it’s a sad day when the Philippines brings this in if it’s worded like the western countries have it. This terminology “emotional abuse” has caused thousands of men to lose everything. The wife just claims emotional abuse to police with no evidence & they take the kids & then most of what you own. It’s a disgusting process. I really hope they keep the reasons for divorce quite tight & that evidence is required, otherwise you are just going to become a mess like all the western countries are. By the definition in my country any argument you have with your spouse would be classed as “emotional abuse” & if you call the police you are done. I’m praying your country has really thought this through & don’t allow it to be a floodgate for anyone to just divorce for any made up reason.

Why is it amazing, due to the fact that she's recently married, that she is having this discussion with 2 other Filipina, RU-vid creators. This has to be a massive topic of discussion, (if not the hottest topic) right across the Philippines! It's ok to chat about subjects that may not affect you directly at the current time. But it's likely that, the subject of divorce will be relevant to more than one individual that each member of the discussion will know!

What about child support, there are so many single moms in the Philippines. It's almost like don't want the dad in the kids life or make them obligated to support their children. That should be the #1 issue in the Philippines. Divorce is just a option for the mom to move for a different partner legally. You always hear about it being a catholic country but why don't they practice safe sex.

The first answer from Leah already hits hard. I fully understand and agree, that if a man were to physically abuse his wife, there should be a way out for her. However, there have been countless instances here in the west where the wife filed for divorce claiming that she was physically abused by her husband, but in reality the man did nothing wrong. But in our legal system he is the one that needs to prove his innocence, rather than her having to prove that he committed the crime. Since it's very difficult to prove that you didn't do something in your own house, especially if you don't have in-door CCTV cameras, in most cases the man loses the case, the divorce goes through, he lands in jail and loses everything just because of a false accusation. This is one of the big reasons why men are very reluctant to getting married over here, and I fear that over time these things might start happening in PH as well if divorce ends up becoming legal... I think that even without divorce, if she has proof that her husband abused her, she should have the opportunity to go to court and get an annulment without having to pay for it. Only if she has sufficient evidence of course, but it should be an option.

This should definitely be strict guidelines because here in the US divorce is a business for women I am speaking of personal knowledge of women who get married to different men and take half of everything they have. So that needs to be very strict guidelines as to when divorce should be applied and whether or not money should be split

YES! Of course the Philippines needs a divorce law.My girlfriend was abused by her abusive, drug-addict husband whom she married at 19 after becoming pregnant. When she became pregnant with her second child he deserted her. I met her 10 years ago in HK, where she was working to provide a decent life for her kids. We now live in the Philippines. We have a child together - there is only an 11 year age gap. We own property and have a business together. I support her daughter at university. Her loser husband tried to exploit her relationship with me in order to get a payout. I refuse to 'buy' my wife so I am more than happy to go through the ridiculously protracted process of getting an annulment. Nobody, especially children, should endure a toxic family life. The Philippines needs to divulge itself of its antiquated practices, dictated by the Catholic Church, progress and implement a divorce law. There is limited access to contraception and sex-education appears to rely on informing girls, not boys, about the 'withdrawal' method. My first wife, of 12 years, divorced me - by mutual agreement - within 8 months.Easily done. Do we live in a democracy or a theocracy?

In the US 69% percent of divorces are initiated by women. Many foreigner men come to the Philippines because they want to be in a secure loving relationship. They want a traditional woman with traditional values. If the Philippines approves divorce that is taken away. There are many reasons why people get a divorce. For many women it is financially advantageous to divorce. Being divorced myself I would never not wish it on anyone. If women are giving the reason of abuse as a reason. There are other ways to handle that as you pointed out in your video. But keep in mind there is more than one way to abuse someone in a relationship than physical abuse and many would say that mental abuse is much more prevalent than physical abuse. I believe there should be more education on what to look for in a spouse and ways to overcome the pitfalls in relationships.

