this was my favorite song as a kid and like a scrambled/gibberish version was always stuck in my head bc i forgot everything about the lyrics and song but i knew it was always playing on the radio so i just hoped one day nostalgia would bring it back and ???? im so happy oh my god this song is so good
I remember buying her first hit "Luka" back in the 80's. She got mixed reviews in the U.S. because the subject and meanings of her lyrics were not easily understandable. Luka was about child abuse and many people didn't get it. In Europe she was viewed more as a progressive! I have always loved Suzanne.
This is so reminiscent of my childhood, my mom always loved Suzanne Vega and this song specifically. I remember driving around with her listening to this whole album when I was really little. Then it started coming on when I worked at an overnight diner, and it’s just such a wonderful nostalgia. 🖤
This song has this sense of familiarity, it feels like it depicts how mundane life is. Seeing people come and go, watching your surroundings and simply living your life.
I figured it out, the beginning sounds like centuries by imagine dragons and the tune is the same as "when the closet no have kiwi, I went to find my roomie, my roomie at my kiwi so then I ate my roomie"
@@andromadae.aileen i did actually, i heard it ages ago on the radio during a long ass three hour drive at night, and couldnt remember any of the lyrics besides the humming parts in between the versus. turns out when you search "whats the song that goes du-du-du du-du-du-du", google cant help you all that much 😂😂
At that time, the song was very suitable for learning English. We had discussed this song at school. It's very clearly sung and simple. The song reminds me on a good time.

I was in High School when this version came out. It was one of those songs that you either loved or hated, the first time you heard it. I loved it then and still love it. It was quirky and different and appealed to me because of that.
"I am thinking of your voice...' The line that really summed up the songs theme... Simple free style poetry with all its evoking imagery that sparks off redolence & memories....
I agree. Just going through my day… no one or nothing in particular interesting … but the bells remind me of a special someone… someone who I would greet with kisses and would only pour half a cup of coffee to the customer because *my* someone is taking up all my attention. This song is pure nostalgia for me in both the way I interpret it (going through my normal day and then something triggers a memory of my dear one) and my life because it was a song I loved in my growing up years. Now at 41 so happy to see youths covering it and bringing new life and attention to it! 🥰
@@yasmeenalsalhi_ 310 people liked the comment without having to have a reason to complain. Why do you have to stand out? Its just a simple, good line from the song that reinforces her mundane, daily routine. I just added my little 2 cents for a spin. There...its all been laid out for you and now the magic is gone. Thanks, bud. 👌
The journey I went on trying to remember the name of my favorite obscure 90s song with nothing to search but "duh-da-duh-duh-da-da-duh-da" .....So anyways, I'm here and happy.
all I could remember was a song about a woman in a diner reading a newspaper...thankfully Google immediately listed Tom’s Diner as first search result option
@@sistersamich2075 Soylent Green - he was the executive that got liquidated by the company for not being able to handle The Secret... He was also the murder victim in Sunset Boulevard...
"Tom's Diner" I am sitting in the morning At the diner on the corner I am waiting at the counter For the man to pour the coffee And he fills it only halfway And before I even argue He is looking out the window At somebody coming in "It is always nice to see you," Says the man behind the counter To the woman who has come in She is shaking her umbrella And I look the other way As they are kissing their hellos And I'm pretending not to see them And instead I pour the milk I open up the paper There's a story of an actor Who had died while he was drinking It was no one I had heard of And I'm turning to the horoscope And looking for the funnies When I'm feeling someone watching me And so I raise my head There's a woman on the outside Looking inside Does she see me? No she does not really see me 'Cause she sees her own reflection And I'm trying not to notice That she's hitching up her skirt And while she's straightening her stockings Her hair has gotten wet Oh, this rain It will continue through the morning As I'm listening to the bells of the cathedral I am thinking of your voice And of the midnight picnic once upon a time before the rain began And I finish up my coffee And it's time to catch the train
Not really, it’s just a catchy beat and her talking about her surroundings. This is an amazing song but it’s not exactly poetry. There’s a lot of modern day writers that have deeper songs than this and they never get the credit they deserve.
@@BozeDoesGodsWork I don't disagree but that there's much better artists/songs out there, but it still conveys a message about the monotony and loneliness of life. Unless I'm reading far too much into simple lyrics.
If this was actually from the 90s. This is 1982. You should listen to Yaz, Upstairs at Erics. Echo & the Bunny men, Flesh for LuLu, Love n Rockets, the Pixies, the Cult, the Clash. 90s was a waste.
I grew up listening to this song during the 1990's never knowing the name of this song but loving it. So guess how I found it here on RU-vid everyone; I found it by humming it through it's new search feature. Amazing!!
the song's ear worm signature singing stays with you regardless of age! been seeking it for the last 5 years ... little did i know all i literally had to do was search "song lyrics with [tata tara ta tata ra]" ... impressed!
when I 1st heard the intro... it drove me up the wall... I listened to it 3x to see if I could sing it... I could not coz I just could not get a hang of it...NEVERTHELESS.... that intro.. kept on coming into my head OMG..... today 2 years later.. I m finally able to sing it hahahahahaha
this was a song I knew as a child then forgot about it then it started trending and I recognized it so I came to it here and now it brings nostalgic feeling to me
Ive said this on another video but....FUN FACT: this song is super important to Music history as it was the song used to fine tune the compression for the MP3 Format
A friend of mine told me that she saw me for the first in her dreams..we were in a coffee shop and i was staring at her from the corner..... And that suddenly reminded of this good old song 🤗
Man I was in CAVA eating organic food and this song came on .. omg 😂😂 I quickly remembered how much I LOVED this song as a kid and now I get to listen to it again 30+ years later.. thank you CAVA 💯💯
This makes me have alot of nostalgia, like when I was younger but, I've never heard it, the beat and music just sounds.. familiar. Can someone explain why this is so nostalgic even if I've never heard it?
Did u know that there is a Egyptian version for the singer Simon it's called I'm walking and my watch is not working any more ماشيه و ساعتي مش مظبوطه Edit song name mabsota simon
when this song went viral I knew it sounds familiar so I search it and remembered hearing it as a kid such a soothing song anybody knows what she's singing about I know its stupid to ask
I think the interpretation I hear most is that this song is about how mundane life is. Ofc it can be interpreted any way but this is the one that feels most accurate.
I once heard this song in my mother's car on the radio and I really liked the song. Now, I wonder if there is a part of this song that could have been sampled in the song Centuries by the band Fall Out Boy because I have heard that song many times before and I remember there being a particular part of that song at the beginning and near the end that played a beat that sounded very similar to the humming part of this song. Just wondering.
