At 73 years of age, had my DNA done, found out my father was not my biological father, 7 siblings, only one was his biological child, god I love that man. Regrettably my twin died not knowing who his father was, as well as an older brother. Our biological father knew about us, but never contacted us, although he had 10 other children with his wife, whom all knew the secret and never told any of us.Both fathers died before I found this out. Life is very interesting as my mother died without telling her secret, loved that lady too. Life is what we make of it, no regrets, was fed, educated and cared for, can’t ask for more than that. I have 3 children myself ( I think they are all mine ) lol. Enjoy life to the fullest, don’t get hung up on things that mean very little in the big picture.

You have to remember it is not guaranteed that all of these women had affairs. Rape can produce a child. Rape was hushed up and rarely prosecuted, seen as a shame on the woman. I know a mother who loves her child and never wanted them to know that rape was why they existed. She loved them unconditionally.Her husband supported and loved the child as his own because it was half her.

I have also been the DNA test. I didn’t do it to find family..I just wanted to know where in the world my ancestors came from. Before you take one of these tests, be aware that you might find more than you are ready for. And..if you’re adopted and you are really lucky, you quickly learn what the words mother and father truly mean. They are not the person who gave birth to you or donated sperm. A mother and father are sooooo much more. Together, or individually, they are the people who teach you right from wrong. They are the persons who tuck you in at nite when you’re small and read stories to you. They are the people who “pick you up, dust you off, and send you on down the road” (slightly paraphrased from a Garth Brooks song). From the minute they hold you, til the moment they take their last breath, they are the people who love you no matter what. They are your true Mom and Dad.

DNA=Truth. At 60 yo DNA testing revealed the secret that my mother took to her grave. The emotional roller coaster ride was horrendous. As an NPE (Not Parent Expected) memories are imploded. Trust is destroyed. Families are torn apart. Your identity is shredded. The 30+-year-old family tree I had worked to grow split and half crashed to the ground. The DNA genealogist in this video is right to warn people before they test to be ready for surprises. My experience has a happy ending. I knew my biological father growing up though I didn't know he was my father (he and my mother kept the secret quite well!). Sadly my half brother died before we could meet. The rest of the family embraced me with open arms. Despite my experience, I encourage people to test because they could be the missing DNA link that helps someone else the mystery of who they are.

It happens a lot in the States that fully grown, otherwise quite savvy individuals believe they are “Italian” but they are in fact multiracial, usually African up north or the vague “puerto rican” down here in Florida (I knew an entire, QUITE obviously Black family who claimed to be white hispanic; that desire for “passing” stems from the racist history here). Still others could have Sicilian extraction and not understand how much Black is in their heritage. Most of us have pretty firm ideas of who we are established from birth by our families, and that belief penetrates the cellular level. Finding out something different can be utterly mind blowing.
@k.c1126

In Italy it's easy. Remember that Africans have been in Italy since the Roman Republic, and the interaction has been continuous since then. Remember Othello? Obviously African presence in Italy was common enough in 1500 for that play to make sense to a British audience. Being a throwback wouldn't be that unlikely, especially when the child was younger.

DNA testing revealed a few things to my family. We all suspected our grandfather may biologically not be our grandfather. He's been gone since 1979 and just last year we learned he wasn't via a family ancestor DNA site. Also I always felt my daughter, who I raised, was mine from a failed relationship with her mother , but I was never 100% . When my daughter did her DNA I was kind of holding my breath. Fortunately her results showed my sisters daughter as her 1st cousin, so I knew then she was my daughter. It would not have mattered to me if she wasn't, but then she would have become curious who her biological father was, and I'm so glad to not have to live that chapter. Yet another DNA revelation Was with my aunts. I had 3 of them. One of them was so odd and differently looking from anyone in the family that we truly wondered if she had been switched in the hospital. She was kind of crazy too and her son was eventually taken and she was committed. Turns out, through DNA that she WAS our aunt :)

I took a DNA test and found an Aunt I had no idea about. We thought my Grandpa had child we didn’t know about. However during our research we found out my grandmother was her Mother. My Grandma hid a pregnancy from her family and other 5 children. 😳 My mother is the oldest and vaguely remembers my Grandmother having to go to the hospital for a few days the same time as this lady was born. Apparently my Grandma gave her up for Adoption. Unfortunately my grandma and anyone else that can possibly confirm that has passed away. I know it had to be hard for my grandmother to give up a baby for adoption but my grandmother was a single parent of five children after her divorce from my grandfather and I guess she didn’t think that she could raise another child in 1962.

