When I took my bike in for service and a new set of tires I got the opportunity to test ride the 1250 GS, This was the very first time for me testing the 1250 and it felt like a really big and heavy bike but also surprisingly well balanced and easy to handle in low speed.

The first proper review of a bike I have seen on RU-vid. Good mix of road surfaces sensible speeds and realistic riding. Thank you.

It is nice to see a ride and review of a bike ridden the way you did. Watching reviews of want to be racers riding wheelies and sliding tires and shifting just short of red line do people like me who keep bikes for years no good. I like to hear the engine and see how they run at low speed in stop and go towns as well as how they do on faster roads. Thank you.

Thanks, nice to hear. I know what you mean. That type of testing says very little to me also. I don’t have the knowledge to ride a bike like that so that’s something I look for if buying a bike. It’s more interesting to hear other people with the same skill level as myself. Then things like service intervals, service cost, insurance cost and fuel consumption is interesting, but that’s a lot of work for a test ride video 🤔

Hi! The thing with the position of the sidestand is interesting. I have a 750GS for nearly two years now (and love it) after riding a Suzuki Bandit 600 for 26 years and I'm still struggling with the sidestand😂 It's too far in the back to me. My left foot is always "searching" more in the front...😉 My friend is heading for a big GS, so your comparison / impression is pretty welcome. Thank you!😊

Glad that you stopped by on my channel 🤩 Maybe the sidestand is far back in the 750, I’m used with that so it was a little hard on the 1250 GS. And maybe also my vertically challenged legs added a little to that equation 😂 In a upcoming video I’m testing the Yamaha XSR900, I know it’s a totally different type of bike, but there’s an explanation to that in the video. On that bike it’s the opposite around you could say. My leg get stuck in the foot peg every time I’m putting the side stand down. And it’s also a little hard to shift gear with the Sidi Adventure boots 😂

Enjoyed the video , Joones. The GS is a huge heavy bike. I like the Moto Guzzi V85TT. RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!

Thank you, yea it’s to tall and heavy for my taste even though it felt really well balanced and nimble as long as it moves 🤩 The Guzzi looks really great, they are not common around here, I have only seen one in real life 🤩

Having test ridden the 1250, 1200, 850gsa, and the 750, I still to this day prefer the 750gs, for both on road and off road, off road now that I have upgraded my suspension and the wheels, the 750 is so undervalued in the GS line up, but it has the identical 850 engine with a little less power sitting at 77bhp which can be unlocked to its full potential if wanted, but not really needed, the front wheel of 19 inch is absolutely phenomenal on the road, and she just turns with ease, off road if you are a bit more experienced then the 19 doesn't make much difference over the 21 to be fair, but I am coming from a motocross background in my youth. I am hoping the Mansell Collection here has the 1300gs on test soon, so I can have a crack on that bike, my mate Greg Mansell just sold his 1250gs and has bought the 1300gs now, but again, his experience off road is up there with some of the best, and he has taken his 1250gs on the TET in some really rough conditions, and he hill climbed that thing up Bouley Bay. Horses for causes, I am not even tempted at selling my 750gs at the moment, as nothing comes close to its perfection and performance and its dynamics, she is a unicorn which definitely isn't given enough praise or push by dealerships and the manufacturer.

I still haven’t tested the 850GS and now I hope to be able to test the 900 as well as the 1300🤩. I know that Carlbarks the dealer where I bought my bike has a shipped a couple of 1300 down to Fuengirola in Spain for their events. Hopefully they will have some one left for test riding. I have upgraded the front suspension on my bike to hyperpro with progressive springs and heavier oil I think 🤔 I haven’t ridden the bike so much afterwards, only on tarmac so I don’t noticed a very big difference yet. I’m really interesting in the spoked wheels as well. Buy those different bike I have tested I like my 750 best so it might be worth to invest in them in the future 🤩

@JoonesAdventuresMC I'm seriously looking forward to testing the 900gs, they don't have one in Mansells yet so haven't seen it up close, but supposedly this bike has been specifically designed for off road.

Yes a fantastic bike. Really well balanced. I really like the low centre of gravity and how nimble it feels in low speed manoeuvre. It’s a little to tall and big for my taste though but definitely a great bike 🤩

That a Mothership Jonas! Had a 1200GSA for many years and loved it for travels and as well for local funrides. The front suspension is wonderful on curvy asphalt, not so fun on wet trails or offroad. The 19" front wheel makes difference as well, not ideal for gravel but for twisty backroads. My sfsrti it's career as a Alp turer with Bibbi onbthe pillion. But it really got it's fair share of grusbus! I had a 690 Enduro ar the same time and that took over the riding time I had. More fun for what i did locally and as well on many travels. I want to try the 1390 though just for fun.

