You KNOW a match is off the hook when the commentators stop talking. PLEASE keep this match on RU-vid.

I had lost interest in wrestling around 2002 after watching since 1985. Wrestlemania 23 comes to Detroit in 07 and my boy got us tickets. $250, 10 rows from the ring facing the entrance and couldn't see squat. I had been reading about ROH a few weeks prior, but never watched it. So after 23 I get on ebay and bought this event for $7. Having never seen this promotion to that point, I sat and watched every match. Pausing for bathroom breaks, food, etc. The whole event is solid top to bottom. Then this match comes. 30 minutes later I couldn't believe what I had seen. I miss these days of ROH so much. 20 bucks to see a live event no matter where you sat, Cary greeting you as you left the building, and wrestling that commanded Wrestlemania ticket prices. Thank you ROH for helping me find my love for pro wrestling again. Just wish we could have these days back because nothing could touch it.
A match that could literally only be watched and found on either Dailymotion or if you had the DVD just got uploaded for free. Ring of Honor I am forever in your debt.
Literally THE most influential match of the 21st Century. From the smallest indie right up to New Japan, AEW and WWE, the Dragon Gate style permeates every corner of pro wrestling today. Oh yeah, it's also a fantastic match.
Plus with those territories that have been doing some good TV tapings, which does happen in some of those same places that you just mentioned that they can still produce some good numbers and it seems like that's what WWE, AEW, and even New Japan continue to do well since I report for all 3 territories, anyways.
His nickname is Speed Star. He actually is the fastest professional wrestler in the world when it comes to hitting the ropes. He was clocked in at 1.4 seconds hitting the ropes from end to end.
Doi's kickout at 2.999 on that super-rana/splash spot is one of the most insanely well timed kickouts I've ever seen and then there are at least TWO more after that are as perfect. God this match changed the entire game and yet almost no one has really come close to it outside of DG.
I love how it seemed to blow the commentary's mind so much that they were silent for the entire ending stretch lol. One of the most innovative matches ever.
@@beaubiggity8822 I had general admission as I always did, but I was leaning over the barricade at the entrance with my family and a bunch of fans that also opted to stay leaned over
Wow. This might be one of those matches you would want to show to somebody who has never watched pro wrestling before. Great match, and what a blistering pace!
It can go two ways to be honest, either the person who never watched it becomes an instant fan or they think it's absolutely ridiculous how these guys are able to take massive move after massive move and get up like absolutely nothing happened.
I remember first watching this match on Dailymotion about 10 years ago. I had the link saved and before I could download it, it was gone. I'm so glad this is back, this blew most wrestling fans away at the time and most trios or tag matches are like this now. Thank you ROH
The match was only good at getting an emotional response out of the audience. Matches like this do more harm than good because it further conditions fans into believing they need to be 20+ minute "epics" and it all just becomes derivative. And from a kayfabe perspective it makes all of these small guys look weak. They can't put anybody down long enough for a 3 count, despite throwing everything but the kitchen sink. There was plenty of no-selling - especially post-match, further solidifying the talent as weak and ineffectual.
@@brandonphillips8743All of the points I made are as true today as when the match took place. This match only inspired the PWG type of fan - and that's not a good thing.
I remember watching this match before there even was a youtube. We had to go on forums like Wrestle Your Way to access ROH, NJPW, and Dragon Gate matches before they were widely available on the net.
The action was so fast and phenomenally great, that near the end the commentators were like(ahhhh screw it) and they completely gave up, and I don’t blame them😂
Yes, was there live. Chicago never saw anything like that before. Theynqere chanting, "please don't stop " same show had jack Evans do a sasuke special onto the floor and be caught in a styles clash, along w bryan Danielson vs Roderick strong wrestling til 1am
Today's fast paced tag wrestling wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for this match. There's raising the bar and then there's hurling the fucker into space.
Hopefully to see stars from dragongate debut in NJPW and ROH honorclub including shun skywalker and z-brats gold class high-end dragon kid Yamato and kagetora natural vibes challenge for ROH gold including pure tag team world 6 man and world title
For me it was entertaining during my childhood when I didn't know wrestling was scripted lol. After that I just became more interested in promos and stories instead of matches
Came here after reading that voices of wrestling article, and geez what a fuckin match, it was like watching a match at 1.5X speed. But having said that the tag rules were simply stupid and made no sense.
@@a.j.hellraiser8993 they weren't forgotten... Its basically lucha rules. You dont need a tag to come in. They even mentioned it at the beginning of the match
