DNA origami: how to fold a double helix 

This totally saved me for Biology homework due tomorrow (lost instruction sheet!)

If you need help with the twisting part and you're just barely getting the shape, I find the best way to finish the entire twist is to fold the remaining piece of the paper in the pattern that is given. So basically, fold diagonal then straight, repeating.

who else had trouble with the twisting part?

If you need help with the twisting part: 1. make sure your diagonal creases are made well and are not overlapping the white part as he said in the video. 2.Make the diagonal creases more hard (fingernail) and lift the white tabs up more. 3. Twist first, then push together, try not to disturb the diagonal creases while doing this. 4. Try it again. 5. If this doesn't work, you can either restart, or do this: 6. Hold the paper horizontally. So its longer upwards than sideways, if that makes sense. Then take the first diagonal crease from the top in your fingers. Put the second diagonal crease in the same fingers, and keep moving down. this should make it all fall into place. Once you get to the middle, keep your hand there and to your best to do the same to the bottom portion. It'll be kinda hard, you'll have to maneuver around the white tabs which can be annoying. Stick with it. 7. If it still doesn't work then your creases are fucked. Hope this helped! Thanks a bunch, helped me with my project a shit ton! Like this so people can see! :)

I legit got triggered with the twisting part that I squished it completely together and threw it across the room... guess whose getting an F

The dislikes are from the people who messed up with the twisting part.

if twisting it doesnt work (most cases it wont), just try folding it bit by bit. if you made sure all your creases are really good, it will eventually work.

seriously...., follow the instructions and it virtually twists itself! Hugely satisfying, first time 'right'.

Thank you! I have been racking my brain all week on how I would make my son's double helix and this is the easiest demonstration I have found!

For people having trouble with the twisting part, if you start at one end, you can 'step' the model together. So at one end, put the first fold together, then the next and so on so forth. It will come together like a spiral staircase until you have the whole thing together and you can start checking the folds as shown.

The end confuses me I have no idea how to get it to twist like that

i have this model from a paper and u can't do twisting with a normal paper, like from a printer
