Often times, I'm made to feel unwanted from locals from Africa. We didn't have anything to do with the rapes, killing, beaten, producing babies for sale. This 400 year curse was from our ancestors serving other gods and not the true God. But those families who was tortured and abused by "W" resulting in light skinned children get a different treatment from some locals. "Some ask why you want to come here....etc." I wish they would consider and think how our families where killed and torture. My great, great, great, grand parents was taken from Nigeria and Ghana area but a lot of us feel unwanted in the country and fearful to return.
Can I just say as an African American how happy it makes me to see all these beautiful black faces!!! We want to know our history and connect with our people. It is important to know your roots.
@@everettewade923 black is a shade not a Race nor Ethic group...We are “African” - American I was born an American because My African Ancestors built a land that was created on the grounds of equality for our people ...yes through the struggle and torment and toil but Lets not forget the shade from Black to White is still diversified through the scope...historically Africans were not the only group of people who had/have Kingdoms and Empires because of the diversity that was stretched from Continent to Continent..
@@KM-xn5kj I typically don't respond to less intelligent people like yourself. If you're ADOS you are not African. People who moved here recently from Africa are African American. If you are ADOS you are Black. Black due to your slavery past and in honor of your ancestors who struggled to rid themselves of their kidnappers. You are an amazingly uninformed person. Read my friend.
K. Murray Black American lineage derives from the indigenous Black tribes of America and the 380,000 Hebrews imported who were both enslaved in America.
Lebanese have been in West Africa for decades, they didn't need an aid package to invest. If you're serious about investment you need to be prepared to do the work and play the long game, no one is going to insure you against sweat and loss.
Asanma I truly understand your frustration. But at the same time they are the only country backed by their government to welcome back our brothers and sisters that our ancestors helped enslaved. One last thing go back into our Nigeria history and see what we did to the Ghanian people “Ghana most go” I love all African countries. # 1 Africa. We will all get their one day.
Olu Akinwale you are right, but history or no history Ghanians and Nigerians are the same people broken by borders. Let’s love one another. I am going to Ghana 🇬🇭 and I am going to have the best time of my life. Please join me and lets make Africa great again. One Africa. We are powerful united.
Great Vid Virtue Grace! So many people need to see this. I am diaspora African American so Hello from Georgia lol. Many more of us are coming including myself within the year and I'm happy to hear Nigeria and Benin is also expanding on the vision of the 'year of return'. I want to see them get it right just as successfully as Ghana. There is room for even more creative ideas of how this can go and I would personally love to be involved with those who are planning the events and brainstorming what's next. I feel all of West Africa at least should be under the umbrella of 'year of return' on an ongoing basis. Its like putting a great puzzle back together. Africa is beautiful and this will inevitably bring forward a renaissance in African tourism business, trade and culture when we focus our collective energy, put in the work to bring our spending power, Ideas and creativity to revive African culture, cuisine, industry, solar energy, textiles, food, medicine and yes, tourism. That's what I would love to see. Sorry I'm so wordy
Virtue Grace ...I’ve been asking this questions for years; “ Where do an African American proceed to come to Africa when you know no one, no repetitive tourists, no idea where to live for at least two weeks. One week in the city and one week in the village. The first visit should be, exploring the markets, and other businesses of your choice just to get an idea of what it’s like, but who will be our drivers? How much will it coast to eat comfortably, what’s the price of medical emergencies or are there an American bank over there? Lastly, we were told that African’s will charge us more than a usual price for products and produce. A mentor should be great for this.🕯
Good work Virtue Grace, my only problem don't get me wrong i'am Ghanaian by birth love my country, this initiative was started some time ago in a form of Panafest geared towards attracting our brothers and sisters back to the motherland and fortunately this scheme kept growing each year with new ideas. Yes It's true that most of these slaves were taken through the castles and forts dotted around the coastline of Ghana doesn't mean all the slaves were from Ghana, some were also brought from other African countries, Ghana then call Gold Coast was only serving as conduit pipe a hub where our brothers and sisters were shipped from. We shouldn't forget there were some shipment points in some other African countries like Senegal, Angola and even Nigerians, Togo, Uganda and many other African countries have their own slave stories and remains of physical relic's. So what I'm saying is any time Ghana is organizing such a program they should collaborate with other African countries, to at least tell them also if willing to invite our brothers and sisters in the diaspora to come back home to the motherland of Africa
But that's not likely. With the influx of people from the states the prices of everything will go up to resemble that which folks in the states are accustomed to.
