where you're incorrect.

I got my NES from my local retro game store for 80$ and they literally opened it up to clean the pins inside the system and it was in almost mint condition visually. What a rip off

This is why I go to my local retro store. They're aware of DKOldies and ashamed of their practices and WON'T overprice their items like them.

That Joey guy always struck me as a guy who looks like a shady used car salesman.

Had my nightmare experience with scam-oldies, they only care about getting money, the most amount out of everything they sale and take no actual care or time in the items they claim. I took the risk last year and ended up with an og Xbox controller that arrived with jacked up analog sticks from them shoving it along with 4 other games in a small jiffy mailer, and the response from their customer service was a fucking joke and the whole reason I counted my looses and cut my ties with them. Avoid dkoldies at all cost, there are private sellers that put more time in effort into cleaning and making sure the item works and they sell for way less than dkoldies.

I’ve avoided them because their prices and their popularity was a huge red flag.

When I did my video on video game collecting I definitely told my audience not buy their games from dkoldies I'm finally glad that their being called out by somebody bigger to let everyone know of their scam bullshit, thank you rich!

I think the problem is that they can overprice, because people are stupid enough to buy it. They have a huge influence on both TikTok and RU-vid and created a bubble. Children don't understand that they don't need spend 2X or 3X the price just because they "cleaned it" what takes couple of minutes or the fact that Joey touched they items and recorded it... Is easy manipulation and children easily fall for it.

Goddamn dude, that's awful for the price. I was tempted to buy stuff there myself, but the price kept me back. I was starting to think though it might be worth it if they are truly in as good of a condition as they promise... nope. Glad I saw this.

I refurbish these all the time. The original NES does in fact use Phillips screws. They are all the same length except for 2 long ones located at the pin connector.

It's a damn shame about DK Oldies I was hoping the same that they weren't ripping people off. I should have known when Joey said he always plays as Scorpion on MKIII.

Went to a local convention at my town and met a super cool private collector, he was selling a fuckton of old consoles for cheap. Sega Genesis, NES, SNES, N64, etc. You even knew they worked and were in good condition because he also had a CRT set up at his booth and he would test the console before selling it to you. Got me an NES with all the wires, a controller, and a game for just 55 bucks. Then when I got back home, I realized that he had actually replaced the pins on the system too. If DKOldies just did this, they could make bank.

I’m actually more happy that these guys are getting called out more and more I don’t mind watching there videos sometimes but sometimes it can be so annoying.

I'm not American and only know DKOldies through their videos. Never ordered anything from them. They seemed nice enough, but now I might just stop consuming their content. Here in Brazil, tech is something that is extremely expensive and usually hard to acquire. My family has spent considerable money on products that weren't 100% pristine or didn't even work. So I understand your pain. It sucks when people take advantage of others like that.

Yeah I went to gametrade which is a local game shop in Green Bay. They did a good job with my PS1. It was 50 bucks and it was prestine. I brought 7 games as well. It was 150 dollars. Its sad that Dkoldies is price gouging just to price gouge

I've seen a DK oldies RU-vid short about a month ago and now it is all I see about them being a scam, I will say their price for a PS2 and N64 on their website is ridiculous.

When I found DK I was happy to see all that they had to offer even watched a ton of their videos and seen how their business works but once I started Ordering I realized their services aren’t worth it imo. They promote having a team of people cleaning their products but I got a WiiMote from them that was covered in hand sweat dirt and grease. I got a copy of SSB Melee that had someone’s name written on it in permanent marker which can easily be removed but just like the wiimote I shouldn’t of had to been the one to clean it…their prices are nuts also. I find everything I want from DK on eBay in BETTER conditions for waaaay cheaper. I’m never using DK again. Off topic but that Joey guy looks like a Fallout 3 NPC in real life 🤣

Wow, I'm sad many people have had a really bad experience with dk oldies. I did ordered two games from them almost a year ago and had no issues with them. But man, their prices are way too ridiculous compared to other places. Thank you for the video, Rich.

About 20 years ago, in the early 2000s, my dad and I took apart our old NES and cleaned it up using an electronics cleaning solution from General Motors (he was a mechanic). Still works great to this day!

Im not sticking up for DK oldies at all, honestly i could care less, but the original NES did use philips head screws, every NES ive taken apart and refurbished has had them, even my own personal one that i got as a kid brand new. So atleast they didnt lie there. Lol

I got a GBA from them and it has no issues and was sent in immaculate condition but this is unacceptable for what they charge and THEY CHARGE A TON!

It sucks how dishonest people are, thanks for doing your part in exposing them. Makes me mad when I put 3 hours into actually refurbishing an nes+controllers+1game and have a hard time getting $80 cad for it Also, all the nes's that I've worked in have had Phillips#2 Screws holding the shell together

Too many people are getting on DK Oldies, I think we should move on from them. If you buy from them, it’s on you. It’s a business that needs to be paid for there service

The NES used JIS screws "Japanese Industry Standard" they look like Philips screws but they are slightly deeper to the point. Only the cartridges used the "Game Bit" screws. It wasn't until the SNES that they started using those on the consoles as well.

