Today we discuss all the ins and outs of Roll Cages in NHRA Drag Racing. We show how things must be fabricated and welded to meet the specifications for various trap speeds and elapsed times. T-Shirts: www.paccracing.com/store
My philosophy has always been to build the most cage you can afford..you may be running elevens in the car today, but down the road you might want to raise your aspirations and lower your bank balance...er, lower your ET. It's a lot easier to build "too much" cage while the car is a blank slate than it is to add "just enough" after it's been completed..besides, a full cage adds substantial stiffness to the chassis...and is there really such a thing as "too much" cage when the unthinkable happens and you find yourself barrel rolling down a retaining wall? 😯
I currently run 8.0 index...in the 8th lol. I put in a cage (jegster 8) because my girlfriend swears were doing 190 leaving the grocery store and I paid 260 for the cage, SHE then bought me 1200$ belts because I "needed" them. She feels safe, and ill be set in the future if my s10 ever gets the 6.2 in my shed (currently still inside my totalled vette). But ONE DAY..and in the meantime, everyone leaves my little stroker alone and I look ridiculous..I'm OK with it
Great video! I'm sure somebody will ask about bolt-in vs weld-in. I've seen bolt-in units that were NHRA legal for 10.0, but not for 8.5 or faster. Not that you would want a bolt-in 8.5 cage...
I’m wondering why NHRA hasn’t allowed a containment seat to be used in place of a funny car cage. I feel that the containment seat will probably the same safety as a funny car cage when going down the track but also be safer for the driver and passenger when driving the car on a public road
I have a convertible not able to do under 14s yet but plan on eventually. I know 13.49 is where you have to start using a roll cage but which type do you need ? I see 4 point 6 8 10 but I can't find which you need.
just a reminder 2014 and newer are allowed to run up to 9.00 or 150mph with out a roll cage , and the 2008-2013 can run up to 10.00 or 135mph with out one
I just race for fun on open track days/test days. The 11.5 et is coming up and I’m considering getting the truck cert for 10.0. Now I looked through the rule book and it seems there’s quite a bit I need to do. if I’m just “practicing” at the track do I really need all the safety stuff or would just a cage be enough?
