Also, resus would imply subsequent ICU care with unsuccessful outcome - An undignified death, probably contrary to the 87 yr old Mrs Brown's wishes. 😊 Palliative care would guarantee dignity and comfort.
I wanna ask a Q: the daughter mustn`t sign a form? Isn`t it the daughter`s decision to make ? How the medical team decide for DNR and go through with it without a formal paper ?
In the UK, the ultimate decision about DNR is made by the medical team. Patients or relatives of patients can not demand to have cardiopulmonary resuscitation if the medical team feels it would be highly unlikely to result in a successful outcome. This differs in different parts of the world of course. Generally, the medical team would want to discuss this issue with the patient and family members to ensure everyone understands and is in agreement.
One important point need to be added, actor should say I won't allow you people to do such DNACPR as I am daughter and I won't allow, here power of attorney and advance directive should be mentioned to daughter. It feels wrong to say that it's not the daughter's decision. She is the next in line to make it so it's absolutely her decision. Hospital may make an argument why this would not be in her mom's interest, but it may be a difficult case to win in court. It feels like whats missing is the point about moms quality of life after resuscitation. She might be saved for a few hours or days and then be back in the same critical situation and it would be cruel to put her though this again and again knowing that she won't get better.
