I got my grandson every weekend from the time he was 8 months old then when his mother had a friend move in with her who lost custody of her three kids because of abuse I refused to drop the child off to her friend until she was home. So I was told that I would no longer be aloud to see my grandson. Thousands of dollars later and just before we got to court I was given my weekends back with my grandson because she knew if the courts ruled in favour of visitation she would lose control. But it turned out for the best I get my grandson every weekend again and I love you it he’s 6 years old I wouldn’t give up another minute of it. Nothing worse than a spiteful full exdaughter-in-law.

Is there any advice that I can get because my mom’s mother in law wants me to switch places for chiropractor medicine and I do not want to. My physical therapist said I am of age and my mom’s mother in law has no legal rights to me.

My ex inlaws, my daughter's step great-grandparents, had been paid to babysit my daughter while I worked, and they demanded the pay. The fallout happened when I was getting therapy and they found out that their step grandson wasn't at all a good person before he took his life. They bought the gun that killed him. So they essentially hate me, and then when I got my own home, they petitioned for visitation (as the step great-grandparents) even though they never provided anything to my daughter other than daycare (which were compensated anyways). I am not treated as a family member, its just a business as well as my daughter. But they just want to strong-arm and control my life (and my daughter) and have threatened to "take custody". Unfortunately for them, they have made false CPS reports, 10-12 false wellness checks via police, and have harassed me endlessly. I had agreed via mediation to allow them visitation, but since that has happened, I have been harassed and bullied nonstop. I don't even think they qualify as they are not biologically related. They seem to be struggling in their own grief and are still stuck in denial. I fear that this isn't good for me or my daughter, and I already had a restraining order approved. They are just messed up people who are too toxic to even be allowed to raise children. Its NOT in my daughters best interest to visit them. I petitioned to change the order and even to terminate the visitation rights. I hope that it can be possible to terminate.

Parents have a constitutional right to make decisions for their children. This means that if you have a mere agreement, you can decide to end it. There could be penalties if you agreed to the penalties ahead of time. If you have a court order, however, you will need to go through the courts to change or terminate it

The falling out one. They are incredibly tocix and causing me emotional stress my sont whole life but I tried. I finally had enough. They are my exes parents. They are threatening me with attorney fees
@pacificnorthwestfamilylaw9061
Fortunately for you fit parents have the ultimate say in how children are raised. Grandparents have a heavy burden to show that the children need them to be involved.

My 23 year old brother just passed away he has a 7 month old son. Our grandparents raised us so technically they are great grandparents to his son but like I said they raised us and they are young for great grandparents. They are considering taking my brother's girlfriend to court for grandparent rights because she bails regularly and doesn't let us have him without her there. We have never put him in any danger and we love them both but she is making it hard and she doesn't want to work with us. Do mine and my brothers grandparents actually have Rights?

If you don’t mind me asking, why is it a problem if mom is present when visiting the child?
@pacificnorthwestfamilylaw9061
If the child is in danger, there may be other options to explore. But only parents have rights to raise their children. So you must explore alternatives through the court to establish any legal power over the child.

Can I get them if their abused?

maybe, i would go to the police, CPS and get a family law attorney. But be very careful, grandparents rights or even grandparents gaining custody is very difficult.

Do they have custody of your child if not then you would be able to get that child back if it’s your child

There are many potential solutions. The law says that parents have a constitutional right to raise their children as long you as you are a fit parent. Keeping children from their parents without a court order or legal authority may constitute abduction in many states (it does in Washington).

No. To the extent the law disagrees it is wrong and should be defied.

You forgetting a division. My daughter died and her husband is not including me.
@pacificnorthwestfamilylaw9061
Unfortunately, grandparents take a second seat to parents. Your best approach is to grow your relationship with the child's father so that you can still maintain contact. The state of the law does not favor grandparents right now.