Must have been switched at the hospital or something more sinister being rejected by my mother at birth who couldn't bond with me, always feeling resentful towards me too, just trying to keep out of her way, fearing electric shock. When a bachelor, friend of the family, would visit who wanted a relationship with me & would try to pick me up & hold me, I would turn away & start to cry, which infuriated my mother who would say, "poor Alymer". Haven't yet sent away for DNA testing as they only accept credit cards, not wanting identity theft. Suspicious of everything & everyone. Thinking perhaps it is best I do not know.???

Since you are looking at this video and wondering if you should, then you really DO want to know for sure. I didn't find out that the person claiming to be my dad WASN'T until I was nine. I couldn't figure out WHY he HATED me so much until my sister told me that he was our step-dad!

Yes, you should take the test friend; maybe someone you know could use their credit card for you and simply pay them before using. Just a thought; however, you should take the test. You might find some really loving and sincere relatives who might be looking for you.

@SuperMissblueeyes
@SuperMissblueeyes 3 года назад
Put very simply, they look at how many of your genes match & if the number of matching genes is enough to confirm your relationship. However, it's a very complex process, which is too complex to explain in a comment. You would learn more from a video from one of the DNA testing websites like Ancestry or 23 and Me.

There a rumour that I have a brother somewhere and I found that out when my dad was drunk one time and my mum denies the child ever existed and that the woman was lying but neither will tell me her name and hopefully this way I may be able to find my brother if he exists it's the not knowing part that is bothering me

a few month back i transferd my dna over from myheritage to living dna and come a crose a living person i didnt think much of it and left it as that then a cousin called liz gets it touch. long story short she tells me things about my nan only what i knew like where my nan lived when she was born where she was during the blizts and where my uncles and my dad was born and where my nan and grandad lived in brtentford. so i showed my sister the message i got sent she informed my dad my sister took a dna on living dna and it nturns out the close relative i saw on living dna is in fact my new found grandad bill. so the man who i thought was my grandad wasnt my grandad.

It is common enough that their “father” is not their biological father... you know what that means? Women CHEAT ALL THE TIME !!! What’s worse they don’t just cheat, they pass a child as someone else’s biological child instead of being honest enough to say they don’t know who the father is...

@k.c1126

Sometimes the DNA test shows that what seems to be "obvious" difference is actually not a difference at all. I keep thinking about the "mixed race" twins, one white and one black, whose mothers have been constantly accused of stepping out on their men. Looks can't tell the whole story ...
@namiin3034
@namiin3034 3 года назад
@@k.c1126 if you are a mixed race twin and you follow one or the other parent that is absolutely normal, but to look like an African and your parents try to convince you, your just a throw back it's cruel and messing with the child's mind, in this film the daughter seems more accepting than the father which is a shame,
@k.c1126
@k.c1126 3 года назад
@@namiin3034 I understand where you are coming from, but I'm also thinking about a case in South Africa, back during the time of Apartheid, when a girl born to white parents, with a white sibling, was "obviously" black. They didn't know what to do with her. Eventually she left her family and moved to live with overtly black people. Later she was able to conduct some research which uncovered the fact that her father's great-grandmother was a full African of, IIRC, Namibian descent (I could be wrong about the Namibian part). Apparently the grandfather was passed as white by the great-grandfather. The girl was a throwback. All I'm saying is that it wasn't an impossibility to look African in an Italian context while having two white appearing parents. And the emotional injury to the child, stigmatized as he likely would have been as an illegitimate child, would possibly have been as great. I think the father is struggling with the entire concept of his beloved father not being his birth father as much as with the idea that he is of African descent genealogically.... not to mention the fact that his mother never said anything about it to him. I'd expect the daughter to be less stressed because she is a child of a different generation with some very different perspectives on race, ethnicity and heritage.
@namiin3034
@namiin3034 3 года назад
@@k.c1126 a case of the sins of the father/ mother etc., he was lucky to have loving parents even if they didn't tell him the truth, I think I remember the South African story that's a whole other kettle of fish, you have generations of hiding blackness or whites abandoning their children if they came out a shade darker and could not pass, even worse in Americas deep south.