Prices inflate to keep up with demand. To keep Ghana citizens from feeling the effects as much price should inflate for visitors only, especially whites.
Keep it coming. This was beautiful initiative by the Ghanaian Government. We are all Africans .We are the people that were enslaved. We are one. There is nothing like us and them. It is a painful past. More of this should be taught as a major curriculum in every African School in the Continent. And every school children should be taken to school trip to these places or shown a concise documentary on these places.
Exactly, as an African school child, I nothing much was really taught me about the slave trade apart from the basics. Being on this platform has really taught and us teaching me a lot about our history.
Virtue Grace ...It was taught in our school curriculum in great depth ...I’m not sure which country you are talking about but we had this taught and visited sites of Arabic slave trade which occurred before the transatlantic one.
Soo true my dear ,I remember we were taught at our tender age in primary schools in Ghana, and trust me, even though we were not matured by then but only God knows how bad and emotional we felt about such stories... So any time I come across any hate comments from such victims I never blame them at all ,though we are all victims...... only the creator knows best
Wow, my heart goes out to Ghanaians. Very positive and loving people. They confirm that the Earth is the Lord’s. They also understand the importance of helping African Americans to heal. All Africans should be like them. People need to understand that no matter how long it takes in a foreign land, your soul will always long to see your origins. Hats off also to the Ghanaian govt for facilitating their return. I’m not from Ghana but I love their vibes. I’d love to visit Ghana and make more friends.
@@Lieu_Tenant_Gambit what is "it's really not discrimination"? Discrimination is discrimination period! And what do u mean by "around their own"? Africa-Americans and blacks any belong to Africa. That's where their roots are. So what are u talking about?
Thanks for the very loving attitude. In my 45 years of living in America, I always cared and loved my African brothers and sisters, I always felt that we in the diaspora was suppose to return to our homeland and prosper with our people. Hopefully one day within the next 5 years my wife and I can sale our home and move home ( Africa). Alot of us over here are well aware that we have never been welcome in America, but much needed here. My body has always been in America, but my heart, mind and soul has always been for my descendants country(Africa). We love you all!!!!!!!!!!❤💚🖤
This can be a very sensitive topic. The bottom line is, if any of the African diaspora wishes to return to any African country, they MUST be able to assimilate & not bring their "baggage" along. African countries have more than their share of problems without foreigners adding extra burden.
You love every one? You dont love black people! Why is your country 500 yrs behind in technology? And please dont tell me about this colony. Whites did that! No. You all dont love black people! You dont even love yourself!
"Ghananians doesn't have problems at all". They dont? Ghana is 500 yrs behind technologically. They dont control the resources, but have no problems! The UN wont even give them a voice in international policy, but they dont have any problems! High unemployment, but no problems!
Grace, Some were from where Nigeria is today also. Are you aware of the 5th President of Liberia? his name was EJ ROYE, he was the son of an IBO slaves taking to America, came back to Liberia as a free man, became the first 100% black president of Liberia in 1870, the ones before him were all mixed, In 1871, the lighter-skinned blacks who were puppets of America had him overthrown, dragged through the streets of Monrovia and murdered. Go and read about him.
This is so refreshing because I see comments on RU-vid of Ghanaians & other Africans speaking negative about is not coming home or had about us in general. Many of us simply want to experience our Motherland. ❤️
Thank you for the interviews, may i suggest a microphone so we can here you when you are outside. PS you are a beautiful sister and a special soul keep up your work.
Ghana don't care about who comes or who don't ghana is Ghana the country has been friendly to everyone since time memorial...the true land of opportunity in this world is Ghana not America. You can disagree with me but I have my fact.
@Black American good point. If you're dead broke, America is probably the place to come up but if you have alot of money to invest like the Chinese, seems like it'll take off quicker in Africa
@Black American tens of thousands die each year literally running and dying to get off the whole continent of Africa. Have you ever wondered why that is, if there is so much opportunity there? Maybe you are the one that didn't get the memo.
I have been very curious of my approach to making my way back home from the USA. Thanks for the video! I am just trying to figure out a starting point after this Covid stuff settle. Thx Again!
deputy dogg ...”they”? Who is they, the Africans? “Like before”....ok well I do understand that. Years ago, it was said that Africans have nothing to do with us Africans American....it’s a bit scary and somewhat unsettling.