They are really nice, but big and heavy. I really like the lower centre of gravity, it really felt nimble in low speed manoeuvre but I felt a bit insecure when stopping the bike due to the height and weight of the bike. The road leaned to the left where I stoped and it was really heavy to get it off the side stand. It was really nice to be back on the 750GS after the test ride😊

After riding this bike all of a sudden your 750 feels light as a feather when takinh it off the kickstand 😊
@JoonesAdventuresMC
@JoonesAdventuresMC 6 месяцев назад
Yes definitely easier to take off the kickstand. And also to handle on parking lots. It’s narrower lighter lower and I’m not that afraid to drop it as to drop the 1250 😂

I haven't ridden the 1250 .I have a 2013 1200GS with factory low chassis ,and have the low seat . I cope fairly well,being 5'6' ,but have to be careful on lean angle parking .I rarely fill the tank right up ,and in comparison ,the 1250 weighs about 10kg more than my 1200 . They are easy to ride,but the weight can be an issue for an older guy like me, especially when moving it around .I love the telelever front suspension .I can see tho why you like your F750GS..nice bike ..

I’m about the same height as you. 29” inseam, the lower version would suit me better. They are really nice bike, well balanced and comfortable. But I felt so much comfortable on my 750 which actually also is a little on the heavier side 😊

Interesting test ride . How was the screen on the motorway? Did you get much wind buffeting? Your audio set up seemed to cope well with the higher speed, anyway. :-)
@JoonesAdventuresMC
@JoonesAdventuresMC 7 месяцев назад
Thanks 🙏 Yes my audio use to cope well, it’s the cheapest microphone I could find, it costed 29kr on Biltema, sadly they doesn’t sell them anymore. The 1250 is a fantastic bike and I couldn’t notice any buffeting. But I always ride with earplugs in. There was a “oing” sound or how to explain it, it sounded like wind noise from the windshield, but it was hard to locate the sound exactly. It wasn’t a very loud noice but I noticed it so it was definitely something that could heard. I didn’t tried to adjust the windshield so I can’t say if it’s something that can be fixed easily. 🤔

I think the F1250GS has a slighrly shortet wheel base and steeper rake than the 750 which is a bit more traily in dimensions. I have a 750 and i struggle slightly with it feeling top heavy - both ar slow control (very little margin of error) and even on bends - does anyone know what difference upgrading the suspension might make?
@JoonesAdventuresMC
@JoonesAdventuresMC 3 месяца назад
Yes I believe that’s correct. I have done a upgraded in suspension on my 750, I hade oil leak in my right front fork so I hade them to change to progressive springs and heavier oil. but I don’t ride it very technical and haven’t compared it side by side with a standard suspension, but I know people that have done the same upgrade saying that it’s a big difference.

You can change the height of the seat by changing position of those pieces. you can either have it in heigh or low position in the front or back or both. so it’s also possible to lean the seat backwards or forwards 😊

So you have 2 bikes or you was just doing a test ride to see if you like it? I think it is too big and heavy for you as it would be for me too having short legs. I keep the air out of my rear shocks on my goldwing so I can almost put my feet flat on the ground. The problem with having short legs. Thanks so much. Great review. 🙂
@JoonesAdventuresMC
@JoonesAdventuresMC 7 месяцев назад
No I was only test riding it while I waited for my bike to be ready. Yes that bike feels to tall for me. I don’t say that short legged people shouldn’t ride 1250. But for my taste the combination of weight and height felt uncomfortable. The lowered version would probably fit me better.
@JohnSmith-uy7sv
@JohnSmith-uy7sv 7 месяцев назад
@@JoonesAdventuresMC Yes, I think us 3, you me and Runa have the same inseam in our pants length. Mine is 29 inches, whatever that translates to that you use. I always had problems of standing on 1 leg/foot on my motorcycles. Don't know how or if it could work to put on a smaller tire rim to lower it front and rear. And I have shrunk 2 inches in the past 10 years or so at 67 years old. Next I will have to custom fabricate cut my frame down for a midget. 😂 a low rider motorcycle from a car.
@JoonesAdventuresMC
@JoonesAdventuresMC 7 месяцев назад
@@JohnSmith-uy7sv I guess it can be something that you can be used of, to put down one foot instead of both. But when riding on uneven ground it can be nice to be able to use both feet. Especially if you have to move the bike backwards. With a lower bike you can sit on the bike and move it with your legs and with a taller bike you have to get of the bike and lead it. 🤔
@JohnSmith-uy7sv
@JohnSmith-uy7sv 7 месяцев назад
@@JoonesAdventuresMC Exactly. I have to watch how I park my 1500 goldwing with no reverse to make sure I am parking flat or up hill slightly so I can coast backwards or push back with both feet on my toes. I know, we can all get the boot lifts to raise our height. I have heard about them but don't know how they work. Or have a built up sole on your riding boots like Herman Munster. I saw a japanese girl rider who had lifts or built up sole. Good thing to google. Boot lifts. 🙂
@JoonesAdventuresMC
@JoonesAdventuresMC 7 месяцев назад
I can almost flat foot my bike completely. It’s not necessary to be able to do that, but with a heavier bike I guess it’s more important. I haven’t dropped my bike due to the height yet, I have dropped it for other reasons 😂 And yes we tends to get shorter over time, we grow like the tail on the cow, downwards 🤔 But mostly I believe that it’s the spine that compresses and not so much in the legs so you will probably be able to keep riding your bike for a lot of years 👍
