Yes, in 1978 I saw the film Holocaust and was shocked. In history class we were learning about the Roman Empire at the time. Yes, I didn't know anything specific about WWII, only that Germany lost the war and that's why there are two Germanys. I found the border controls intimidating when we visited our relatives in East Germany. As I got older I had all the history lessons at school that Feli describes. A very uncomfortable topic. I remember 10th grade in school when we were talking the whole year about Holocaust and the Third Reich, mainly in history but also in other subjects. We went to Dachau concentration camp (I am from Munich), saw movies in school and in cinema and visited exhibitions. I felt overwhelmed and finally got tired of all the stuff and yes - I felt guilty.