Well done guys. Food-for-thought, what are your three's thoughts on the abundance of single mothers in the PH who are not married? For example, on the CF dating site, it seems more than 7 out of 10 Filipinas are single mothers.

It saddens me to learn that the Philippines is considering legalizing divorce. It will probably eventually result in no-fault divorce. Probably, a provision prohibiting a divorced person from remarrying would reduce the number unnecessary divorces. In my opinion, legal separation in the case of abuse would be a better solution.

If the Philippines goes through with the proposed divorce law , it must be Fault divorce NOT no-fault divorce. Also , the government needs to stay out of marriages and divorce, let the churches deal with those things…the government is in too much of peoples business as it is

Life happens, while you’re thinking of ways to get around the rules. Divorce should be legit, cause it’s accepted the whole world except for some people who live in denial it’s a solution for the many, who suffer with a marriage, that’s not working anymore. 🙏 My former wife and I are best friends after divorce, and enjoy each other better than husband and wife. She asked for the divorce and I said great, now she is thinking this was a mistake not finding someone better to connect with, as we age on. 👨

It is a law that is long overdue to be passed in the Philippines. The women there deserve a means to get out of a toxic, abusive relationship. Also, to be able to separate from a father that is a deadbeat and not supporting his family or has just run off with another woman.

Perhaps the government could do something about sex education, and to make contraceptives freely and cheaply available, and to promote education to take away any stigma. Abortion on medical grounds should be available, and for rape victims, and adnormalities. They should also be available to all women, not just ones with money., same goes for divorce.

Divorce is a horrible practice. There are cases where you have no choice but it should be approached cautiously. Physical abuse or sexual misconduct can be good reasons. If your spouse is in prison for serious crimes can be a good reason. But before you go for divorce you should take every opportunity to fix the marriage.

How about instead legalizing divorce, you take marriage more seriously. As in, you are really careful in choosing who you marry. I'm not even a christian, but to me if you have the option of divorce, the whole idea behind marriage becomes meaningless.

Nice interview as it showed the full spectrum of opinions. I know from a prior video that Shay is an atheist and her views were consistent with that world view. Maya is a Christian and I'm not sure of the other woman as she was somewhere in between. I was a little surprised that there wasn't any discussion on what the Bible says is right or wrong. Shay said that the church should not have a role in these moral decisions and that one needs to do what's right for oneself. I could see that the lady on the right did give some deference to Shay's point of view. So, here's the thing. As Christians, we can't be so reserved and bashful about never expressing our points of view. Maya did state her personal point of view which was far better than the others. I know she is a very moral person from prior videos. In Filipino culture, people really do not call each other out. That is a concern when bad ideas need to have some light shined on them and exposed for what they are. Maya, as a polite host was not going to do that and I get it. However, a warning to others that if we don't push back, these ideas will continue to gain power and take over. It will bring down our morals and hurt marriages, families, children and society. I don't agree which Shay's lack of morality in her point of view. Guys, this is the type of person to avoid. You can be nice to them but don't trust them with anything.

I follow Shay closely. She has always stated that she is not "very" religious. It's important to distinguish between not being "very" religious and being an atheist, as they are two different things. As Shay has shared, her exposure to neglected and abused women throughout her life has led her to support divorce. She has lived through these experiences, so it's unfair to criticize her based on what she has witnessed. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, shaped by their personal experiences. You are free to express yours, but labeling someone a 'red flag' for having an opinion rooted in their experiences actually makes you the biggest red flag.

The Philippines is the only country in the world that does not have divorce. Vatican City where the Pope lives does not allow divorce. Clearly divorce should be no fault. As a former divorce lawyer in the USA I practiced in a State where there was no fault divorce. I grew up in a State where at that time you had to prove a cause or reason for divorce. All that did was cause pain for the parties. Women file a majority of divorce cases. Our standard is the marriage are irreputable broken you can be divorced. It is not expensive in the USA if the parties agree. Abortion is for the protection of the mother. It is her body. Wake up folks. You guys are so old fashioned.
