I really appreciated your video. This is a powerful combination and I agree with your choices if Hexblade and Vengeance Paladin. I also agree with starting off as a Paladin, and then taking the second level as a Hexblade. There are, however, a few things I would change about the build. First, I would choose half-elf as my race. As a Hexblade/Vengeance Paladin you'll be using charisma to attack with advantage when you use your Oath of Enmity. Being a half-elf allows you to take the feat Elvin Accuracy, which would allow you to roll three dice instead of two when attacking at advantage. At level three I would have moved back to Paladin until I was a level 6 in that class. You're focusing on Charisma as your highest stat. A 6th level Paladin gets to add their charisma modifier to all of their saving throws and to the saving throws of any allies within 10 feet. That's just too good to pass up. You now have amazing saving throws. The combination of Hexblade's curse and Oath of Vengeance in a boss fight has you rolling three dice for every attack and crtting on a 19 or a 20. Next I would then take 2 levels of fighter. It gives you another heal with second wind, as well as another fighting style. I think dueling is awesome since you'll be using a one-handed weapon. More importantly it let's you action surge in those boss fights giving you even more chances crit, and smite. From here there are several options. Taking 2 more levels of fighter gets let's you go Eldritch Knight to get more spell slots and a stat boost. From there you can take the remaining 9 levels as a Hexblade with Pact of the Blade.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I absolutely agree with all of your points, especially the point about being a half-elf with elven accuracy; that would definitely crank the build up to 11. I did consider taking paladin to 6 for aura of protection, and it's a tempting proposition. I suppose I was a little too focused on the spellcasting side for this particular character (which isn't wrong, like I always try to say, build the character you want to play). But you make some excellent points, thanks a lot for the comment!

That's where I'm taking the build too...but with Stellar Elf. Can I still grab spiritual weapon and spirit shroud with Vengeance Pally though?
@reallybighat
@reallybighat Год назад
@@dorobooya4721 As far as I know, Spirit Shroud yes, but Spiritual Weapon, no. You'd have to somehow fit cleric levels into the build or be an Oath of Conquest paladin to get both of those spells.

You can't benefit from multiple fighting styles, but second wind and action surge are extremely good abilities.

Really good video, I've been looking for 3/17 Hexadin for the whole day. I soon gonna start one myself starting from level 5, however I am gonna start with 3 Levels of Paladin just for the roleplay and backstory sake.

Or go turtle, no need for paladin multiclassing and booming blade and the hexblades smites could compensate for the two paladin smites. Especially since we're always two levels ahead in a pure warlock version. The only downside I see is that you weigh more any cheap mount could handle

Great suggestion! Tortle is always a good option for AC; that's an excellent point. And if you're okay with missing out on divine smite, it's a really good way to build the character.

somewhat popular build is to go 3 fighter for the champion sub class. for the 19-20 crit range. 9 barbarian. you go double scimitar and with your extra attack and reckless attacks you will be doing 3 attacks per round with re-roll. Brutal. Another barbarian route is to go 3 levels of barbarian to unlock the bear totem damage reduction. And then go moon druid rest of the way. Altough I'm not sure if it will work quite as good in baldurs gate as Larian has changed the totem barbarian by quite a bit in their game. And due to the level restriction you won't be able to use the elemental forms as they are unlocked at lvl 10. So I would propably go 10-2 druid - fighter

All good builds, I'm planning on running as a paladin 2/swords bard 10 for BG3 myself!

Hmm Warforged palading with warlock and if you start low level 13 str is enough for chainmail . So at lw 2 you would have 20 AC and the only other stats that are important are charisma and constitution.

Very cool suggestion! Warforged is a very interesting way to build this character!

I dont see enough people talking to raw power and utility of 1 Hexblade/ 6 Paladin/ 13 swords bard
@reallybighat
@reallybighat Год назад
That's a really good split, no question. I've been playing a paladin 2/ swords bard X in BG3 and it's OP as all heck. And if I had hexblade to add, dang it'd be even better 😆

@@reallybighat that hilarious because I'm doing to exact same thing but with one level dip in rogue for some extra expertise until I hit level 12, then pal 2/ bard 10

Im curious what would be the best attack/combo for this build?
@reallybighat
@reallybighat Год назад
There's always the classic hexblade's curse/booming blade/divine smite/eldritch smite if you really want to explode on something.
@tobiaspause1775

Yeah, but considering max dmg, why even go Paladin? If the Smitedmg is so close to eldrich blast? Isnt 2 lvls Warrior to get action surge better? (From pure dmg potential)
@reallybighat
@reallybighat Год назад
That's an extremely valid option, yes! You could pick up your heavy armor proficiency, grab a fighting style (probably defense for +1AC) and get action surge to turn eldritch blast into a chain gun!
@jackala2783
@jackala2783 Год назад
Keep in mind that Eldritch Blast is a _ranged_ spell and when you make a ranged Attack with a weapon, a spell, or some other means, you have disadvantage on the Attack roll if you are within 5 feet of a Hostile creature who can see you and who isn't Incapacitated. In other words, casting that cantrip puts you at Disadvantage while someone/thing is beating on you. Not a good place to be. Hitting with a smite NOT at Disadvantage, however, *is* a good place to be and will likely make whatever is beating on you regret its decision to do so.

what is the diffrence beginning with warlock or with paladin?
@reallybighat
@reallybighat Год назад
The big difference is armor proficiencies. Even as a hexblade, you only get medium armor, and you don't get heavy by multiclassing into paladin; only by starting as one. You'll also have different saving throw proficiencies, but those aren't as important.

Does this build work in Baldur’s Gate III?
@reallybighat
@reallybighat 9 месяцев назад
You'd need to adjust it a little, since there is no hexblade warlock, but it would absolutely be useful as a guideline.

Is there a particular reason why War Caster wasn't taken as a feat? Not sure how you're gonna be casting spells in combat with both your hands full....
@reallybighat
@reallybighat Год назад
Yeah that was a pretty glaring omission on my part. I'm used to playing with pretty fast and loose draw/stow rules so RAW kinda slipped my mind. War Caster would definitely be called for here.

Pack weapon is warlock spell casting focus, a shield imbued with a holy symbol is the paladin. They don't need a free hand.

I honestly have no idea; I'm not a math guy or a powerbuilder. I haven't done that kind of research when building characters. I can tell you the damage potential for the build is high, and certainly shouldn't disappoint, but I can't give you a number, sorry.
