All Grimlock wanted for Christmas was his two front teeth. He had to wait a while, but he finally got them.

I love how there's a neatly detailed neck piece on the inside, like Hasbro designed him with clear neck pieces in mind.

can we just take a moment to appreciate that the HasTak toy designers actually put molded detail on that interior neck piece that they would not have expected anyone to see unless they disassembled Grimlock?

I think the longer face on DNA Wheelie gives him a more mature look, which looks wrong because he's supposed to be a child. I think that's why the face sculpt of Studio Wheelie looks better. It's shorter and rounder, therefore more youthful looking.

I think you should check out the movable hands upgrade for grimlock, that they have on eBay.

I find it kind of amazing that the internal neck piece, that can't be seen normally, has a lot of molded details.

With how much detail is on that neck piece, along with the separate part for the eyes, anyone else get the feeling that we'll see a Toy accurate set of Studio Series Dinobots in the future?

I never caught in The Movie where Wheelie perches on Grimlock's robot shoulder until just recently on a rewatch. Landing on Junkion and the pov shot from inside the cockpit behind Grimlock's robot head Wheelie is sitting on his robot shoulder. Haha. I love these Studio Series toys giving the option for things that are literally blink and you miss it.

I saw someone review the same dna kit but didnt swap wheelies head and i told my self if emgo review this he will swap wheelies head and he did! Hoooray for swaping head.

paint the inner neck black black then do a dry brash silver if you use the inner neck

I have this kit but man, instead of the foot covers, they should've made a lighter shade of chest cover.

It’s pretty interesting that they molded that neck piece beneath the golden piece. If I remember correctly, older promotional images showed a transparent neck so it looks like they had originally intended it to be clear. The cool thing about the new kit’s piece is that it allows that molded detail to shine through now, although I agree that having the original golden piece looks better.

So the Goriila glued lower teeth from Nonnef did indeed come out again.

Man, at first I thought that transparent neck piece was gonna look tacky, but with that internal "skeletal" part from the original really makes it pop to the point that I'd be hemming and hawing over which one I'd prefer if I had this figure.

That's actually a pretty good transformation for Wheelie! It's amazing how a few extra panels can make such a difference in the look of a figure. You're right, the forearm pieces seem a little too thick but it beats having the gap. If they could lie a little more flush to the forearm they'd be perfect! The Neck piece and new teeth are awesome to have. Although how tempting was it to pose the new dino-mode hands in a "Frag you!" gesture? lol!

It looks like the forearm covers are screwed together, so i wonder if you can just take off the inner sides to make them thinner.

The head sculpt looks like a Tiki Head to be honest. LOL

I already have like...60% of what's in this kit, all I really need is the new dino arms and Wheelie. The foot fillers were definitely appreciated, as were the dino teeth.

The only thing I like here is the dino arm with wrist and finger articulation. The clear neck is cool and would totally go for that if they were going to do the same upgrade for all the Dinobots.

You said it’s too thick but you didn’t even pop the tab into the insert on the hand lol caught you slippin😂

i think the arm fillers are so thick becuase if you look atthe oither side of the arm its also thick so its made to balace and center the wrist with equal bulk on either side. Is that a good choice, well thats up to each person but i think thats why

Is there an upgrade kit to change/replace his optic color from blue to red (in either robot or dino mode)? I'd love to have the feature from the Masterpiece line where Grimlock could switch between red and blue optics in either mode.

The clear would have been better as a smoky grey like the original chest.

Try switching the arm pieces use the front screws.. it fits better..

Did you actually get from bbts? Because I hace had it on pre-order and pushed back and still no idea when I'm getting it.

The question is though, which kit does Grimlock upgrading better? DNA Design or Noneff Productions?

This may be the first time in Transformers history that a whole new Wheelie figure constitutes an upgrade!

I think it would look imbalanced if the fist covers were thinner because the outside forearm panels are also quite thick. Wish the neck parts were a different color, though. The day-glow yellow is a bit much.

I don't like the headsculpt either, I think it's the eyes that throw off the look. Glad to know you can swap in the original

Im convinced that Hasbro deliberately leaves gaps and holes, so that aftermarket companys can make stuff. Why is the piece inside his neck so detailed when is covered by solid, smooth pieces? Looks awesome though!!!

It's too bad they didn't allow for the Wheelie, that was in the studio packaging, to transform. It's too bad you don't have a precious to compare with the DNA Wheelie. That would probably be odd to stand like mine now is ha ha. Yes! Screwing!!

The clear neck is good but them not adding a clear chest makes it a miss for me as even if you get the non smoke clear chest cover they won't match. At least with the stock neck it matches with the rest of the chest.

First time I've seen an Upgrade kit that feels...kinds weird? Don't get me wrong, the idea behind DNA designs is GOOD, but it's also kinda making the effort of the original toy designers (in terms of details the feet panels cover up) feel like they've been plastered over? And the transforming wheelie also feels the same way, just in a "hey, we're going to entirely replace this figure" way. Teeth I'm fine with. Am I crazy for feeling like this?

Hi Emgo, first of all, thanks for your review, great and very informative as always! But I have one more question, can't you just take the arms and legs off DNA Wheelie and put them on Hasbro Wheelie? The ball joint from the head just fits without any problems. I just like the Hasbro chest better. Hope you understand me, I never had English in school.

I always hated the way the trex head hanged on his back in robot mode.......that would be a great improvement in future versions of the toy

Cool, but, I thought you did an upgrade on this before with front teeth added? Different aftermarket maker? Or, maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. I would prefer the transparent neck to be smoked like it used to be on the g1. I would just keep the original gold neck otherwise.

Wish they had just redesigned the inner forearm half entirely and made it as a replacement. Other than the molded detail, those forearm pieces are crap, chonky, clunky, and barely fit, and really stand out like a sore thumb. Isnt Hastak doing a core class wheelie? Curious if it will replace the one that came with Grimlock, or will it be larger.

Glad to see this, the kit doesn't seem with it for me. So cancelled my preorder of it. They gap fillers I had before is good enough.

Great review as always, but got a tinsiest of curiosities. in the Nonnef you used a little bit of glue in a few spots on his head, but in this review said glue is missing. Did you end up having to replace the figure or get a new one for this review, or something else?

Welp. I would go for this kit if not for the odd choices of the bright yellow translucent plastic for the neck piece and the noticeable size of the forearm covers. Compared to the product images the kit just isn't what it should be. Shame. The Wheelie is the best part of the kit, and it's _Wheelie._

Some people don't like Studio Series Wheelie... I don't like Wheelie. Period.

I just want the arms, teeth, and sword. The forearm pieces are too big, the feet fillers serve no purpose, and I prefer the Legacy Wheelie.