Im so glad that retro game stores are available where I live. One specific store sells stuff in relatively great condition and for a decent price. I could get myself an NES in decent condition for like 80 dollars.

i ordered a dsi from them in "cosmetically good shape" recently, and the right shoulder was bashed in and would get stuck. had to open it up just to shave the plastic, didnt take long at all, but it was such a ridiculous oversight - they really need to up their quality control

The sticker that's supposed to void warranty if removed is a scam in itself. Those were deemed not legal a few years back, hence you don't see them on PCs much anymore.

Don't harass them, then proceeds to annihilate them in the review. And yeah I decided to do my research and found way better deals for that system. Dang man. Sad when people rip others off for nostalgia.

The original nes uses Philips heads screws, also the 6 bottom screws doesn't affect the function of the cartridge tray. It only holds the top part to the bottom plastic part. But other then that it seems like this system was barely tested or cleaned. If you can't put all the screws in and sell it at a premium you should stop selling things as refurbished. Packing was wierd aswell since the console was close enough to the cardboard edges to get damage during ruff shipping.

Their success is only due to the production on their videos. Their editing is really good. Its a shame that their practices can't match that.

They don't even put fresh thermal paste in their consoles and yet they charge so much.

i ordered a ps1 from them and had to get a replacement twice ... they also gave me mix matched cheap cables and controllers ... was not impressed and will not order from them again

In my honest opinion, the best thing to do if possible is to support your local small business if you have a retro game shop in your area.

On what planet is a non-CIB NES console worth $300 to begin with? That immediately has red flags and air raid sirens blaring in my head. I bought my perfectly good NES with a controller and official RF adapter for $65 Canadian from a local pawn shop. It was only somewhat dirty and the controller only required minor internal cleaning to have working fine again.

I've always had a bad feeling about DKoldies.

I follow them just to laugh at their prices while at the same time feeling good about myself getting all my retro stuff in the early 2000's when nobody cared for it and it was cheap to buy. And that's including manuals they were so cheap to buy back then.

in mexico city you can get a NES in better condition, a better power suply, 2 controllers + the gun for half the price.

Honestly, over the years my best experiences was buying from sellers with good feedback that have been in forum communities like Atariage, bought many things always arrived timely in great condition, cleaned and packaged with care because it's from like minded collectors and gamers and I have many purchases form consoles to computers to games and accessories and it's always been a pleasure. In fact I have picked up some real bargains from retro gaming forums.

The NES used standard Phillips head screws, and the cartridge tray not locking in is because you tightened the screws on the tray too tight. This happens with the correct size screws. Everything else I agree with.

Nintendo used Phillips head screws on the NES. It wasn't until the SNES that they used the proprietary screws on the console itself. Though most NES games use the proprietary ones.

So much for refurbished they literally just buy them clean them up and then claim that as being refurbished you're better off just buying one on eBay from a seller who has a good rating LMAO

I buy certain games from DKOldies, I bought them at pretty good prices from them, but I agree their video game consoles, especially their bundles are extremely overpriced, so I just stick to buying games from them, although it depends on the game and the price, iv bought 13 games from them so far with no isshus, but that's just for games.

Several months ago I ordered a Basic NES Bundle and opted for an original controller for $175. They had a discount code available at the time if not it would have been around $185+ I think at the time you could find the exact samething for $120-130 on Ebay. A day or two later I got an email describing a sale for certain games. I chose a Wii game that was $15 more than the market price to see what they would send me. When the NES arrived. On the outside it looked decent. Just a few small cracks here and there from the plastic being old and built from that material that Yellows over time. I wanted to open up the NES to take a look inside but at the bottom they put a sticker that Voids the 120 days guarantee if removed. I did take a look through the cartridge slot and it was a little dusty so I wiped it with a clean rag as best I could. The controller didn’t have any sticker on it so I opened that instead and it was disgusting on the inside. There was dirt all around the buttons/D-Pad and behind the Green electrical board. If it was cleaned then only on the outside of the controller. When that Wii game arrived. It included the Case, Manual and Disc but when I looked at the disc it had a number of Scratches on it. I thought they would have at least resurfaced it to make it look clean but Nope. Funny enough about a week later they posted a short on their RU-vid channel of Joey resurfacing 4 disc with 4 machines. Just mine didn’t receive that treatment. After these two purchases I was disappointed and never order from them again. I gave them a fair shot regardless of the higher price than the average and to me it wasn’t really worth it.

I'm going to just open up my own store like DK oldies buy and order all old games and game systems washmm them with a cloth and claim their refurbished and sell them for 300 plus dollars

I remember retro replay ( a game store that is now only an online store because covid ) mentioned dkoldies rip people off like GameStop when they try to sell their old games to them. At first, I thought mike from retro replay just said that as a business thing since I never shop at dkoldies but the more I look into it online a lot of people had that problem too.
