Do I Really Need to Trace my Patterns Every Time? | How to Trace your Sewing Pattern 

I like to fuse interfacing to the wrong side of my garment patterns. That way I can trace many times. Thank you for great tutorial. Very helpful.

In Switzerland, plain white tissue paper rolls in sheets 70 x 50 cm meant to wrap gifts inside a box are sold next to wrapping paper and are very cheap and just transparent enough to trace.

I hate PDF patterns but maybe if I trace them I will hate them less. As my shape changes it is obviously better not to cut the original pattern. Thank you ... this was very helpful!

I have been using magnets to hold down my patterns for well over a decade. If you want a temporary board that you can store away, or use upright as a design board, I recommend buying a cheap magnetic whiteboard. I use a 90x180cm board. The metal sheet is mounted on a lightweight backing board so it is easy to lift and store against the wall when not in use. I use bright red neodimium skittle magnets, as I find these easy to hold and see. The board is larger than my table but is strong enough to allow me to use a rotary cutter. Magnetic tool holders screwed under a shelf above my sewing machine let me store scissors, tweezers and an unpicker within easy reach. After many different options over the years I have found that the Flexisoft sit stand E7 desk is the best option for my table base as it adjusts from 58-123cm high. I wanted it to start very low as my serger is ergonomically too high at a normal table height.It can be fitted with your own table top 120-200cm long, 60-80cm wide, the centre bar slides to adjust the length so you can pick your own size. I use it at 3 different heights: highest for cutting, sitting height for sewing and slightly lower for my serger. You can adjust the height to wheel over storage units.Wheels come as an added option, so the table can be pushed to one side when not in use. I liked the desk so much that I bought a second one to use as an office desk, dining table and temporary kitchen island. I draw and cut out pdf patterns using a Silhouette Cameo 4 Pro cutting machine, as it has a 60cm square cutting mat, minimises the amount of taping required. A cheap second hand Cameo could be used, as all these machines can cut A3 paper on the appropriate sized cutting mat. I only trace patterns I know I will use multiple times.

Great for those of us who are different sizes in different parts of the body! I have been using Pelion (whatever was on hand) for years to make patterns, from favorite clothing or adapting commercial patterns. Your process is clearly presented, so I look forward to more vlogs…

I buy the medical table paper. Wide, easy to trace, folds well since it is still thin and fairly inexpensive, I used to use the pellon pattern tracing material, but I find I get more on the roll of medical paper.

I buy a roll of soft durable wallpaper, not a really thick grade or self-pasted types, with a nice design on it and trace the patterns onto that. It's very durable and long lasting. Stop curling by lightly ironing it. The rolls are pretty wide (normal width is 52cms) and of course quite long so you can fit most pattern pieces on it (join two strips easily with double-sided tape if needed). You can buy a roll for as little as £10.00, especially in a sale bin. There's plenty of room on the backside for pattern markings and notes for future reference.

Great video. I'll be looking for the Pellon for tracing. I sew for a couple friends who are not my size so tracing works great so I can size up my smaller patterns for them.

I add fusible interfacing to my pattern pieces. Than I make paper version on patterns I use more often.

I use making tape and carefully tape my pattern to my biggest window and then trace unto the Pellon. My window acts as a lightbox.

Just looked at how much the Pellon cost…£63 for 10 yards!

After paying $10 to $20+ for a pattern and then the pattern tracing paper, I'm not saving much ......