As an African born and raised in the motherland. I personally am not against this movement. It's good to see people trying to develop Africa and those who want to come back home. I just hope that we do not lose our African cultural heritage or see natural resources depleted in the future as we try to accommodate more people, there will be more demand than supply of land/resources, the vegetation might be wiped away to accommodate more settlers, our villagers might be destroyed or become westernized. I have seen some people in my country, they do not know how to speak their mother tounge..All the best to those coming home. You guys are more than welcome to your motherland. You belong here!! As long as we live in a sustainable way and not lose our tribal cultural heritage of all African countries. I will be good.
Form the interviews it seems that everyone is fine with the concept of the year of return for those Afrikans born in foreign lands, such as the Americas and the West Indies (Caribbean). There will be several places of interest to visit, and it should be easy to blend in without any problems because of the welcoming and friendly nature. Of course many Caribbeans also came from Nigeria during the Atlantic Slave Trade, so it would be great to meet and interact with our brethren from Afrika.
They r welcome to Africa but only if they can handle it. Tell the Ghana government to have them leave their guns in America. They hav to understand that Africans hav a distinctive culture and they are not coming in to influence with their western mentality. And u can't say everyone is fine with it. I'm fine with it! Do u kno who else is fine with it out there?
@@sunshinecity8273 I was only referring to those who spoke in the interviews as being OK with it and not to the entire population, as some could be opposed to the idea. Of course those who are returning will have to leave any violent behaviour and bad western habits behind so as not to contaminate the fine people of Ghana.
Hi love the channel, thank you so much for this video. As a family of 6 with the desire to relocate to Ghana or Gambia we really want to know want you want from us so we can bring and not "take". If that makes since, we really don't want to open a business we would rather use our Non Profit to do some projects needed. Being in America we don't want to come with American Idea's, we want to come and grow and live.
What matters is you visit first and become familiar with your roots and make the right connections. As you visit more often you’ll find problems to solve and they could be business opportunities for you.
@@Festus714 Thank you from studying our roots we are the Hebrews from the Bible so we will be continuing to grow and serve God and share the love Christ commands. Thank you so much for reaching out to us.
This is a good video. You didn't find *any* people who had a negative opinion about the Year of Return? It's nice that they consider those in the diaspora their brothers and sisters and desire them to come back home. That is a good feeling to see that.
The lady in blue at the beginning of the video should be director at the Ghana Tourism Board. She is a true ambassador. Every Ghanaian citizen should represent their country so well.
Yes yes and yes I want them to come only if they don't try to force us to accept their ways instead of adopting the rich African culture that got them attracted in the first place.
Excuse me but you all have given that to the white, chinese, arabs and anyone else that walk up to your people all the way back to slavery now you have the nerve to say this to fellow black people "HIPOCRIT" THIS IS WHY THIS MOVEMENT IS FAKE!!!!!!!
This is what the first President of Ghana Dr. Kwame Nkrumah said declaring Ghana independence " The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is link up with the total liberation of Africa". If there is African in you we love you but respect the laws of Ghana, keep Ghana peaceful as you met it. You can smoke your wee in your corner but not in public 😂😂😂😂Don't do Ashawo on the street openly
@@ishmealmohammed2041 you still didn't say what Ashawo is. Are you referring to marijuana or could Ashawo include marijuana as well as other things that should not be done on the street?
I’ve made up my mind. After college, when I’m either a RN or an Anesthesiologist; I’m gonna visit Nigeria and Ghana and scope things out because I fully plan on working 3-5 years and saving money so I can get the hell out of America. Taking my financial and cultural capital back to the motherland. I’m tired of being black in America. I just wanna be a person.
To my Ghanaian family Love you much because their is so much to love about you Wealth measured solely in terms of money, rich, you are not. But wealth measured in the things that really matter, you are very rich. So you see, we each have much to contribute to one another. So let's appreciate and celebrate each other. O, and by the way, any blind man can see, that with the added addition of visionary leaders who's Christian faith is real and not just a custom, the modernity and development that you seek is just a matter of time. And to my fellow African Americans, yes when ever we are welcomed into someone's home, we must remember to respect them and their norms All the way from America, God bless you Ghana, in Jesus name.
