We need to see a Memori Lich Transformation in there, especially since the original campaign guide specifically said there is only one known path to Lichdom and then the Monster Grimoire released Runa Banasár and the Memori Liches. I want to see how one of them plays from a player perspective.
While I love Grim Hollow, I have no interest in going to 6e. I understand why they're doing it from a business perspective. However, I was hoping for another Regional specific book. Ill still probably buy it, but not what I'm looking for. I was very intrigued by a recent video they did discussing how two factions had been in constant struggle for control over a region and how we could elect to support one side , or to play the both in an attempt to assert ourselves as the ruler. I was really hoping for more of that.
I'm cautiously excited. I love Grim Hollow. The transformations are actually what got me into D&D and TTRPGs in general, and I 100% want to be able to play as a Fzeg. That said I'm not looking to hand WotC extra money at the moment and would rather support diluting their market share. I hope that the new options will still work with original 5e and are easy to port over to ToV and DC20.
Better yet, people who have already bought the books should get them for free. They sold a rough draft to everyone, left us to twist in the wind for four years, and now they're back expecting supporters to pay them AGAIN for what we originally expected to receive.
I really couldn't care less about the new D&D, but I am looking forward to having a look at Grim Hollow's revised Edition. I hope I can convert it to another ruleset, be it 5e or DC20 with relative ease. You mentioned and I would really welcome it if the timeline of events got cleaned out. While I've come up for a timeline for my own table, it took some effort to make it all work. Will the Advanced Background System remain? Will there be even more advanced backgrounds than before?
Well, I know what I'm spending on this Halloween season! That expanded campaign book is pretty much exactly what I've been hoping for since...well, since I got the original campaign book! (Here's hoping, perhaps, that some of those GenCon adventures make their way towards purchasability as well, and perhaps someday full adventure paths as well; both the video from two weeks ago centered around Ostoya as well as the Burach-centered campaign dealing with collecting the relics of the Gods so as to reverse the world circumstances that permit the existence of the Great Beast were very interesting.) I like the idea of suggestions as to how to play in various places along the timeline, as well, since different ages of Etharis's history really suggest like they could lead to different "moods," and one of the most common emotional reactions to the "decaying grandeur" of dark fantasy is to imagine what it would be like to see the world as it was prior to the collapse.
Yippee! Between Alan Wake II, Warhammer 40k, New AOS, Tenjetsu, Monster Hunter Wilds, and the new grimhollow books, my bank account is going to fucking murder me. Edit: shit, somebody literally just said the same exact thing.
I make my own campaign settings but I really do love using Grim Hollow for subclasses, backgrounds, spells, transformations and the grievous wounds. I've been using a combo of Grim Hollow, Steinhardt's Guide to the Eldritch Hunt, Bloodpunk and Grizelda's Guide to Ghost Hunting along with my own homebrew sanity system. It's been a great tool for my own gothic horror and dark fantasy campaign so I'm really looking forward to these new books coming out.
I am so excited for this! I’ve ran two whole campaigns in Etharis and just coming to the end of a third. I would love to see a version of the fiend transformation without the contracts. Maybe a daemon!
I hope there will be a Demonic Ancestry in the new Player's Guide, I've been sitting on a Tiefling Monster Hunter based on Hellboy for a while now and I want to see how I can implement him with your Heritage System.
I would love to see a subclass about choosing mutations for yourself, or taking powers from monsters. A fleshcrafter. (Side note: I think the misfortune rogue would be great for a warlock too)
Any update on the European distribution centre you mentioned in a previous video? Be nice if the UK and Europe could buy the books without paying more in postage than the value of the actual product
Will it remain compatible with the 2014 version of the 5e rules? Because I have those books, and I don't think I'll move on to the 2024 redesign that quickly.
hoping for more extraplanar lore, it was very odd to have Fiend and Fey transformations but essentially zero information about how those beings functioned in Grim Hollow
This makes me happy and sad, just bought the old books like 2 months ago and have spent a lot of hours to set up a obsidian wiki for it. Hope it will be a lot of overlap so that work wasn't for nothing :P
This may not be a topic your channel covers but in my game my players voted for me to run an oppression based storyline, would you be able to make some videos off of this to help us understand it better?
This looks awesome. Do you think you could have pledge tiers to come with older grim hollow books. Especially old campaigns? Or even have them as add ins.
I was planning on getting the Grim Hollow books, but now I'm undecided. Will the Grim Hollow transformed books have the same information (updated) and more, or will I be missing up if I only get the new version?
Its good to have context now and the direction the team is going to go with. Now that some time has passed and seeing what the 5e revised 2024 (5er) has in store, while many pros there are just too many cons and is just a turn off for a player that essentially pushes me and others away. There really isn't anything new and the rules have just it made more a nightmare to balance regarding 5er. Now stuck between a void of the divided playerbase of the original 5e vs new 5er (which is unfortunate), my money is better invested in staying with 3pp content that will continue the torch for the original edition similar to how things went with the 3.5e and pathfinder 1e divide of publishers and content creators and that is a shame honestly cause I like a lot of what Ghostfire does. o7
While these do sound like great changes, I am a bit disappointed that my books will be outdated soon and they haven't even arrived yet... I ordered mine last year as a Valika kickstarter add on...
