Do Bumperplugs work to cover up front license plate holes?
In this video I show how to install bumperplugs from bumperplugs.com to cover up those ugly front license plate holes. Many states require a front license plate but mine does not, so I wanted to repair the holes on my front bumper. I did not want to have the license plate holes filled then repainted so I bought 2 sets of bumper plugs to see how they would work out. Installing bumperplugs to hide front license plate holes is very DIY friendly and only takes a few minutes to complete. You will need a 1/4 drill bit and a set ( or 2 sets) to complete the install. This is a very easy and cost friendly way to cover up the front license plate holes on your front bumper.

Plugs or not. It really ticks me off that someone would DRILL holes in your bumper for a license plate to begin with. Whyyyyyy? smh

If'n it's a used car from a state that requires a front plate, I get it. But the dealer I bought my Challenger from drilled 4 holes in the bumper to attach their own advert plate and frame. Didn't even think about it until I went to remove it. SMDH. Luckily it's black so you really can't see them. Certainly not worth the $50 this company wants.

@@heinrichvictory Mine didn't have the plate when I showed up for the test drive. Problem was I completely forgot to ask them to leave it off, so halfway through the paperwork I remember to ask, and he calls the service department to stop them. It was too late, though, they'd just finished drilling the holes when they got the call. It was my fault for forgetting, but they still threw in a few free Mopar goodies to make up for the holes in my bumper. Mine is Octane Red so the holes are extremely noticeable haha

@@MintyGT Fixed mine with some Hillman Push Fasteners. $.65 for a pack of 2 at Lowe's. Agree... my GT350 just showed up with license plate holes... FUCKTARDS installed the plate holder... I even wrapped the plugs with he same vinyl as the stripes and it's still looks booty... time to fill and have re painted. A car is not show worthy with plugs.

Alot more expensive to get a good paint job. A well prepped, primed, painted and clear coated job will be very expensive. Slop job paint shop wont be much but will look worse than this

Thanks for making this video, I was on the fence, but now I think I'll follow through. Considering that my front bumper on a Mustang GT will be full of freeway bugs and rock scratches, I'd rather not overspend on getting the bumper painted for two holes.

lol exactly. Spend a couple bucks on easy to install plugs that look good enough or spend a lot more to have the bumper filled and repainted. These bumper plugs are great for what they are.

Try drilling a 1/4" hole with a 1/4" drill bit, it's much more successful.

I literally went on Amazon and bought a 240 pc set of assorted plugs for $20.00 When it arrives tomorrow I'll just pick up a can of spray paint from Home Depot for $5.00 and when I'm done plugging my bumper I'll have 238 plugs leftover if I ever need them for future projects. These are the plugs that hold in trunk liners and plastic fenders and whatnot. They always come in handy.

The problem here is that you must drill out a LARGER hole, which screws up the car for putting the plate BACK if need be.

Filling them yourself and using color matched touch up paint... Build a slight bump, then sand just that spot with 800. Clear coat the spot, sand with 1000 & 2000, then polish. It will look way better, and it uses materials you should already have for maintenance and paint correction.

I don't understand why they can't just make the plugs the same size as the screw holes so people don't have to make the holes bigger themselves. Just risks messing up the bumper more and won't allow you to re-attach the front plate if needed

That's how I feel. I need 4 plugs also. I can get black plugs from any parts store for $2 and a bottle of paint and clear coat (matching paint code) for like $20. The profit margins on these must be killer.

For any complaining about the look, most front and rear bumpers have bumps for sensors anyways and it's hardly noticeable or at least most don't care they're there.

Great video, thank you. Do I need anything to fill in the hold to make sure the bumper plugs never come off? I was thinking of using bondo or something to make sure it sticks for a long time.

If you had to enlarge the holes to open up the diameter to suit the plugs then you will have no issue with them staying in. Mine have been in the car since this video with no issues at all.

Color match is great for my alpine white, and they look to be clear coated.

Yes. 19 stage factory finish (same chemistry as the bumper), and 3 stage clear.

I've had my two white plugs in for not even two months and the paint peeled off them so now I have bare metal plugs and they look awful. I have to buy paint and paint them with the hope the paint stays on. I'm not happy at all with these plugs.

You have to. The bumper plugs have a specific diameter and if the hole isn't that size you can't install them. You already have holes in the bumper, no big deal to make them slightly bigger in order to cover them up.

I think I'd much rather use a touch up paint pen and epoxy the holes. Quick epoxy fill then some light sanding with a touch up pen finisher.

Pretty sure front license plates are required in almost every state. People take them off cause almost every car looks better without the front license plate. Never seen anyone be pulled over just for a front license plate being missing either.

Plenty of one plate states out there.... Delaware, Tennessee, Florida, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, North Carolina and Mississippi immediately come to mind. Michigan and South Carolina, too.
