Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

You are quite the philosopher: "If we bring it home, it won't be there." Deep, man, really deep. Yeah, no controversy around Def. Users of Def that I have heard talk are not so much against the added cost of adding Def, though that is a concern. The bigger issue is what it screws up on the equipment. Chris of LetsDig 18 has a pretty new dozer that started throwing codes went to limp mode because of a def issue. Did it a couple times It was about 15 K to get it fixed. I could be wrong on the figures but it was a real nightmare. Nope, no controversy there!

I'm an engineer and frustrated at the poor roll out of emissions technology. Unless a business is hugely profitable, it doesn't make sense to have equipment subject to derating or downtime from too sensitive of a system. I write software and design equipment, therefore the truck I count on the most has a mechanical diesel. 🤷

emissions is a bit of irritating thing for me, when it involves semi trucks. the KW t800 at my work was in the shop almost every two weeks for an emissions related issue. we had it deleted and we gained horsepower, reduced fuel consumption by about 20 gallons a day, and the truck hasn't been in the shop for anything more than brakes and tires for over a year now
@wishusknight3009
@wishusknight3009 2 года назад
I had some of the emissions junk deleted on my pickup too. Some of it is still in place though. (i couldn't tell you what parts) I dont care to "roll coal" or send billows of black into the sky. I keep my foot out of it, and it seems to burn pretty clean and meet T1 emissions. Hey, I love that there is concern and an effort to help the environment, but I wish there was a better way...
@mikes47jeep
@mikes47jeep 2 года назад
@@wishusknight3009 I also think we should help the environment, what I have a hard time understanding is how burning 20 gallons a day more per truck is somehow better. means you have to pump more oil, refine more oil, transport more fuel they made somewhere in the neighborhood of 250,000 t800's and at 20 gallons a day fuel savings a day it 5,000,000 gallons A DAY now its just a rough figure but imagine if all the trucks in the US were that much more fuel efficient, wouldn't that make a bigger environmental impact than a little exhaust smoke?
@wishusknight3009
@wishusknight3009 2 года назад
@@mikes47jeep Well, from what I understand, burning more fuel to ensure that all the fuel is burned is going to result in gas emissions that are less harmful and can be dealt with by other means. Trees can convert those gasses to oxygen easier IIRC. If that outweighs the refinement and transportation of the fuel then it may be worth it. Those 250000 trucks are a lot of extra smoke. I am no scientist and certainly don't know how to run the numbers or anything. And for sure there is some profit motive involved. I am just trying to make a credible counter argument. I agree with you there is some crap about the whole thing that i have a hard time adding up. Which is why I wished there was a better way. Some sort of cheap magic battery that held enough charge to power a transport truck across the country while only taking a few hours to charge with some solar panels... And would last for decades and could be disposed of with no environmental risk... One can only dream i guess.

As far as DEF goes, I can only comment on the trucking side as that’s all I’m familiar with. The DEF and SCR system in general isn’t really the issue. It’s the DPF and Regen system that causes the problems. DEF actually does create a much cleaner exhaust as the chemical reaction happens. The DPF system being an actual filter that gets clogged is the big problem and is apparently unneeded going off of tests from overseas. A few years ago there was even rumors of going to an SCR system alone and eliminating the DPF system.

I'm a test driver for a lift truck company. I completely agree about DPF and Regen. In my opinion it is ridiculous to have to park for 30 - 45 minutes while it cleans the system. I feel sorry for those who need to get things done, but can't. I guess I'm lucky that I'm only testing and not in any sort of production. Sidenote; I don't know about anyone else, but I can't even leave the truck unattended. As soon as I exit the truck, it shuts down and I have to start all over again. I learned that the hard way. 😋

Zack, your dad is so calm, and like most farmers of his generation, full of wisdom. My dad is the same way, although he's 84 years old now and getting frail, but I thank God for all he's taught me through my life. Cherish him while you can. Blessings from Ohio! PS. I love the Make Fertilizer Affordable Again shirt..just right for him!

It’s nice to find out that your dad is as nice and even tempered as he appears. I’ve always admired how calm he seemed in stressful situations. I’m sure the storm has added a lot of stress so I hope everyone can deal with ok.

LOL! So glad you and your dad are “normal” farmers…miscommunication!!🤣 Yeah…we’re rock picking too in Kansas! We are done planting except where we are chopping rye silage. Thanks for sharing Zach! We hope for 5,000 subscribers…can’t even imagine 1M!!! Blessings to you from Kansas!

I bought a big skiddy that takes DEF, with about a 190 hours on it, its had a new scr injector, new def tank, they reprogrammed it twice and now its using the entire tank of def every 20-25 hours...so definitely something wrong again. But hey, it's good for our lungs for some reason.

I remember once when Zach forgot to order fuel and you guys ran out in the evening. You didnt film much of that and your face afterwords really gave it away. I fight with my dad too sometimes, its the way it goes.

If my Dad had a dollar for every miscommunication he had with me while working on the farm, he would have retired by now. I learned that there are two ways to do things... 1. Dad's way 2. The wrong way

You echoed my exact thoughts. I lost my dad a few years back but that was the way it went whenever we would be on a project. I didn't get to work with him as much in my adult years 19 years plus as I left the area, but growing up I didn't get much of a input into things. LOL.

From one Father to another I'd like to ask if you'd take a second in one of your videos to ask our 8 years old son Lucas to buckle down and get his homework done? We struggle to get him to do his homework and we are big fans of your and your channels. If you would just point out to him how important it is to do his homework it may help influence him to make an effort without getting an attitude. Thank you Zack!

been watching your u tube channel for some time and have yet to tell you that your the luckiest man alive to have such a gentle man for a father that you have. He never seems to get angry and is so calm all the time. Cherish him for as long as you can. When he is no longer around you will miss him emensely. Cherish him.He is a keeper.05/30/2022
