In this video I take a road trip in an SUV, heading to Mountain Cycleworks in Asheville, NC, sleeping in the back of it and getting a feel for car camping. Later, I take a gorgeous drive to the lovely state of Tennessee, where I head over to J&P Cycles to shop for new gear, and head deeper into the mountains to make camp beside a beautiful creek.

One of the big advantages of camping on a bike is you can get back in more secluded areas drawing less attention and having more privacy.

I worked outdoors in rugged terrain most all of my life and I always liked red wing logger boots because they had 8" of lower leg/ankle support. Also, preferred them on my feet when riding the scooter.

I understand your sentiment. A good pair of boots are hard to replace or replicate. I have a pair that I wore for 15yrs. Work, plain riding, hunting, out for dinner, etc. I had 3 sets of soles put on em before I finally retired them.

We all at one point look at "van...gabonding" ! but damn it, here we are again in a cage, no smell, no wind, not really an Adventure as per said. I definitely prefers the bike over the van.But hey, who knows....As usual, a very good vlog..love it!

I just bought a pair of boots called Battle Opps 8 inch high waterproof for my trip from NYC to Houston in May. Got them on Amazon only $115. I am very happy with them they needed so little break in and they were water proof for sure. I hit loads of rain on my 3 week trip and my feet stayed dry. Good video Joe.

The biggest advantage apart from the extra storage space for ME is the protection from the elements. For my old bones it can get too hot and too cold and obviously too wet and windy as well. BUT its a lot more fun riding a bike and like you said you can get deep into the woods and be completely stealth, so I guess while your young.... rsm8

Slept in similar looking SUV w/ folding seat situations and man, I would've killed for a tent and sleeping bag! I filled the gap like you but with plywood. Then I folded the front seat down and ran a 2x8 piece of plywood from the rear to front dash. Used a couple inches of foam. WAY worse than old 80's hide a bed. No comparison with tent camping To add: I've got the same Simpson helmet. A little louder than I'd like but all of the same benefits you mentioned. The noise appears to come through the foam around the ear. I'm thinking of adding a single strip of electrical tape on the foam, up against the shell so it doesn't scrape my ear or neck. I tested it with a finger over that area and it made a huge difference!

Great video Joe, appreciate the shout out for Moto Giant, have only recently started following him, man it was a heart breaker seeing what happened to him. Myself and many others I’m sure are rethinking riding apparel, I have always worn “work boots” but am now considering true motorcycle boots. By the way Happy Birthday!

I lived in a 94 jeep xj with my dog for over three months. Three stackable cushions made a great bed. Living in a town means up early and "on the move" or they will catch you for sleeping in your car.

I traveled in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler for a while and I have done the BMW motorcycle travel as well. I would not want an SUV without 4wd especially if you like rivers, lakes and streams. I used a cot in the Jeep to sleep on which allows storage beneath it.

Hey Joe, the one major advantage I can see for using the car is, If it starts to rain before you get to your spot, and if it continues to rain thru the night, all your stuff won't get as wet. Camping in a car might take some of the outdoor adventure out of the experience, but I know as well as you, camping in the rain sucks.,,,

Here's a very small two burner stove that you can carry on your bike it is called BRS-32 and I would purchase a propane adapter and a butane adapter for it as well so you can run three different fuels in it

So much to comment on in this video. I pull a trailer and call it my two wheel glamper, or two wheel pickup at other times. I have the two burner stove, cooler, folding grill, chairs tent, etc. By myself, I could stay in a spot for a few weeks if I wanted. Especially if there's a good water source. But my mileage does drop about 5mpg and more if I do highways and interstates. So it's a trade off. But you still can't beat the feel of riding over driving.

When I heard Don describe his accident I thought of how important it is to make sure tie downs will not get caught up in a wheel if they should come lose. I had universal saddlebags with buckles to remove them. The part that tied to the frame needed to be tied so it wouldn't fall into the spokes if it came unbuckled.

Great video Joe you should check out Georgia comfort core logger there are 3 types steel toe composite toe those two are waterproof and insulated the third one soft toe water proof not insulated ordered online maybe cheaper there a 9 inch upper they have a thick pad in the ankle area have good grip don't track a lot of dirt maybe they are in your price range love that music safe travels

I recently got a pair of Forma low adventure bòots. Gotta say.. So much more better support and the comfort is amazing. Flexible enough to walk around in. It was nice getting rid of laces. Enjoyed the vid...thanks

A long way to go for a tire change, but having STS do it ads another story to the bike. Was surprised to see Allen "Suthern Superman". We did a big ride last year. I too have thought about 4 wheelin' it, but just can't give up the freedom of 2 wheels. Maybe when I hit 75, maybe. I've on carnivore since late October of 23. Have lost over 50 lbs and haven't felt this good in over 20 years. Even my arthritis has improved greatly. Thinking I'll stick with this one. Looking forward to the next video.. I'll be in California but not until mid July.
