Age 50, what a blessing! I’m 56, athletic yet still sore most mornings. Every time I feel a little whiny about my aging, I think of friends that are no longer here and didn’t have the pleasure of “growing old”. Constant and never ending improvement! Absolutely love your channel!
Love the new series. I want to see everything from practice to chiropractor to tournaments. It would be great to just experience it with you from the highs to the lows. A mix of video length would be great!
The longer the videos, the better! Matt I love all of your content as a new golfer/RU-vid lover. It’s a good mix of the clog lifestyle I love seeing and learning about golf.
Love the fact you are chasing your dream and bringing us along, I want to see your growing pains and then the ahh ha moment when it all comes together, keep up the hard work and achieve your dream!!!
Regardless of the outcome the journey will change your life either way, maybe you succeed and maybe you won’t, it’s the journey not the destination! If you qualify for a event I’ll fly over there and show some support! Always wanted to go to the states anyways! Sending support from Australia
Props for putting yourself out there. It is not easy to go public with a big challenge that you know you may not succeed in. Have no idea if it will help you but one thing I have learned through my time of trying to challenge myself is that Discipline is greater than Motivation!!! Motivation will fail you when things get tuff. Discipline will allow you to dig deeper. Good luck!!!
Love podcast and regular channel. The way you talk(not being boring), and if course your teaching technique is what drew me to and keeps on your channel. Great stuff.
I would love to see you start playing some competitive matches where you put your swing under pressure whether it’s a money game or a mini tour event. I like that your changes are minimal because that seems doable. So for content, less range, more matches! You did a good job explaining how good you have to be to compete by saying you need to play at a +5. That’s what it takes! Good luck.
Would be nice to see you practicing different types of shot shapes and what you are doing to improve the control of the ball. Being able to stand behind the ball and be confident you can produce a certain shape (curve left right low high etc) must be so comforting on some of the hardest courses in the world and all the sticky situations you can find yourself in.
Glad you recovered from your 1st practice session, Matt. My vote is: Short Videos, Like to see all the Drills you are implementing (I love how you practice putting, chipping and your bunker game). Keep grinding, brother!
If you don’t try you’ll regret it. I’m 62 and there’s things I wish I would have done that now I have serious regret. As far as your practice find what’s comfortable for you. Don’t get worn out on practice. Your a excellent golfer to begin with. As far as me being a scratch golfer that’s a good one
You are living "our" dream brother. Just committing to this goal is a win already. The guys on TV say it all the time, patience and belief. This is the hardest freaking game in the WORLD. Proud of ya!!
Your so right about that bit of encouragement from a teacher or coach. I can't stand it when instructors try to draw an uncrossable line between you and "pros". Pros started somewhere too.
Sooooo excited about this process and to see you succeed. I, for one, am interested in seeing all of it; the good, the bad and the ugly. My preference is for longer videos. I just seem to enjoy more of MSG in my life.
Great stuff Mat I need a chiropractor I’m 67 of all the golf tubers you are the Most honest and the best I’m sure you Will do it we are all gunning for you To represent us I keep trying to get one of your hats But always out of stock Amazon uk
I am sure you are more fit than A LOT of the senior tour guys. Only thing I think you might need to work on is the endurance to mentally make it through 18 holes. Your game is there but to step into each and every shot, especially after a bad shot, and stay focused and committed to the shot will be the challenge. I know you got this and can definitely understand what you need to do.
Male, age 80, golfer since age 14, 10 handicap from the seniors teen's, lowest score this year 76. Northern golfer. I just love your latest series. I wish you all the luck in the world in your quest to achieve our card. Would love to see video of your Journey, but don't let the process of filming disrupt your concentration, in the moment decision making. Looking forward to seeing on the TV. The 18th hole, last pairing, six footer for a birdie to win. Good luck!!!
Show everything! Video length around 10 minutes plus is always good. Great to be along for this ride. Always wondered what it would take to qualify for something like this and what leads to even getting in a qualifier. Thanks for sharing
Seeing you work on your swing changes is great because it showcases that it is not easy and there is no magical method that everyone can do instantly. It takes work. One thing I would like to see once you're dialed in is the planning and prep for a course. We all hear that having a plan is key but we rarely see it in action beyond "this is the plan for the current shot". Course management is a huge part of the mental game and trusting/committing/executing on that plan is tough. Example: your plan says hit a 4 iron off the tee and have the safe longer approach in, but your little devil on your shoulder says, "smoke the driver, you've carried 290 before..." I think it would be interesting to hear your plan for a hole and then see you execute that plan.
I'm curious about your golf background. I think I heard you mention you played college level. What is the furthest you tried to take your game when younger.
Man, I have that same issue on crossing the line at the top. I have tried all sorts of stuff to fix it. I even tried changing my posture but probably just didn't spend enough time with it. Going pro is something I thought about doing back in the day. I was getting pretty decent in my late teens, early 20's and then chose to chase something else. I wish I had the skills/money to do what you're doing now. We are the same age too!
Really excited to see your journey. Seeing how you invest your time to improve would be great content. Most of us dont have 4-6 hours a day, but we could consolidate that down to fill our own pratice time. Good luck!
Matt like I said before listen to your coach. Stay positive. I use to watch Scott Parel here around Augusta in all the Amateur events. He worked his butt off and now look at him on the Champions Tour. You can do it.
