Extremely high level fighter.........v. dangerous and it would have been interesting to see him fight ggg. Pirog sees everything his opponents are doing and counters fantastically. What a great combination of forward pressure, defense, counterfighting, and high boxing IQ in the ring. Sad to see he got injured
It’s the touch shots then powerful shots, then the movement constant in and out and feints that really confuse guys when they face him. Defensive genius pirog is
@@ptolemny not defending pirog THAT boldly.......but.......is the statement laughable? ......so what middleweight of pirog era , would he "not be able to beat"? let me guess...GGG? ....please state ur case...and back up ur statements with facts and points , please..
QUESTION: Why are certain styles so rare to see (?) Pirog's style is a once in 25 years phenomenon. Or consider Joe Frazier's swarming, head-bobbing style. Is there even ONE other boxer in history with that style (?) Why not (?)
Pirog suffered a ruptured intervertebral disc (also call herniated disc) of his spine, during preparation for a fight against Golovkin in 2012. He tried to make several comebacks but the back problem returned each time. Too bad, great fighter and great moves. Also one comment was about his lack of power but in other fights on RU-vid he does show some power and has knockouts. I give credit here to Maciel who, like Pirog, has very good ring skills & defense!
That shoulder push Pirog does is compulsive. He does it all the time, multiple times in a round. Gets a point deducted ..and does it again seconds later!
Pirog is more a defensive stylist than Floyd Mayweather. Floyd's reaction time, foot movement, and ring Generalship are better than Pirog, thus Floyd gets hit less.
+wheelinthesky300 Agreed to everything you said except Pirog being more defensive than Mayweather. They both fight defensively to a degree but Mayweather is definitely more defensive.
I said defensive "stylist". Pirog has 3 distinct hand positions, and he transitions constantly among these positions. Floyd is mostly the shoulder roll and ducking to his right, though during bouts late in his career, he showed much better feints and slips.
@@TOrganic pirog didn't get trained by the big eastern European boxing schools, never was on the Olympic team etc. I think that's why his style is so different
Pirog pushes his punches from his elbow. That's why they're soft. He doesn't rear back, get momentum from his shoulder, as most fighters do. He doesn't step into his punches, instead punches then steps in to close distance.
That's because his opponent in this fight was extremely hard to hit. If you watch, Pirog committed to his body punches MUCH more than those he threw to the head because his opponent was defensively responsible. Had he been committing to the head, he would've gotten his ass whipped.
not a very smart boxer but definitely impressive .. I don't think his on triple G level or even beterbiev but his definitely getting there. GGG punshes way harder.
