I ADORE a woman with a "masculine" face. They are so incredibly beautiful!! Never feel self- conscious about that. You're so damn gorgeous, unique and special! Not just for your face but your personality and unique energy, talents and the gifts you bring to this world are something no one else can bring to this world! 💕

Whether a bold lip would suit you depends on the visual weight of your face. If your face has higher visual weight or you have more blunt facial structure and features, it'll work to support your face. I have these features and I look sickly with nude lipstick.

There was a powerful word you missed. Androgynous. It feels subversive, but it is what makes beauty striking and edgy. Soft, safe, and blurred doesn't have the same impact. Androgny might be what your face is missing to create a more striking image.

No, I can't say I agree. Feminine all the way! But either a bolder or a softer style can still look entirely feminine. I like to think of the contrast between women's hair, makeup, and fashion in the 1940s versus the 1950s. The former bolder style was a response to military and austerity circumstances demanding greater practicality, while the latter softer style was a response to a time of prosperity, peace, and more leisure, allowing for more luxuries. But both styles look unmistakably feminine!

Can you cover the JAW? I see science stating it as #1 indicator of facial attractiveness and how beautiful celebrities have different jaw shapes and prominence and what to do makeup-wise in this aspect (contouring, balancing features, etc). Thank you!! ❤️
@stylerefinement
@stylerefinement Год назад
I'll add it to my topics list! I do think that prominence in the jawline is very subjective depending on culture - I grew up in a culture where a strong jawline is considered highly undesirable, so I think it really depends on the perspective as well ❤
@SchlichteToven
@SchlichteToven 11 месяцев назад
The media is constantly putting forward the idea that ONE single feature makes people attractive or is the most important feature in attractiveness. I've heard it said about the distance of your eyebrow from your eyelid crease, the distance of your philtrum (regular human length is no longer desirable - it should be as short a distance as possible, like a child's), the distance between your eyes, the size of your nose, whether you have "resting b*tch face," the clearness of your skin - anything and everything. Jawline perfection "science" is a new one to me though - I can't believe they managed to find a body part that hasn't been dissected already!

Oh I love these videos, they are so interesting. Especially what you explained about Dua's eyebrow arches being hidden behind hair vs. visible was really eye-opening! (I'll see myself out) I have strange face that I can't analyze. I would love to wear bolder eye makeup more often, but I feel like it looks "off" and I can't explain why. A video about eyes or faces that are better off without a smokey eye would be awesome! Without makeup, I look very plain, sometimes ill, often like a child. I have very light skin, dark circles, big dark green eyes and eyebrows and eyelashes that blend in seamlessly to my face, lol. I have relatively full lips, but they don't have much color. So without makeup there's really not much going on. However when I put on my everyday makeup, I look like a different person. I have thick eyebrows so doing them makes a huge difference, as does mascara and curling my lashes because they are long and thick, although invisible in their natural state. In addition I wear a neutral eyeshadow, a thin brown eyeliner, foundation to even out my skin, heavy-duty concealer for the dark circles, bronzer and blush to bring out the dimensions on my face and a natural lip color. The difference after this 20 min routine is drastic and for a sexier look, adding a little extra attention to my eyebrows, lashes, bronzer/blush and lips will make an even bigger difference, better than I think I can achieve with a smokey eye. In a way it's strange, because my eyes are my best feature, but without makeup they don't look special and with dark heavy eyeshadow they look off. But with something in the middle they stand out and I can't figure out why the middle road is by far the best result.

Smokey eyes look pretty bad on me. My best glam eye look is a couple coats of black mascara (to add curl and definition, *not* to look clumpy, the thick "doll lashes" look bad on me too) and some winged liner. Maybe a little champagne or rose eye shadow. That is enough to brighten up my eyes and give them the drama i need! Anything too dark or blended however, instantly weighs my face down. I think being a Bright Spring is one reason i need brightness and definition rather than darkness and too much blending. I also have large, rounder eyes with loads of lid space, but my eyes are also deep set with prominent natural shadows, which are accentuated when i wear dark and heavy eye makeup.