Your a great golfer man! You can totally do it and who cares what others or nay sayers may say. You had the courage to put yourself out there to take on this challenge when the majority of the world would never do it/this. Good luck!
One thing I think that would be interesting is as you make progress in a specific area that you are working on, make a video comparing older video to newer video highlighting the specific things that you've improved/worked on.
Not sure I could be so regimented about a schedule. Life has to many fluid factors that alter things. The short game practice will pay off. 100 yards in.
Tell us: what in your bag (your D, Wds, H, Irs, Ws, n P). Also share what shafts n grips you are using and ball you like to play. How often you use your simulator. What is the at home putting practice mat you have.
I just want to see you talk to the camera about golf and various aspects of the game. Time should be at least 10 min up to 30 min. You can show some short game clips of you playing as well. Thanks.
I'd like to see you play 4/5 holes, then try again same holes but with no driver, play like your games off!!! so protecting your plays. Get a score grinding it out...
Watch a RU-vid video of Magills big 3. You won’t need to see your chiropractor again after a month. I would also like to see you practice without earphones. Learn to focus without them. Look forward to watching this entire journey Matt
This is a great series. I believe that 4 to 6 hours a day practice alone will get you to a plus handicap. Add good instruction and your natural talent and you will win a senior tour event.
Matt is probably a +4 right now. Needs to be +8 to be a "stick". A +8 can go to a hard course 74 rated and shoot 66 once in five tries. Matt can shoot 70 once in five easily.
I love your channel. I started watching going into this golf season because I had been away from the game for a few years and needed help getting my swing back. Your positivity and simple approach are the main reasons why I watch EVERY video you release. This new series is really interesting and it’s fantastic. But here’s what I think, you seem like your forcing yourself to do it. I completely believe you can do it! I know you know that too, but you should enjoy the process. You’re making a huge swing change, slow your swing down and find the center of the face. The speed will come back as you get more comfortable. I can’t wait to see your progress!
You could have easily played in the first LIV event. With your of level of play you would have beaten 75% of the field! (and yes I looked at the scoring in London) Love this challenge and believe you can do this! Go Matt!!!
PGA Players walk onto a Muni and shoot 64 on a bad day. You have to ask yourself if that is you. They not only have the skills to shoot 64 in a friendly, but can shoot 65 when there is $3,000 on the line and 66 when Johnny Miller is telling the world that you get stuck at times and your chipping needs work. Also, play your swing.
Matt, I think it would be so cool for you to do a podcast episode about allllll the etiquette rules. I know you do the "cheating" episodes, but I think it would be cool to see the more well known etiquette rules and maybe some Tour Pro rules that you will need to know and would be cool for us to know also! That could be a series video or a juicy long video Love the content. Keep grinding, that swing will come around. Head up! :)
Here’s the REAL deal, that nobody has touched on! Go to a course that has the Monday Qualifier for a PGA Tour or Champions Tour, go to the back tees, if you play 2 days and average 64-66, you have a small chance in the actual qualifier. And NO, not everyone can get to scratch. Most don’t have the mental capacity to deal with the highs and lows of the game! My club hosts Korn Ferry 2nd Stage, my old club just hosted the Champions Tour Final stage, won by Rob Labritz, who just finished 4th at the US Senior Open.
I would like to see more videos of you playing rounds with scores etc. Practice videos will get boring quickly, and I would think you should be playing 18 everyday anyway. I love everything about golf but particularly like to watch every shot in a round.
Matt There is nothing harder then trying something different. Realize your new at tournament golf. Realize there are no mulligans. That being said, all you can do is try and relax, play inside your self. Of All the no pro Golfers on RU-vid you have The best swing The best putting The best attitude The best self humor Does this mean your going to succeed, he'll no. But it does mean you have a great chance. Go out have fun, enjoy the drama and the stress that comes with it. I raced pro- motocross in the early 80's and I can tell you it's scary, it's stressful to line up next to factory riders. Once the gate dropped it just became just another race. Yep I got my butt handed to me almost every week. But in the end I made some life long friends, I grew as a person, and bottom line, I had the time of my life. No one can take this from you, so go take on the world. Best of luck👍😎 We are all behind you and pulling for your success.
I mean anyone can do it, but the road for golf is soooo hard since it's hyper competitive. Still, I wish you the best of luck and work hard. Let's see you get there 💕 from 🇦🇺
If you practice Mon-Fri, then maybe you can do vids on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. In those videos you can mention how Tuesday and Thursday went. I can appreciate full practice videos and full tournament videos of each shot to show how your round goes. I just watched the 2nd practice going pro video. Growing pains! It's all part of it, but makes you better. Gotta have hard days. Need to have intention spent with your time on and off the course. Quantity is not quality. Each shot you are hitting needs to have intention, not just mindlessly hitting over and over. These are all just my opinions of course and every one has there own way of doing things, just my two cents! I'm for you and think you can do it and it would be awesome if you were able to make an event close to Dallas. I would come out and support!
First, good for you and I wish you well. Second, you should hire someone to do the video, editing, ect. I really want you to accomplish your golf goals.
So, he loves LIV golf but his dream is to play on the “PGA Champions” Tour? When the Saudi’s start buying content creators will he be first in line, lol?
