Befitting the end of the year, I have a year worth of impression of the Razor Gen3 6-36x56. Will is gong to join me again to offer his perspective on the Gen3 Razor. He has had a chance to compare it side by side with many other high end precision scopes out there.
The specific scope I have is the mrad model: bit.ly/3VcAXJD
I have had a chance to compare it to the more expensive March 5-42x56 bit.ly/3wNfknM and Tangent Theta TT525P bit.ly/3HOj5BU quite extensively. Will also looked at it next to ZCO, Kahles, Nightforce, etc.

Love my Razor Gen 3. The huge elevation travel is a winner for me. On 36x I was able to see my impact at a mile. Great buy!!

I know it's not absolute optical performance, but for me the best bang-for-buck, is the Gen. II Vortex Viper PST FFP. Incredible how close to the top tier glass that scope is for a fraction of the price. Would you agree Ilya?

So. Have you had a chance to conpare it to the 6-36x56 schmidt and bender. I have one now and would have say this is my all time favorite scope with grid recticle. The multi turn turrets with 39.5 mils of elevation is awesome as well as the 3 setting choice of clicks at half centimeter. Absolutely love these turrets not to mention the optical quality improvement. This may be the new King of the Hill although the Vortex gen 3 is very nice scope for the price, the new SB 6-36x56 is awesome if you dont mind spending a little more.

For me the 5-25mk5 beats the gen2 razor. And the 7-35mk5 beats them both at 20x. On my 7-35mk5 at 20x i can read all the fine print on an electric box at about 100y vs almost with the mk5 5-25 and not at all with the gen2 razor both at max zoom. Is the gen3 significantly better than the gen2? Haven't done side by side but my brother had an atacr for a while and it was very nice but there are so many horror stories about nf warranty. So if i was going to upgrade it would have to be tt or zco

Quick Q on the TT. Why do they give a ARD and not a sunshade? Does ARD degrade IQ? Which do you prefer?
@DarkLordOfOptics
@DarkLordOfOptics Год назад
They both work fine and control flare and straight light well. ARD is a lot more compact, so it is often preferred by military/LEO customers or anyone who might want to put a clip-on up front. ARD does make the image slightly darker, but with improved fidelity. It is also harder to identify the location of the shooter due to reflections off of the objective (something civilians do not generally care about). Sunshade does not diminish the amount of light at all, but it is bulkier. Personally, I use both. For most applications, I slightly prefer ARD. As far as its low light impact goes, I remember I once did a whole series of comparison tests with TT315M, including low light, without realizing the ARD was still on, so I redid it with it off. It only had a detrimental effect in very low light and even then, it was not hugely pronounced.

In regards to the Razor G3 I just ordered one but I have a general question about sunshades. Are sunshades worth using even on optics with glass as good as the 6-36 or even better stuff like TT/ZCO? Or is there a point in glass quality where they become unnecessary even for hunting situations involved facing the sun.?

@@jesseespinosa5070 That's very interesting. I did not like the color on the 5-45x as much. Some high end scopes show you a lot of texture in the image, so it has an almost pulpable depth to it. It comes from how they treat micro contrast and subtle color variations.

Price should not get a mention in any gear comparison. The difference in price between one product and the other is completely subjective to the purchaser. I’d rather just hear which is the best and which ones follow from that in order and let people decide for themselves how much they are comfortable spending.

Having visited Vortex many times, I very much disagree with you on what they spend money on. While they do have a robust advertising budget, I would be very surprised if they are anywhere in the top ten in terms of advertising expenditure by revenue. Nightforce probably takes that crown. As far as ZCO goes, while these are exceptionally nice scopes, I do not think they are the best glass out there and the measured data supports that. Definitely one of the best though.
