Now i want a series where Doug and Yugituber of the week find out which "older" decks could stand up to Snake-Eyes with 3 pot of greed.

I was expecting a dead pan stare falliwed by a "No" and then a smash cut to credits. But then I realized we were on Doug's channel and not Joseph's. So I was pleasantly surprised when that didn't happen and we got this.

No. What is he smiling about? What is inside of him? Who made him? How much could I sell him for on Craigslist? Does he eat. Does he…poop? I do not understand Pot of Greed.

I love that so many of the reasons for people give for pog being okay is because "My deck building is bad, so i can draw bad cards so it's fine"

I swear the "argument" of "just draw the out" in terms of why you can unban a card is just a thinly veiled way of actually saying, "I have no reasonable argument for why this card should be allowed. I just want to play it."

All I know is that Pot of Greed lets me addd two free cards into my deck. Sure, I might need a pen and a blank piece of paper, but having the freedom to add two custom cards is so worth it. I totally understand why pot of greed is still banned.

This is a really interesting video. I actually really like the idea, and I do kinda hope that you can do this with more videos in the future. I think it could also extend to be kind of like Joseph's Twitter Threads where there's a series of you going on the community tab for example, and ask people their take on certain cards, decks, concepts, etc.

I don't understand why drawing 2 cards helps. If you drew them, they can't be official cards by konami so they wouldn't be tournament legal. Is that why it's banned?

I really enjoyed this. I think you could gamify it by having MBT (or a rotating guest) and/or you getting points for guessing what their/your audience thinks and then explaining their own opinion afterward

The problem with "pot of weed" is that your opponent doesn't know the cards you're drawing, hence it may compel the opponent to illegal plays. If your opponent draws your driver you have no way of knowing you can't activate your gamma, which may lead to some super bad judge calls.

I think the big takeaway from this video is that the people want more permutations of the pot retrains. Give us new wacky downsides for drawing two or excavating and drawing 1 😂

the last comment isn't even just an hypotetical, there was a series of unlimited events in the ocg and board biulding was so strong that POG was unplayable because it wasn't a handtrap nor engine, gracefull charity was also not played.

I would actually argue that card selection is more important than just drawing 2. By that, I mean if say a card would let you just look at the top 2 and you could add one of them to your hand but then you would have to put on car of your hand on the bottom of the deck people would actually consider it. People like to make fun of good Goblin housekeeping because it's a trap card, but say that effect of draw a card and put one back what's on a normal or quick play spell. Even if it was only looking at the top 2 or 3 cards it would actually be more useful despite going down a card you could get what you wanted.

I'll say 2 things that I always say: 1) Ash not being good in every format is a myth. It always a good sidedeck card because there are always decks you will run into that it can knock out. And no one says that good sidedeck cards are bad cards. If POG is still good even if it is only ever sided for going first, then Ash is always a good card at least in the side. 2) POG is not the best card in the game. It is a fairly good card, but it is not the best card anymore. That title probably goes to either Graceful Charity or Painful Choice now. As many have argued in this video, the format would not break if it came back to 1 or even 3. But the format would be less fun. Sure, it is sacky, but my number one reason why I want POG to stay banned is that it removes a lot of interesting decisions in deckbuilding. POG's retrains provide way more nuance and decision making on what you play and what ratios you use. And it provides a secondary way to hit a deck, because limiting a crucial maindeck card means you can't play Desires, limiting a crucial extra deck card means you can't play Extravagance. POG largely outcompetes most of it's retrains for the same deckslots.

Imo if it gets to the point where pog is no longer good, then they need to do a mass banlist to reset the power level or introduce a rotation.

16:46 the Canadian Highlander format in Magic actually has a list kind of like this. Important to note that it's a 100 card Singleton format. There is a list of extremely impactful cards apart from the banlist, called the points list. Cards on this list are given a point value, and your deck can have no more than 10 points worth of cards in it. This list does receive updates, so if a card is proving to be too powerful, it will have its point cost raised, while cards that are not seeing much play may get their point cost lowered. So something like Treasure Cruise (draw 3; expensive but can be made cheap pretty easily for a different cost) is 1 point, while Demonic Tutor (search for any card; cheap) is 3 points, and Time Vault (tap to gain an extra turn, but doesn't untap normally; cheap and easy to untap to use again with other cards that are easy to search) is 7 points.

I’m not a modern player at all, but I think the thing I think about is that pot of greed can go into any deck and be advantage. Every other “advantage” card comes with one downside or the other. Even if it is only specific to one archetype or something. Then let’s add pot of greed to those advantage decks and make them even better? I agree with you guys

19:00 I think this idea is neat, the more important thing that I think they missed is it depends on the cards on the lists, the draw spells are a no brainer but you could definitely make one much more varied and balanced.

I think it would be interesting for a pot card that allows you to draw two, but your opponent also draws two at no cost. Or else can search any one type (spell /trap/ monster) to their hand.

I love the idea of powercreeping Soul Release with what's basically an errata'd Pot of Avarice. There's already a Quick Play variant for banished cards that returns 3 monsters from Banishment(side unspecific) to draw just 1 that barely sees play since people would rather reset their GY with Burial(and said Pot can interrupt Burial as a result of how it works funny enough).

I remember way back in middle school I bought a book called Pojo's Unofficial Guide to Yu-Gi-Oh and it had a list of the top like 50 cards in Yu-Gi-Oh and at the top of that list were pot of greed and graceful charity and that both cars were indispensable in you deck. Even in 2006 Pot of Greed was considered MUST PLAY

That version of Pot of Avarice was how we chose to use it on the playground (I had a zombie deck and agreed to let my opponents use it that way). It was actually really fun

Honestly, I want them to bring Pot of Greed back to 1 simply because I'm curious whether players will use PoG over one extra handtrap they could draw going second.