Looks awesome. I love that smaller TTRPGs companies have found a way to bring their awesome content to market. I don’t love that it is the crowdfunding model. Pre-ordering is always consumer unfriendly. But it seems to be the new TTRPGs standard. Even WotC is pushing a preorder on the DMG and MM that won’t be released for months. /sigh
would you guys ever consider making alternative versions of the book for PF2e, as I love your content but I am playing pf2e more then dnd now. Also will people who have the old version of a book get a discount off of the new one?
It's a shame it's Dungeons and Dragons, you wouldn't be willing to make a conversion to Pathfinder 2e would you? I own the players guide and the campaign guide as well but...Wizards of the Coast has done their absolute best to chase me off from Dungeons and Dragons. Other than two campaigns (one i host and one i play) ill probably be dropping 5e all together. I mean it's nice that folks like you guys and Steinhardt make it worth staying around in a fashion but WoTC no longer gets my money. It puts me in a tight spot. That being said...i think i could still use your setting itself with some custom backgrounds (which are easy enough to make) and go from there. I just dont have any experience converting 5e monsters to pathfinder 2e yet. I backed it when it was first coming out and i was fairly pleased with what i got. I wish you guys the best, truly, being tied to Wizards of The Cost right now does a lot of harm atm, so i feel bad that your setting will be avoided by a lot of folks angry at WoTC atm. Still, you all did a great job on your setting.
I also did the switch from DnD to 2e and use Grim Hollow for my setting. Using the lore is the easy part. The more difficult part for all the other stuff. I have a bunch stuff that I cobbled together, like Seraph and Archseraph conversions, that I'd be happy to share.
I'm obsessed with Grim Hollow as a setting, it's my favorite 5e setting by far! I am so excited to explore more of Etharis, especially my favorite region; Ostoya. Though I also can't wait to just explore the rest of the continent. This is very exciting. :)
The Grim Hollow setting lends itself nicely to make a lot of supernatural mysteries encounters. I like putting my players in haunted locations or towns and regions with different types of supernatural mysteries where they have to figure out what's going on before they can fight the monster. Similar to a certain mystery show with the same name. I would love some more engaging rules/systems focusing on investigation and solving mysteries. These could perhaps also be utilized in political campaigns set between nations in Etharis.
Very excited for this, though I will say that I'm hoping to see versions of the new subclasses that remain compatible with the 2014 ruleset for those staying away from 6e A side PDF with those or an alternate version of the player's guide would be great to see!
Grim Hollow as a universe slaps and that is an absolute fact. So so pleased that the campaign and players’ guide are getting updated ‘cause you can see the love and the solid concepts and the *character* of these classes and place and people, so to have more of that with Grim Hollow’s current standards of production? To die for, keep at it team!
More lore and setting info is very cool. Would very much like more adventures set in Grim Hollow to throw at players. Urban crime and horror maybe? Just spitballing. Keep up the great work folks!
I’m so pumped for this! You guys are my favorite third-party publisher! I wish I could like… pre-pledge to this kickstarter- like pre-ordering. I know the quality will be S-tier and that we’re all going to love it!
I love this SO SO much!! GH has always been my fav campaign setting and I've been immersing myself in the lore for years now. While I love the original book, the GFG team has matured so much over the years and your writing, art, and content staff is such a crack team that I know this new book series is going to be epic. I cannot wait for Oct and to get my hands on the new books! Excited to see Valikan Clans this year and just got my Citadel of the Unseen Sun Slip case. You all continue to put out quality product and I cannot thank you enough for your dedication and passion to the craft.
This video came out the day after me and my friends started making characters for our upcoming grim hollow campaign. the timing is truly impeccable. Also, I'm playing a blood hunter in our campaign, cause it felt like the most applicable class for this setting :)
Very good News! Congratulations to the Ghostfire team, i’m looking forward to join the kick starter. Hey, by the way, I have a rules doubt about the First Vampire Subclasse, could you clarify for me ? If i burn a 1 lv spell slot on a drain life attack, does the healing i get from this feature equals to 1d6 + cha + 2d8 or you only heal 2d8 ? me and my dm are very confuse. Thanks!
Grim hollow is amazing, i'm DMing a campaign in north Ostoyan Empire about a City that controls the passage between Castalore and Runeheim through the mountains and it's been very funny
I personally really look forward to this. I would love to learn more about the disembodied and Ulmyr's gate and whats going on with it in the ethereal plane. And also i would love to know more about the cataclysm that the dreamers locked themselves away in a dream state to avoid. My personal canon for this is currently they did this to avoid the Ather Kindred when they first came to Etharis and battled the the gods.
Just for the purpose of clarity - does this mean that these versions of the guide are essentially replacing existing guides? Are they made for the new 2024 ruleset in mind - and if so - will things such as subclasses stop being based on 2014 rules? For clients with existing player and campaign guides - are the changes possibly significant enough to warrant purchasing these new books? (asking in good faith as I currently do not own either the player nor campaign guide but I do have the Monster Grimoire)
If one of my players comes to me, wanting to be a wendigo and speaks in an Australian accent. Games done; they have won. Then again, a ghoul would be pretty sweet. Oh, maybe a troll or ogre?