I've been compared to Dua Lipa in the past, except I can't handle that much heavy makeup. I have thick big large lips, and a perfectly balanced top and lower third, besides, I'm pretty tall and thin with big booty. These are my sexy traits, but I have too much cuteness on my face: big and rounded slightly hooded eyes, big cheeks even tho my face is oval, a very soft jawline, naturally straight eyebrows and not arched, and a small and rounded nose. What I try to do to give myself some masculinity without it being too unatural is to make my eyebrows much more full and dark, contour to make my cheeks look narrower and focus the makeup on the lips. With black eyeliner I look dragged down or swallowen even though I'm a dark winter, and ultimately, I find some sparkle in my eyelids looking the best than a Maddie from Euphoria look.

My eyes "disappear" behind strong glasses, and bolder eye makeup brings them out nicely. I prefer wearing glasses instead of contact lenses. I tried contacts a few times and didn't like how I looked at all. I try to find ways to work around it if/when I feel like wearing makeup. I can put on very over-the-top eye makeup (that looks *so* extra on its own) but when I put my glasses on, the overall look ends up quite balanced.

So I find that the reason I suit bold eye makeup looks is quite similar to Dua Lipa's. Because I also have the textbook almond eyes that everyone mistakenly attributes to an Asian ancestor that I don't have. But actually are very similar to my dad's when he was younger. And surprise surprise he's southern Italian not Asian. I also have small eyes and thin-ish brows. They stand out because they're really dark. As my hair is naturally a deep brown. Aside from that I also wear glasses. Astigmatic lenses to be exact. Which are known to make the eyes appear smaller as I was told at least. I remember for example wearing contacts one day. And I had this stunning orange/mustard and magenta look on. My mom said it was too much and I'd get negative attention from it. I came home feeling extremely self conscious. Guess what I did later? I took out the contacts and threw on my glasses and bam! The eye makeup got severely less intense and didn't stand out as much. Almost as if I blended most of it away. What's so funny about this is after learning how to do a quick and easy liner I feel naked without eyeliner. I don't drag it across my eye but only do my inner corner and my wing to about a third of my eye. Or else it closes it too much. And my mom recently commented on one of my eyelooks saying it was pretty but really bland. It wasn't my style or me at all. "Because I'm used to seeing you with colourful eyemakeup. And this doesn't look like you at all!" funny how the tables have turned.

I feel like my nose and eyes draw more attention. So I emphasize my eyes with some bold looks but not overly done; more so of a douyin meets soft grunge look. My nose almost has an illusion effect; from the front it's elongated, soft, and slightly narrow. But from the side it looks more masculine because of my straight high nose bridge. I hardly ever contour my nose because I feel like it doesnt need it but I use bronzer and or blush on the top of my nose to make it appear smaller from the side. Are there other ways to draw attention away from the nose.?
@stylerefinement

@joannalowe3121

I agree with most of what you say except the terminology. Personally, I think referring to those features of hers as yang dominant rather than masculine would be a better way. I also think Dua's no makeup, or "no-makeup makeup looks" are among the more "feminine looking" Looks for her. It's the bold and glam looks that are hit or miss. They either make her shine in a glamorous way, or make her resemble a drag queen. And I can't tell what exactly in the makeup makes the difference
@stylerefinement
@stylerefinement Год назад
Thanks for the suggestion! Yin/Yang makes sense :) I noticed sometimes she adds even MORE to her already thick brows which I don't think is necessary, and I think it might be what's contributing to the more "drag queen" looks you mentioned!