I am so happy to see that the people, cities, and towns in Ghana are not the third world, war-torn, primitive wilderness that we are lead to believe here in the US. The people seem friendly, vibrant and beautiful, and the streets and establishments in the video look modern and sophisticated. I feel like I could be comfortable visiting and even living in Ghana. Thank you.
This is what I am talking about. "The year of return for our African American brothers and sisters" you need to learn your history and know that the Africans who were taken four hundred years ago weren't all sent to America.
I was taught that USA was the last stop for the slave ships. This tells me that the people who made it here were the STRONGEST. They survived that hell of the middle passage for the longest time. Respect our ancestors.
Fact is...Ghanaians don't understand why an American would want to live in Ghana...So their thinking is that maybe Americans just want to see Ghana, like just being tourists and spend money...America has been portrayed as heaven on earth to Africans on the continent..We are told Americans just love to have fun and it's always partying in America...A little effort over there and you'll become rich...Dont be offended when we see you as the rich cousins ...
Me too. I’m nervous because we’ve been treated so bad for being different here. Even some Nigerian and Ethiopian brothers and sisters in the U.S. don’t like us. Racist to us just like the white folk, but because we’re not African enough. I love ALL my African brothers and sisters, but we’re a very confused people. We need to unite and start clean. We will deal with the past as we build a strong foundation for our new family relationship. All we have is each other. We need to realize that we are all family regardless of tribe, religion, or culture. We are the only true humans. We must rule ourselves and not let the Neanderthals rule us anymore. They want to destroy us and watch us destroy ourselves.
I'm a Jamaican in my country they're African descendants ave their own community, speak their languages. In slavery time we were ship all over the places and forgotten we all of to live, survival is the key .The younger generation we av to teach them about our history ,all of us ave families all over the world regardless we speak different languages but we are one .the great grandchildren's of our ancestors will come together and take over their country that belongs to them peace, and love to all of them.
I am mixed with different African tribes, because of the transatlantic slave tribe in the western hemisphere they lumb all of the tribes together, and didn't separate the tribes on the slave breeding farms. My ancestors did their servitude in South Carolina, and Georgia.
Your first step is to visit. Stay for a week at a nice hotel and you'll be surprised how much you'll learn just speaking to the local hotel guests at the bar! This could be in Accra (Ghana) or Lagos or Abuja in Nigeria. If you want to set up and make really great money, I'd suggest buying a home or land in Lagos, Nigeria. That's where the money's at in Africa.
@@african-history-fountain Ive been to south africa and stayed for 2 weeks. loved it! Its one of the most developed out of all the African countries. I did inquire abt buying land there and doing business. The transition is an easy one for Americans wanting to live or di business in SA. I will visit Accra but Nigeria is mostly poor an overpriced.
Don't just look into Ghana... You are a child of Africa. You are are home anywhere on the continent. Come home!! We Continental Africans know that you are one of us. We dont need anything from you. Just come home and heal.
“My Sankofa" (An early pioneer, 1965 to 1976) DURING THE CULTURAL REVOLUTION of the early 1960’s I became disillusioned with the social and political situation in America and decided to relocate to Africa, and in 1965 I left for Ghana with less than $300 in my pocket and a return ticket, which I later cashed in. After being adopted by an Ashanti-Paramount Chief, Nana kwaku Duah (1966) and given the name “Kojo Acheampong.” I spent the next eleven (11) years living in Ghana, often traveling to Togo and the Ivory Coast to market my jewelry. This makes me feel good as a black American that there is an African country that welcomes us and I’d love to submerge myself into the culture. In the US unfortunately there are sometimes inner conflicts between some black Americans and some Africans especially on the East Coast (silly but true).
I really enjoyed my stay in Ghana 🇬🇭 I got to see old and new family members and met new friends. Each day was a great experience here. Ghana has a great opportunity to one of the greatest country in the world if they want to.
It’s good as long as they are open to the culture and way of living. My family is from Ghana . I was born here and I’ve been a couple of times I love my country and I’m moving when my parents come back.

This started long time. There wasn't no Instagram youtube and other social media. But now people think now they starting 😆 is crazy to hear diffrent stories too from most of this youtubers. See it as continuity. One generation builds upon the good relationship of the previous. Utube is also a good platform to spread the good relationship. So I think we should appreciate the Utubers that shine light on the great relationship. I love Eko Simpson of Ghana Utube Channel Episode on Tourism and Ghana. And his highlights on the Year of the Return Initiative.