Something I think people misunderstand about Pot of Greed isn't the effect. It isn't its potential viability. It isn't even the competition between it and every other card that generates you advantage. It's the fundamental gap in card design. It's the lack of a downside. Every single card in this game, whether you realise it or not, has a downside, a restriction, a specific use case, a condition, something that can combat it or interact with it in a meaningful or impactful way. But Pot of Greed is free. Two completely free cards, for nothing. It's the same with Graceful Charity and Painful Choice. What's meant to be a downside actually helps you in so many more ways than you could imagine. And Pot of Greed, in the same way, is *just* a plus.

You know what I think? I think this video is absolutely amazing, and you both should totally make the whole idea into a series. Maybe one that only gets uploaded once or twice a month, but one where we get some nice and deep discussion about ygo from two guys who are both knowledgable AND good at expressing ideas and game mechanics. Actually, I wouldn't want such a series from any other two yugitubers. So yeah. That's just what I think. Oh, and fuck Pot of Greed.

What if you ran a master duel tournament series with Pot of Greed at 3? We could then see what happens as the series progresses. Do the meta decks want to play it? Will it bring some rouge decks into the meta? Would anything actually change relative to the main game? I'd be interested to know.

Im it, cards qill allow you to height an opponents decks which means you can look at the top 3 non land cards and pick one and its taken over the format due to 1) the fairly deep dig (esoecially since it ignores lands), 2) being allowed to choose the card you want, and 3) one creature card that allows you to play a heist card once per turn for free

When it comes to Prosperity and Greed my main thoughts on the two were in the case of both being at 3 and you opened all 3 (master duel deck shuffler should go to a casino with how many full houses I've drawn) during that current turn if you activate prosp and it gets ashed you committed resources and are restricted with 2 other currently bricks in your hand, but if you activate greed and it got ashed you committed nothing and you can still activate the other 2 and end with a proper 6 card hand with potential starters and extenders or eat through 2 more negates that could stop a starter you already have in hand.

Side note i really like this kind of video feels very interactive.

Can my boy Sinister Serpent come back in his original form? As you said Raigeki isn't really played. Back then it was great because at minimum it was a one for one against a threat like Jinzo or Black Luster Soldier, at it's best it's a one for five. Now it has to potentially activate through an omni-negate, and if you clear six monsters from the field it doesn't mean much because a ton of effects go off. The player might get searches off of the destroyed monsters, graveyard effects might activate from other monsters when field monsters are removed and a bunch of new bodies appear on board, and so on. Also PoG being possibly powercrept can be a scary thought if cards become universally that powerful. What would that mean for hand traps? What if the ideal hand was all in archetype cards and could play through a full hand of hand traps?

25:17 Regarding the last comment, I think it's worth mentioning that Jesse Kotton was running 3 Pot of Desires in his fully functional Tearlaments deck during the Master Duel WCS. Despite the drawback being fairly detrimental to Tear's strategy, he still considered the draw 2 powerful enough to run 3 copies. Would be hard to imagine a future format that wouldn't still appreciate POG given this choice.

I think the Engage example is interesting since it was brought up in regards to striker snake eyes, obv Engage is a lot less strong outside of its archetype because its designed to work best in that archetype specifically, but I think there is a case to be made that Wanted is the archetypal version of Engage for Snake eyes since it searches a card then later draws 1 with the shuffle effect, would we consider it to be stronger than PoG in SE? It can only search 1 card from that deck as well, not any card but it does help fulfill its draw 1 condition by setting up a search for a SE spell.

I fully agree with that last point. I picked up gold pride/P.U.N.K when upstart goblin went to 3, because surely that's the strongest gold pride has been for a while, right? It has to be insane! Well... Let's just say upstart was one of the first cards I cut when I realized I needed to make room for crossout designator

I like the theory of the "Legendary card" banlist as you called it, but the practice would be just as you said, with people figuring out the one specific card that's better than anything else and just running that. Graceful Charity is a fantastic example, because if there is one draw-power card I would call better than Pot of Greed in this game, it'd be that card specifically. However, there is a potential in a format based on "Conditionally unbanned" cards. Taking a note from Magic, it could work off the framework set by it's Canadian Highlander format, where strong, busted cards are given a points-cost and players work within a certain ratio of points in deckbuilding with which they need to buy permission to include those cards in. Suddenly, what was a binary, ultra-simplistic choice becomes something worth considering. Say the ratio is 10 like in C.Highlander and Pot is costed at like 7, equivalent to Black Lotus in cost. The card is now basically restricted to 1 and comes with the question of whether you'd want to sink that many points just to play with a goated card like P.O.G or is it worth it to get something like a whole playset of something lower-costed, like a Glow-Up Bulb (Just tossing out ideas here, don't mind actual power-levels in practice). Depending on what you want the intentions of this format to be, this could also be used to balance around current tier 0 decks. By placing low, 1-point costs onto their key playmakers, you don't necessarily bully them out of the format, but you restrict them from taking advantage of the full list of crazy-busted cards. This is something I think could have potential. There would of course be issues to solve, not the least of which being using the framework of what was designed as a 100-card singleton format into the mold of YGO and you'd need a person more qualified than me to make it work and be fun, but if the day comes when some mad lads pull it off, I'd be first in line to test it out.

I really do think that pot of greed will come back at some point in the future. With how crazy power creep can be just throughout the game’s history, I’d have to imagine a card that’s just a +1 with no restrictions might not even be considered that crazy anymore
