I've been debating getting a pressure pot for a long time, this video answers the question as to whether I need one or not! I wood turned a bowl out of Bog Oak and Pau Amerelo and put 24ct Gold Leaf in the rim
Hi Richard. That bowl is so nice. You answered my question about pressure pots thank you. Amazing job and the gilding just sets it off. Love the contrast of the woods you used. Great explanation of how to make the channel in the rim. Thank you. Cheers 🇦🇺
Hey John, you should see some the exotic woods and things I went and got this weekend! Along with a large blank of Tufnol (Google it) That’s gonna be an interesting turn! With a sharpening count like I did in a previous video.
@@WoodWithD the tufnol looks like Bakelite can’t wait to see what you do with it. Looking forward to seeing the videos with the exotic wood. One question is all that you make for Customers or for you. It would be hard to part with some of them. Like the car for example. Cheers
@@johnswettenham4560 yes, particularly the car is going be hard to part with! But I get to enjoy the pieces during the making and before they are sold 😁 I just enjoy the making and actually prefer them to sell, as it shows others appreciation when they’re willing to part with their money for something little old me made 😁😁😁😁
I have to be honest with you. This piece is amazing. From start to finish, very enjoyable. Excellent video, commentary and inspiration. I will be stealing this idea. Thank you mate
To say you started this piece as an experiment it turned out incredible, beautiful! I enjoyed the detailed explanation of how to cut the 'U' rim too, I have wondered for a while how to ensure its even. Excellent work.
Astonishingly beautiful, Dick! My oh my, that yellow wood ( can’t pronounce it neither). It is smashing. Many thanks for sharing your technique to make the U. Still a lot of practise needed to come up without tool marks. In addition, the pressure pot question has surfaced at my side as well and yeah, whenever it comes to significant deep cracks and holes, it might become handy or a necessity. Cheers, Frank
Hey Frank! Thank you sir. Don’t worry about tool finish! Sandpaper takes care of most any tool marks, it’s shape that’s important and enjoyment of what you’re doing 😁😁😁
That is a stunning bowl, the colours and gilding compliment each other really well. Thank you for the detailed description of turning the U in the rim as well
Very nice. Popped into see what the pressure was required for, stayed to the end. Nice work indeed. Video nicely paced I thought. And useful but non distracting commentary.. Not a task every RU-vidr achieves 👍🏻😎
The gilding really finished it off beautifully, wow. Such a beautiful little bowl considering it was only an experiment. Thank you for your informative information about cutting the U shape out. Now all I need is space for a lathe 🤣….I don’t think so so how but living next to the woods there’s always off cuts laying around.
Wow, that yellow got so bright after you added sanding sealer. -----------luv it. And of course not to dismiss the big oak (which is my favorite), thanks to you. My Compliments! 👀👀Lookin' good.
It’s a seriously yellow wood! Got a friend making me 2 pens out of it as we speak. Pen turning isn’t in my wheelhouse. But looking forward to them coming back.
Very nice piece. This just demonstrates that it’s really not about collecting tools. They sometimes help but nothing can replace the tenacity of someone who knows what they’re trying to accomplish.
Loving your RU-vid name TheMonkdad! Thank you very much for your very kind words 😊 Sorry it’s been a while posting new vids, been working on several recently and all are currently works in progress 😞 Might get a new one out before Christmas 🎄 😁
Hey Billy, not much of a tour available to show really, it’s only a converted single car garage, with all my tools and kit squeezed in with the messed moved as much as possible each time I wanna film something 🤣🤣🤣
Nice job I have not done resin so I don't see the imperfections I really love the guiding it really sets off the yellow piece of wood and finishes the piece
Thank you Glen! 😊 It was a nice little bowl with interesting pieces of wood 😁👍 I hope you enjoy some other videos and I look forward to more comments 👍👍👍
I've used crushed charcoal mixed with two part epoxy glue to fill larger cracks. it works great and matches well with really dark woods or spalted woods. Also coffee grinds and CA glue for smaller cracks and brown woods (or spalted).
Yer, this whole piece was a bit of trial and error really, pretty much like all pieces I make. It turned out okayish in the end. But not one of my personal favourites. This is by far my favourite: Ghost Turning a MASSIVE Burr - JUST fits my Lathe! - Ghia - piece number 809 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O5h5H7_uVpg.html
🤣🤣🤣👍 it took me a while to work out what to make, but something had to be done as both woods are precious and rare, I was just lucky that they fitted nicely together 😁😁😁
Long time no contacts mate, did you see my latest piece! The biggest thing I’ve ever made out off turned stuff?: Woodturning many spikes into wall hanging art ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MV3VJtE7aG4.html
Another cracking video my friend, I did suggest you needed one, but that bowl is just gorgeous. How do you decide on the the rim being small or large, I believe this was the correct choice in this instance but I’m intrigued what are the factors that make your decision? I also love the way you explain how to avoid ‘catches’ not everyone explains that.👌🏻
Thank you Raymond! The wood normally tells me if the rim wants to be large or small or double or slanted or different. The larger the wood the more option. On this occasion I was avoiding the crack off of the centre. It’s challenging advising on catches, this was just showing the way I do it on just the rim. Tool presentation is key to all of it! But no one is perfect and I bet even the pro pro pro’s get the occasional catch! But won’t always admit it 😜🤣🤣🤣
No, burn pile meaning bin, sorry, just an expression. The remainder and the resin soaked wood and shavings from any pieces I do with resin go to landfill. 👍
It’s not so much the money as it is the space it’ll take up with the compressor. And if I were to get one, I wouldn’t want a small one that would limit what I could do 😞 Think I’ll limp on without for now 😁