@ang5798
@ang5798 Год назад
@@Moonlitoblivion222 the reason I'm against it is that those women will grow resentful because their female features aren't "feminine", and that can be avoided by introducing the yin/yang into our understanding.
@Moonlitoblivion222
@Moonlitoblivion222 Год назад
@@ang5798 How, by marketing it differently? Yang is another term for masculine in essence, but ( in the states at least) more ppl are unaware of that at first listen. I think videos like this are a fabulous way to have others accept themselves as they are through example. Feminine features don’t necessarily equate to beauty. All the women shown here are naturally gorgeous, but become even more so with additions. I think if anything it highlights the fact that masculine features are not synonymous with looking like a man. Appreciate your sentiment though!! No hate :))
@ang5798
@ang5798 Год назад
@@Moonlitoblivion222 not really. Yang doesn't equal masculine, and yin doesn't equal feminine. That's the point. They aren't interchangeable, but other people using it in such a way made you think that they are. And you're not the only one fooled by the wrong use of those words I agree that there is nothing wrong with women having yang features, or men having yin features for that matter. I also don't think that using masculine *should* make women insecure. Unfortunately, it's still not exactly the right term, and I just think in a few year's time it would benefit everyone in this area of interest to learn about yin/yang instead :)

Dua Lipa has prominent/protruding eyes (similar to Kourtney Kardashian's only hers are almond shaped). Cara Delevingne on the other hand has deep set eyes (similar to Camerom Diaz and Mila Kunis) which gives her eyebrows more space to perform and make themselves noticeble. Meaning they go slighly more forward and thus bring more attention to them. It has to do with the bone structure around the eyes
@stylerefinement
@stylerefinement Год назад
I think you mean Dua Lipa has deep-set eyes and Cara Delevigne has protruding eyes??
@zarinaadi04
@zarinaadi04 Год назад
@@stylerefinement no, not at all. When the bone that is between the eyelids and eyebrow is visible and goes forward and the eyeball sits deep and "touches" your eye bone it is considered deep set. Some other examples would be Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Nina Dobrev, Keira knightley, and Emma Watson. A lot of makeup artists consider that before applying makeup by looking at the profile but if you have an eye for detail you will see it from any angle.

I watched both videos but I’m still confused: my nose is kinda fat at the bottom and it is short, my lips are small (narrow and a bit thin), my eyes do not draw much attention naturally and they are kinda hooded. I got that I should wear more eye makeup and I totally agree my nose really draws a lot of attention, so that means I should wear a softer lip color? because my lips are already small and wearing a softer color makes them a bit smaller, but I also find bolder colors to be awful since it makes my nose more notable.

A lot of things you are categorizing as "masculine" are not sexually dimorphic, but rather they are traits of very good craniofacial development. The most attractive people in terms of basic objective physiology have more in common with their facial features (sharp jaws, compact orbits and prominent cheekbones) than they do separate, regardless of gender.
@viviantoblerone
@viviantoblerone Год назад
She's actually right, but beauty standards and objective beauty favours features that are BOTH masculine and feminine. Its interesting how women with really good facial development will also have masculine/straight shaped bodies (like dua, margot robbie, etc) and women with really feminine body types often don't have strong facial bones (like doja cat).

You're right - these are not sexually dimorphic characteristics, but I think that attractiveness is subjective and can depend on culture! I grew up in a culture where sharp jawline and prominent cheekbones are highly undesirable. Regardless, the way I am categorizing as "masculine" features are not what is more / less desirable, but rather what is more commonly found in male faces (like thick & straight brows for example!)

I’d like to see comparisons of the face size, bone structure or head size. I think there is a lot to be said about that. I’ve noticed that people who have larger heads or carry weight in their face tend to be more conscious of their weight. My theory is that you see your face in the mirror and pictures far more often than you see a full length body shot, and as such, you may or may not realize weight gain as quickly from the onset. Therefore if you don’t see the excess weight gain in your face you are much less likely to notice when you gain weigh. Height, head size, and long vs short limbs is fascinating to me.

Interesting ideas for sure! Never thought about it that way but now that you mention it - I'm totally guilty of this (weight gain is quite noticeable on my face)!
